6:36 Just a quick note, when you moved the second set down to create depth, you should've moved it upward. The perspective dictates that you wouldn't be able to see the top portion of the window frame since we're looking down on the building.
I didn’t even expect a video like this to exist. I am a big fan of both spider verse movies, and I really wanted to draw backgrounds in the spider verse style. Thank you so much
Omg thank you so much for this! I had a huge commission that i wantted to do in the spiderverse style, this saved me lmfao. Thankfully i was somewhat on the right path already with what i was doing
pro tip: If you dont like pressing ctrl+j everytime, you can (while you're on move tool) press alt+(any directional key or move with mouse) to duplicate stuff.
Thank you so much! With the release of Across the Spider-verse, I’m revisiting character building and was struggling with how I should start with cityscape concepts, this helped me loads! Thank you!
As a former architect cityscapes are usually very stressful to me, as my brain goes into overdrive for quite a few minutes for everything to be not only esthetically but also structurally absolutely perfect. Which of course is not the goal in a digital world. And it makes me extra happy when I have managed to shut this habit off quickly, to simplify it and bring it to life on the screen. :) Thanks for the video, it is very informative :)
I definitely relate to that! There's a feeling of needing to capture all details perfectly, and for the most part you do - but as you mentioned there's so much wiggle room between abstraction and representation ^^ and that's the best part imo
I dont know how to thank you but I'm definitely going to send you one of my finished work as a token of appreciation for this video. Newbie but after watching this, the designs I have come up with are stunning. Thanks again.
This is an amazing breakdown of how to incorporate the spider-verse style, after seeing the two movies i was very much inspired to draw it with the same style and you helped alot! One subscriber for you❤
God this is going to be extremely helpful as I am planning to work on my spidersona and want to do backgrounds for her and just do backgrounds in general. Thank you!!
Hey! I just started digital drawing and am trying to learn what I can. Spiderverse’s style has always been fascinating to me and I was thrilled to find this tutorial. I tried it as we go and just WOW! Thank you so much!!
Omg this video is such a life saver!! This was honestly the best tutorial ever, now I can finally use the spiderverse style with my work for my schools art project!!
Dude this is a well done video I just learn a lot of new things to add to my skills that I didn't even think about doing to speed up my work flow thanks for that.
i wonder if its possible to do it in clip studio paint, nice tutorial thank you!real nice to see buildings and backgrounds be focused more on the environment and the expression rather than being a hyper realistically drawn background
I am terrible at city scapes and this really help simplify the process. When you were working you had a layer for perspective, I was curious how you went about making that grid? Thank you so much and subscribing for more!
Last time i made this for Lunar New Year, one of my building was bad at geometry perspective. I'm quite proud for making such as visual of skyscrape, so i wanna watch this video if i make more powerful at skill like this
Relatable. Though, with traditional, you have the "winging it" leeway if you don't like using rulers (i am definitely speaking from experience lol) or you can just generally simplify what you aim to draw.
Could you make one with close up windows? And tips and tricks on coloring them in night and daylight? And how to pick the right color for building blocks? Pretty plz?
@@DanielAngArt oh oh and 5 basic building shape, (like not just square ones, but like some has triangle head or something like that? I'm sorry if I'm asking so much (〒﹏〒) )
I learned this method in Japan. Technically, this is the illustrator version way of doing it. Japanese people learn to do the fastest method. But I don't like this because it's not panting.
When it comes to painting the building. Do you have any recommendations on brushes I can make or ones I can download. Because I’m not sure how to make my buildings look more interesting instead if giving them flat colours.
I hate doing backgrounds but love having an environment, so hopefully this will help I use procreate, but i think i can still take some stuff away from this. Mainly, work smarter, not harder
It depends on the kind of building, some are fairly simple with a water tower or air conditioner units. I like to add satellite dishes and small fencing, but you could even do a small garden and chairs etc. 😊
6:36 Just a quick note, when you moved the second set down to create depth, you should've moved it upward. The perspective dictates that you wouldn't be able to see the top portion of the window frame since we're looking down on the building.
Great catch, Will!
I think it works regardless, because the black areas look like shadows cast onto the window by the frame.
It's more of trying to force u into the habit of doing things right rather than just it looking more or less right as well.
I didn’t even expect a video like this to exist. I am a big fan of both spider verse movies, and I really wanted to draw backgrounds in the spider verse style. Thank you so much
It's been 17 years I work in the animation industry, and always something to learn ^^ thx
Omg thank you so much for this! I had a huge commission that i wantted to do in the spiderverse style, this saved me lmfao. Thankfully i was somewhat on the right path already with what i was doing
Glad it could help out, all the best for your commission!
I applied this to a traditional piece I was doing with pencil and paper, and it still helped a ton, thank you!
I love how you break it down. U inspired me to do everything layer by layer so that its not that overwhelming. Thank you
pro tip: If you dont like pressing ctrl+j everytime, you can (while you're on move tool) press alt+(any directional key or move with mouse) to duplicate stuff.
Thank you so much! With the release of Across the Spider-verse, I’m revisiting character building and was struggling with how I should start with cityscape concepts, this helped me loads! Thank you!
You're welcome, glad you liked the video! I'll eventually be doing an analysis of Across the Spider-verse too, what a film :)

I am terrible at city scapes and this really help simplify the process. When you were working you had a layer for perspective, I was curious how you went about making that grid? Thank you so much and subscribing for more!
Thank you! For the grid, I used an add-on for Photoshop named Perspective Tools v2 :)
Last time i made this for Lunar New Year, one of my building was bad at geometry perspective.
I'm quite proud for making such as visual of skyscrape, so i wanna watch this video if i make more powerful at skill like this

thx so much
First "how to paint buildings" tutorial that's ACTUALLY helped me. Thank you!
very nice and beautiful video
1st of all THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!! very helpful
maybe the best program for this is Illustrator? idk I see everything is very polygonal!
Glad you enjoyed it! Illustrator would be great in this kind of style considering how many hard shapes there are
Great 👍
Very helpful thanks
Very useful, keep the spirit of making other videos.
you deserve more subs.

New sub, excelente content bro, greetings from Mexico
Awesome video! Is there a way to make sure all the windows are spaced equally like this in procreate? Or is this only a Photoshop feature? Thanks!
this made me subscribe!
I'm pretty sure you don't have to raster the windows if you are using a clipmask already. Anyway great video !
When it comes to painting the building. Do you have any recommendations on brushes I can make or ones I can download. Because I’m not sure how to make my buildings look more interesting instead if giving them flat colours.
I would recommend Yuhki Demer's brush pack on Gumroad, there's a lot of cool building shapes and textures he uses!
Me following along to this tutorial while using PS on my iPad: 👩🏾💻
I hate doing backgrounds but love having an environment, so hopefully this will help
I use procreate, but i think i can still take some stuff away from this. Mainly, work smarter, not harder
Gotta find a way of do that on krita...
Thanks for the video! Do you have a link to download the custom shapes pack?
Litty 👌
i'm applying this method to a piece i'm working on right now, do you have any tips on what to paint on rooftops?
It depends on the kind of building, some are fairly simple with a water tower or air conditioner units. I like to add satellite dishes and small fencing, but you could even do a small garden and chairs etc. 😊
The most difficult task is to create night scapes.
Where's the blender video for the city
