There are default names that car buyers turn to in any sector of the car market. Clio and Corsa make safe supermini bets. Focus and Golf always command respect from family hatch buyers. Fortunes shift and names change as new cars are launched but buyers know that if they stick to the mainstream's big hitters, they can't go too far wrong. Nissan's X-Trial was one of the main go-to cars for the UK's compact 4x4 buyers for a long time. This second generation version retained the mix of abilities that proved popular in the original and its robust construction should make it a rewarding used buy.
    History
Around the early years of the 21st Century, it seemed that everyone wanted to drive a 4x4 and the car manufacturers were not about to disappoint them. Brands that already had a depth of 4x4 knowhow gained a head start and Nissan, which has a better pedigree than most when it comes to off-road vehicles, was one of the major beneficiaries. The original X-Trail, launched in 2001, won critical acclaim and big sales in the burgeoning compact 4x4 market but by the time this second generation version arrived, the competition had grown fiercer. There were more options available to consumers, many of them designed specifically for road use, and conquering a similar share of the market wasn't going to be easy.

They should have rustproofed them underneath. Hard to get one now that is not showing corrosion, shining on top but below well that's another story.

I had my X-Trail T31 be imported from a warmer climate where there were no salted roads. So while I do have some rust it's minimal compared to what it'd otherwise be and I've rustproofed everything. I think I'll do a hard coat underneath after this winter as well. The worst thing about rust is to leave it untreated and let it rot as much as it wants.

@@jamesmason8944 Will do. It's the last Nissan I'll own looking at the current Nissan market. New X-Trails are worse and new Navaras have gotten worse, too. I'll start with Toyota lineup whenever I need to replace my X-Trail.

That is nice and to the point. However, I do have a question... What is the length from the front seats to the rear door? Like can one person lie down straight with the back row seats folded with some modification? I was considering this for camping.

Yes you can sleep inside like in a bed if you have 1.70 to 1.75 height, if you put the front seats foward you can get more space... but no need in my case and i have 1.70

I'm 180 and can sleep in it with an extendable camperbox like Kata camperbox extended right up to the back of the front seats. I do drive with the front seats fairly close to the dash

The car is good but Nissan like they did mistake when the same engine MR20 DE in Nissan Dualis they put in this Xtrail T31 while this car has a big body and it is weighter than Nissan Dualis, for this reason they should have produced MR 20 engine with CC2500 and put in this car, unlike this one has CC 1990, and is sometimes underpowered especilly if you carry 5 people and luggages at the boot, when climbing hills is lacking some power like struggling to climb, and on highway it sometimes makes whinning noise. CVT is a bad gearbox in this car because the CVT normally overheats and lead to transmission slipping and going to limp mode, This normally happens when you travell long journey like 300km to 400 km.

good friend, I have a 2009 xtrail t31, the engine it has is the QR25 2.5L. I've had it for 12 years and no problems with the transmission yet, as you say, I don't think you know much about this vehicle, yes its CVT are delicate but with good maintenance there will be no problems

The T30 was better than the rav 4 and beat it in numerous tests, as seen in a number of videos here on UA-cam
