    "Dedicate your heart" - hearing Levi say that for the first time was on another level. The whole final moment between him and Hanji were. You can see in Levi's eyes when he realizes Hanji's end has come. He can't do anything to stop them, it's inevitable. I don't think any moment in this show has made me cry as much as Hange's sacrifice did. Seeing Hange be so excited, having the same wonder towards Titans once again, giving everyone a chance by killing the Colossals and being the person we once knew before season 4 already made me misty eyed, but Levi's final conversation and words to Hange were the final blow. Hearing him say the motto of the Scouts for the first time and saying "So long", like he expects to see Hange again completely ruined me. Seeing Erwin, Moblit and the others again certainly didn't help. What a perfect sendoff to such a beloved character.

    Eren has only ever fought for freedom for himself and his friends. He thinks he’s achieved that. But if he took control of his friends’ titans he’d also be taking their freedom of choice.

    The freedom scene is so incredible because on the surface, it's what's Eren has always wanted, true and undeniable freedom, but it's actually a tragedy. The freedom Eren desires is nothing more than a childish dream, and Eren knows that, reverting back to his childhood self and hiding in the clouds that are actually steam from the Colossals, and can't even make himself look at the freedom that comes at the cost of millions. Eren never would have been happy at whatever the situation beyond the wall would've been, because he was disappointed it wasn't his dream of endless and vast space for him to explore. It's the core of Eren and what makes him such a tragic character.

      @@Marta-uv4id I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree, but I think it’s obvious that the reason he was disappointed with humanity outside the walls was because they actively contributed and supported the extermination of everyone within the walls not that humanity exists at all. Maybe you could argue that Eren would have been pissed if the outside world had the means to save the island but chose not to, but that’s not what happened so we will never know. At the end of the day (in my opinion) Eren’s tragic flaw is that the freedom he seeks beyond the wall is the source of his oppression and the only way he can deal with it is by destroying the very thing he sought to obtain.

    I think it's very intentional that one of the last times we saw Floch before the big battle, he was watching the Rumbling and ending people in front of Jean while calling it freedom with a smile on his face. He sees the blood and carnage as the end of it all. The beauty of the destruction that will end their fighting. Then the next time we see Eren, he also is staring at the blood of innocents but he only sees the beauty in the clouds above. He also says freedom with a smile on his face. They both saw the carnage before them as something neccessary for the freedom they yearned for. Especially considering that Eren made him his right hand man and wanted him to survive.
    Little sad side note: I do find it unfortunate that Ramzi spent the last episode of part 2 being really close to Eren(likely to try and cheer him up after seeing him so sad), only for it to end the way it did

    • @chatterycasque9594
      @chatterycasque9594 6 місяців тому +1

      One big difference between them
      Eren never saw it as freedom, so he tries to maintain his childlike awe and wonder by looking like his kid age, going back to the days of him and Armin dreaming about the outside world, all while moving forward with the locked path set before him.
      Floch lost his naivety when he survived at Shiganshina, and never bothered coping with the cruelty of this world: he instead went with the flow and used that cruelty to secure a future for his home, becoming a monster in order to protect the people he loved.

    I always find the scene with Eren apologising to Ramzi so interesting. Not only getting some insight to how he's been truly feeling all this time but also a glimpse into his reasonings. At a certain point we all pieced together that he's been doing this for his people, his friends.. but the part that really hits (and the sub's phrasing of it was a little bit more succinct imo) was Eren admitting that he was also doing this because he'd 'never been so let down' and "wanted to wipe everything away'. I feel like in this admission, it's showing quite a realistic side of being human. Not just the "heroic" 'I'll sacrifice everything for my friends' or his fighting for freedom but the simpleness of being so disappointed by the dream/expectation he had of the outside world that he just wanted it all to disappear.

    With Eren it's almost like ignorance was bliss, his ignorance of youth was his happiest. Even though he hated being stuck within the walls his dreams of the outside were so much better than what he found hence his little monologue to Ramsi saying how he was disappointed with what he found outside because there wasn't his freedom, just more people with hatred towards him and rules that were not in his favour and are built to take his freedom away.
    I think the sub had a better moment with his view of the rumbling turning to the open sky in the sub he says something along the lines of "we finally made it the view of the outside" with the rumblings aftermath as the depiction of his view. So Eren would have always done this regardless of his age or how much he knew of the ppl outside the walls it's just who he's always been.
    The irony of Eren the one who sought out freedom the most never really having any freedom at all, he was forever bound to be that person, to do the thing he would do as if it was set in stone.

    I think it is perfectly understandable, after everthing theyve been through, with all the new enemies and suffering they'd endured, that they would not have the energy to waste on hating another victim of the cycle of hate. Annie is just as messed up and hurt and was just as much pushed into her position as the others. She is the embodiment of those who are too tired to fight, and the others respect that. It's an extremely important kind of humanity that is displayed at what seems to be the end of the world.
    Why waste the energy? Gonna force her? She's not going to be in it at all, instead if she wishes to no longer suffer, why force that on her? That exact Humanity is what is necessary to build a world without the suffering and forced pain of the world they are used to, I think.
    Also yes, the commander was introspecting and thinking out loud, confessing that all of this pain and death is directly at his and his peers' hands. He acknowledges the wrongs he's done and swears "so god help me" that they will be better. They've already reconciled their hatred. (I also really like the mention of hatred that was all pretend to feel better, to feel saved, a lot of hatred comes from fear after all) He is speaking genuinely in that moment to those few remaining survivors around him, exclaiming that if they even survive, the only acceptable choice will be: to be better
    Another note: I think the wish to explore and see the world is presented as the metaphor for beauty in humanity and being able to explore the world at the frontier, no matter what, always very inspiring I think. And Armin of course being the purest representative of not wishing any of this, but wishing to see the world. Eren and Armin are two sides of a coin in a way, Eren wants to be free, rightfully so, but got lost in the endless suffering and cycles of lack of freedom. He learned that he could never be truly free unless he made the awful decisions he made, and lock himself in his head.
    He's stuck in his head and denying the world and wishing for it all to just end, that's the only way he can be free.
    Armin did not have this same burden but he shared the same wish to be able to see the world... I could speak for hours about the themes of this story, it is so incredibly inspiring, motivating and meaningful to me.

    I don't know if someone already said this but I think the reason Annie felt so defeated at first was because her whole reason for fighting alongside the stop-eren-squad was to save her father but then she thought he was dead after learning liberio had already been trampled by the time they all managed to get on the boat (during the montage of horrifying destruction at 15:16 that was annie's house I believe). Then later on, she found a new reason to fight and live for again - Armin.

    The reason there's no loophole is very simple. Eren says it: he WANTED this. It wasn't fate. It was his choice.
    In the beginning that's Eren receiving memories of the future after he CHOSE to do it.
    He said basically: "the world wasn't how I pictured it, I was disappointed, I wanted to wipe it all away".
    Yes, he's justified in his trauma, but ultimately he's just an immature genocidal edgelord.

Him, the strongest soldier, his whole life being a battleground where the only consistent thing was his strength. He survived because of his strength, he was brought above ground because of it, he was respected because of it.
    Here it's powerful because it sounds like comfort. Like his promise to all these soldiers, like he’s saying aloud this promise to all those who died in Shiganshina. I love both versions

    I think Eren defines freedom as being free of constraints. The ultimate freedom is a world with out walls, prejudice, and hate. To Eren, the world as it exists is a cage "If we crossed the sea, and we killed our enemies, would we finally be free?" It's also why he hasn't constrained the will/abilities of his friends. Because he wants them to be free.
    Also given Eren's control via the founder, I legit think his goal is to flatten the world then eliminate the ability/curse that makes Eldians turn into Titans. Why didnt Zeke or Eren just do that right off the bat? Cause the prejudice and hatred of the Eldian people would never fade, even with the elimination of titans. Eldians would still be viewed with hatred and paranoia by the world until every Eldian was eventually wiped out.

    If they just show a little bit in the anime that Annie is pretty much the most capable out of the three (Reiner, Bertholdt, and her) and doing all the work from the start because she just simply want to go home. And now she's just tired of the conflict.

    The exchange between Reiner and Eren kinda goes back to what Bertholdt said regarding the dude who hung himself. He wanted someone to "Judge" him. It was aimed at Reiner at the time, but now shows that it was aimed at Eren as well. I guess they really were the same.

    Armin has shown hints at interest in Annie through the 1st season.
    Like the fact he noticed Annie wasn't wearing her own gear when she helped kill Marco; He was watching her the entire time. Not because he was suspicious about her but he had an interest in her.
    And how insistent he was on helping "talk through this" when everyone found out she was the Female Titan, during the plan to capture her; He only chooses the "talk no jutsu" option when it comes to his friends or ppl he has an interest in.
    When Eren lied to Mikasa that her blood forced her to protect him; He also lied tht Armin's feelings for Annie were Bertholdts.

    • @jjc5871
      @jjc5871 9 місяців тому +3

      That’s not interest in Annie.
      He said he helped Marco with his ODM gear on multiple occasions so he recognized that the gear was his. Just shows he’s observant, and that was shown on multiple occasions.
      And all he ever wants to do is talk. He wanted to talk to Reiner and Bertholdt as well, doesn’t mean he had feelings for them.
      The only logical explanation for him feeling anything for Annie is because of Bertholdt and what he had felt for her.

    • @Daigon95
      @Daigon95 9 місяців тому +6

      @@jjc5871 Yes he said he helped Marco with his gear, but he was paying attention to Annie.
      Otherwise he wouldn't have noticed the gear to begin with. (Also im not going to take a statement of "Oh he just so happened to start checking everyone's gear or was looking around") Being "observant" also does back-up my statement of his interest in Annie.
      and yes bc he valued Reiner and Bertholdt. Ur turning my statement into a blanket one about romantic love, when it also included familial/friendship kind of love.
      The series has never once shown tht inheriting a shifters powers will influence ur personality (Only ur decision making based on wht memories hav shown); Only ones tht did was the Founder bc its obvious why with tht titan and Eren's was due to his own ability and the Founder's.
      I'm open for u to convince me otherwise on wht I originally stated. But so far you havent given me anything yet.

      @@Daigon95 Don’t get me wrong the dynamic between Armin-Annie is cute and I’d ship normally.
      But what @jjc5871 said is true.
      Armin doesn’t have to like Annie for him to notice things around her. We’ve seen him multiple times how observant he is. This was one of those times. Also no he didn’t have to go around checking out the others ODM gears when Annie literally stood next to him. He saw Marcos ODM gear and recognized it. It could’ve have been anyone really.

I know from the meta conversation Isayama intended for their to be a non-binary character, this is the first time it hit me.
