This is a GREAT coin-geek video, I enjoyed every minute of it! I remember when I was a kid in grade school when this quarter came out. I also remember the painting of all the fire hydrants with patriotic red-white & blue artwork to strut your patriot stuff. Ahhh, those were the days.

WHENS THE LAST time you ever went to a coin shop and saw a rough Condition coin for sale well u won't cause they are lying scumbags they want the opportunity of cleaning them and getting all the glory. I know this because I found out exactly how they do it and sent one that I cleaned to pcgs for grading and they sent it. Back to me with an ms66+ grade I cleaned the coin that was worth a little more than face value cleaned it properly came back an ms66+ worth $$725 these coin dealers make car dealers look like saints lol, just a bit of info that all people to know.
I've had a couple doubles, which I was told they were not. The best ones were where nobody I asked could tell me what the 1940's half's missing AF looked like. Engravers had to add them cause the die was worn. I "had" 4 or 5. Then I had a 41 Filipino dime with the die crack, but was told it wasn't. Then I had two 1941 us dimes and the words "in God we trust" were wavy, like so ~~ and this is my favorite answer of all. Post mint damage. It seems to me that in most circles a little guy can't have a coin. Only the big guys can find errors and such.
Ok i made no money on what I had because I'm poor white trash and am seen and treated as such. I had a few "dealers" tell me that I had nothing. I am financially unable to get anything graded and I am limited on what sort of equipment I have and need. All I have is a Moto g 5g. Nothing more. And the only reason I have that is because the guy at the store lied and said the one I really wanted was unavailable. So then help convinced me to get a Moto g 5g stylus. And guess what, that's not what I got. Boost is a disaster. They lie trick you and get you to take something that's isn't what you agreed on. I should have stayed with ST. Putting that aside back to the coins. I need a cheap but good digital usb microscope that I can connect to my phone. I have no other devices, no comp, laptops 😔😔 tablet or otherwise.
I've been collecting bicentennials since the early 90's and have enough to completely fill an old, 3 lb Yuban coffee can. I estimate that I have over 1500 quarters as well as over a hundred half-dollars. Also about 20 dollar coins. Never figured they'd ever be worth more than face value, so now I'm gonna have to go through them all.
@@MrsMingo I was looking through some bicentennial silver proof sets I have. I looked at 1 set, the quarter was double die with a mint mark S in uncirculated condition.$$$?
I have a steel cent with a big blotch on the back, the middle 60% is faint not sure if it’s a lamination error or struck through grease on the die but it’s interesting. I want to get it graded but I want to have enough coins to grade that it’s worth the effort.
I live in the Portland Oregon area and while talking about rare coins with a store clerk , he told me that some kids raided their grandparents coin collection, using them to buy candy and chips, over a period of several weeks before they got caught by the grandparents. He seen that the coins looked New, and being that he knew a little something about rare coins, he swapped out a few with his pocket change. Had them looked at and found that they were from the late 1960's thru early 1970's. He sold them and got a few hundred dollars.
If you have a computer you can get a cheap camera/microscope that hooks up via USB. Even cheap ones work great. You will be able to see the coin full screen size in perfect crisp detail. I am a machinist and use such cameras to see tiny detail of things I am machining.
I've been checking my change with a change scope for years, every coin. Searched probably hundreds of bicentennials, and over the years I've found two that have an error I can't find any info on.
Several million silver bicentennial quarters were melted down in the 80's due to a silver shortage. There would have been a lot more out there. Thanks QC!
I work at a carwash and you would not believe how much change and bills I find in the trash! Last year not counting quarters and bills and not just dollar bills I had $2,000 with the quarters and bills it probably would’ve got to 24. $2500. Not including the silver dimes and nickels that I kept plus all the gold chains and rings,
So I've never been able to find or find out any information about a Bicentennial quarter i had when i was 7 back in 1996, the drummer boy was missing his left drum stick. Does anyone know about that one or is it a one of a kind i spent on a bag of hot fries?
I found a bicentennial that has a very shiny coating that appears almost gold. It has several spots of tarnish on the coating. Any idea why it’s so shiny?
I have 3 of these coins. I know very little about all of this just instinct and hey that looks strange to use as tools. Which seems to be working out. I also have a skill for adapting so I find ways to look for what others ignore. I am just now learni g that this is a super power of mine. I am pushing 5 decades on this planet and not easy ones so I am thrilled to finally know I can screw up in reverse as mach ones said but they also said... Take my avice pull down your pants and slide down the ice. Good advice. Have fun y'all.
I don't understand what makes that mint state 68 bi-centennial quarter pictured above and to be worth 6 thousand so special. The coin looks dull and scratchy, I come across quite a few in my register change, all of which look so much better. What am I missing here. I feel ignorant at this point. Lol

Hi Connie, I know how it is. At 55, my eyes aren't what they used to be. You can do fine with an inexpensive magnifying glass. People have different reasons for getting coins graded. Personally, I would only get something graded if I needed to authenticate an error or variety, or if I had a top pop coin I wanted to preserve. You can check out www.pcgs.com and Daniel has some good videos on grading www.youtube.com/@CoinHELPu
I have bicentennial coins that are double diverse and reverse. One is a no ass 40% silver one is a filled D copper clad double divers and reverse, and one is a mark double divers and reverse.
Oh my...........it's a 1906 indian head penny, just like you described. Except it's NOT an indian on the face of the coin. If you do a LITTLE research, all your answers ARE available.

Interesting that when I have a coin like this, dealers call it machine doubling but when the dealer has one like this, it’s a double die. Go figure!
Having cake and eating it too is the dealer game. Gotta learn what machine doubling is compared to a DD- bc isn't it died by machines? It's BS
