It is so amazing to see both of you working hard while having a great day - all at the same time - and then even untangle the cage from the prop. You guys really rock! You should have 100k subscribers!
The sailing ship you think is a restaurant is an exact replica of the Mayflower that took the pilgrim fathers from Plymouth, England in 1620 and is a seagoing ship. That's how sailing ships looked back then. Believe she was built in Brixham, Devon in the 1950s but completed a major rebuild last year at Mystic Connecticut
Thank you for sharing your experience with the lobster pot, if experienced sailors like yourself can do it I won’t feel so embarrassed the next time I pick one up! Another great episode.
Thanks Luke for saying that more women should sail. You have made my day. Always wanted to sail, bit late in life but I am going on a competent crew course in a few weeks. Great to watch a couple of Welsh lads, I'm a Tenby girl. Happy travels.
Another great video..lucky the rope was not wrapped around the people...stay safe...we're off to Padstow on Wednesday for a week...looking forward to good sail.
Cool that robot was odd.. What a ass getting the rope hooked on the prop man that the pits at night.. So. Lucky lads.. Fair winds and safe sailing lad's.. Grate video again!. ⛵🎵⚓💪🧀🧀🧀
Really enjoyed the video lads it did show how hard it must be being a solo sailor with issues like the crab pot incident Happen it must be great having each other’s back. It did make me laugh you guys with the Robot especially how everyone else in the supermarket completely ignored it like it wasn’t there. Thanks and take care lads.
Can't imagine how you would deal with that situation by yourself 🤔. That robot was really strange. Still can't figure out what its purpose was. Was funny messing with it 😁
Great to see you both enjoying the journey. Do not underestimate the dangers of cold water. I sailed a dinghy every weekend for 5 years and almost learned the hard way - wear a wetsuit and practice freeing up ropes etc when you can to be ready when it's really needed.
Well, we New Englanders have learned to stow a wet suit for such a time as this. It happens now and then. There are some tricks to the trade to try before donning the wet suit. Enjoy watching your adventures. I'm next
Great stuff. Got to see NYC harbor and Statue of Liberty our father's Irish relatives experienced when emigrating in 1916 -- then Plymouth as our mother's ancestors experienced in 1620. All would've loved view of your travels. Onward!
That is a good idea John. Sometimes it can wrap itself around the prop so tight that you have to go down there with a knife. Can be quite dangerous in swell
I agree!!! Let’s get them there and share, another great episode lads, and enjoying every one of them , such an experience and I’m very envious, your both an inspiration⛵️⚓️👍🏼
Great following you on your journey. We went through the Cape Cod Canal in 2002 and on to Plymouth. The Mayflower was built at Brixham UK and sailed across to Plymouth in 1957. I was taken by my dad to see it being built in 1956 when we were on holiday in Torquay. It's as good a replica of the original ship as the sparse information available will allow. Keep going guys, it's great stuff!
Thanks for being so encouraging about women sailing. My daughter and I head for our competent crew and day skipper training in just over a week - sailing down the east coast of Qld. We watch your videos every week - it is our special Monday night treat - cuppa tea and Sailing Brothers. I am nervous about having to go into the water with jellyfish, sharks and all manner of Aussie beasties about in the water.
Hi Kerry We think more women should sail and we think it's absolutely fantastic that you and your daughter are going for your competent crew and days skip a training 👍. We hope there's a slice of cheddar cheese with your cup of tea 🧀. I would be nervous about going in the water down there 😲😁
Good to see you visiting more places. Caught line was a bit of an issue but good job sorting it. Try having some water boiling to shower down afterwards, only way to warm up again.
Another fine video. I live on Cape Cod and have spent a fair amount of time putting around Plymouth harbor in my boat. The weird looking Lego boat is the Mayflower 2, a replica of the ship that the Pilgrims came across the Atlantic in and landed in Plymouth in 1620. Did you guys see Plymouth Rock? It is there on the waterfront. The Cape Cod Canal is a modern wonder and the train bridge is an incredible engineering feat. Good stuff but watch out for the Lobster pots. It must be why you are avoiding Maine because they are everywhere up there. 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to write your message. Those damn crab pots are everywhere. We should have done a little bit of history on Plymouth as it's full of it. Crazy to think pilgrims came across the Atlantic on that boat with no charts. Passing through Cape Cod canal was really good fun. The train bridge is incredible ✌️
Yow guys what a great episode, I don't think I would have gone into that cold water it's always cold up there in the New York area, those crab traps are a pain but what can ya'll do but get it do so you can keep moving, having fun , your better off waring ya'll wet sute when you get to Canada if you think it cold now great episode be safe 🤙🏾
Hey Winston The water is very very cold up here. Didn't realize how cold it was until I got in 🥶. Those lobster pops are literally everywhere all over the coast. We miss the tropical warm bath water of the Caribbean but the scenery up north is amazing 😍
Yet another adventure👍🏻. Point 1. The waters cold, put a wetsuits on. Point 2. Pull up the crab point, could be fresh seafood on the menu. Point 3. Luke needs to be more sympathetic when Adam’s in the water. Sounded like he was totally relieved it wasn’t him 😂😂😂😂😂. Top job guys 👍🏻
Nice to unwind & watch you guys on a Sunday evening & good job Adam for getting in that freezing sea & untangling the crab pot 🙌 I've actually made a goal to be a solo female sailor with my daughter (would be good to teach her sailing skills too) & our cat & just live that bit freely plus a bonus not having any neighbours haha & its nice to meet people from all walks of life 😊 Rob the robot was weird but cool at the same time lol 😂
Hi Mish Providing the nation with Sunday evening entertainment 😁. Didn't realize the water would be so cold until I got in 🥶. Being a sailor and teaching your daughter with the cat is a fantastic idea Mish. No noisy neighbors just friendly people 😁
Really glad to see last week’s episode in Newport RI. It’s just amazing the number of really beautiful sailboats there are there. And you hit Newport at prime-time: on American Independence Day - fireworks and all! It’s our biggest summer holiday so everybody goes sailing. Southeastern Massachusetts is a secret sailing paradise, except that the water is never more than 15°-18° at the warmest. It’s a well-known fact hereabouts - don’t plan on going swimming in Cape Cod. Plymouth and Plymouth Rock is one of the first English settlements in America, so the town is full of historical curiosities. I enjoyed how you interjected a bit of 21st century high tech with the Stop&Shop robot as part of your visit to historic Plymouth. Nobody around here can figure out why they have that damn robot in the store, it’s generally a nuisance. Looking forward to your next stopover in Boston, aka Beantown. I’m sure you enjoyed it.
Hi Cathy We were lucky to hit Newport at the right time. Had an amazing couple of days surrounded by beautiful boats. The whole place is fantastic for sailing but the water is very cold. Plymouth was very historic and full of wonderful history. That's robot was bizarre. Until next week 😁✌️
That robot is used to Shanghai sailors. You lucky. I was on a boat in winter up there we had a trap wrapped around our prop. Had to send divers over with a razor knife to cut it off. Thank you
Hey guys, I live in Plymouth MA and I sail my 28ft. Sloop out in the bay all the time. Those damned Lobster boys are a real pain, so many of them. Glad to see you got off ok and had a good time in town. I would have loved to catch up with you and shown you around. Hope you have a safe voyage!
Hi Simon. Never seen so many lobster pots in all our lives. There are lots around the coast in the UK but here is really something else. It's an amazing sailing area ⛵✌️
Bit late telling you lads this now but the area where you jumped in is shark territory... all around cape cod is..... I was in the water there years ago and couldn't believe the cold... Amazing to think it's on the same latitude as portugal yet so much colder water temp.
The water looks very inviting but it's absolutely freezing and full of sharks. It's where Jews was filmed. I think it's all the cold water coming down from northern Canada 🥶
One of my daughters just got bk home from London, she says it's a very Beautiful city and she had a great time there. I have told her about you lads sailing to America. I sure hope you boys get to catch up with Barry some day
Hi Gail London is a very beautiful place the touristy areas and expensive I should imagine. Is she one of our fans now? One day we will be back in Barry 😁
Was on the edge of my seat watching you free the prop - I share Luke's aversion to cold water. Why didn't you wear the wetsuit if you have one? Glad to see your swift recovery. I share your hopes more women will sail - I'm fortunate in having several female sailing friends and they're all very capable.
That robot probably had a camera in it. The security guys in the cctv room were laughing and calling their mates, "Hey come and look at these crazy British guys"
So good boys. Your trip gets better and better. So damn envious. I seem to remember on a previous video you mentioned the top deck and cabin was solid fibreglass am I right? Take care keep safe.
Hi Adam & Luke, what an incident packed episode this was, and really pacey as well. Engine on tick over and doing 5.4 kts, almost out of control, Sheesh !!! As for that mill, there's just as good a one at Carew, yer didn't have to go that way to see one. 🤣🤣 I enjoyed the chat with the man on the bicycle, he was really knocked out hearing your tales. But that replica, was it the Mayflower ? imagine leaving Plymouth in one of those and no charts for when you get to yer destination, scary, really tough people. Speaking of which, Adam, that was some feat unhooking that rope off the prop, maybe buy a neoprene shorty jacket for such occasions ?. I could've sworn I saw two little lumps each side of yer neck, when yer got out of that ice bath. 🤣🤣👍👍👍👍Kind Regards, Barnacle Bern SY Cadbri SW Wales.
Hey Bernie Sounds like you really enjoyed that episode. It did have a bit of everything from fouled prop to the Mayflower. It is amazing people cross the Atlantic on something like that with just a plum Bob and lookouts. The water was so cold didn't realize how cold it was until I got in. It was sure nice of Luke to hand me a dry towel and a hot cup of tea- NOT. Thanks for the message Bernie really appreciated. I'm guessing you're home from holiday?
@@TheSailingBrothers Yeah, home for now, much too hot in Greece at this time of the year. Will go back Sept/Oct time, put a few miles under the keel, then put her to bed for the winter. 😢😢ps, I didn't like to mention the warm towel & hot drink. Remember, I've stood next to Luke, he's a big Boy🤣🤣
Sad to think you will put her back on the hard for winter 😭. You should chase the endless Summer. I did ask Luke for a towel and something warm but he didn't entertain it 😭🤣🤣🤣 only kidding
Hi guys. How can you see those crab pots ? Do they have some sort of marker. Kind regards Mark Clifton. Great channel . I have watched everyone of your videos , since you started on UA-cam. Keep up the great channel
I would've been a lot heavier tempted to mess with that robot, maybe tried to cover the sensor with something just to see what would happen! It'd probably stop moving and send an alert and I'd have been kicked out of the store ... good on you for resisting the devil's temptation 👏 😂
Why we have rope cutter installed on the propeller. Pots are a nightmare, not all are properly marked or buoyed up on correct length line so they don’t pull under the surface
Another great week, we so enjoy your posts. Love the mix of sailing and sharing the visits you make to the places along the coast. I thought you were very brave in that very cold water, I would have been more vocal. Thought you definitely deserved a towel and hot drink when you got out.
guys your living the dream,l have had similar experience on the south china sea off the coast of vietnam we had it wrapped round the prop, captain had to dive off back pitch black(03.00 hours)rope round the waist knife between teeth took a while diving sawing diving sawing ,when he did it and came out of water l had to scrub him down he was covered in sea lice man was he cussing.Have fun guys just one thing be careful with the sun maybe wear your hats there is a baseball cap they make for sailers it has a attachment at the back and you clip it on your tee shirt
Hey John. Wow what a story, braver than me going in the water during the day. We are a lot more sensible with wearing hats and covering up now since the Caribbean 👌✌️
Couple of points lads. 1. I think you said Wales, in England! I know a lot of Americans think of the UK as England, but you guys will never be allowed back into Cardiff after that one. 2. I think Jaws was set in the Long Island / Cape Cod / Martha’s Vineyard ares, and I believe there do tend to be a higher concentration of Great Whites there than in many other places - so yikes, I’d have been 💩 myself at the thought of going in the water there. Luke you probably did right thing putting Adam in, not much 🥩 on him!
I was wondering when someone was going to pick that up Alan. Wales in England? 🤭🤣🤣🤣. Never really thought about sharks whilst I was in the water but I could have been eaten. You're right there is not much meat on me ✌️
Lost footage! Totally unacceptable, thats it I’m going to stop watching & following you two travelling around the world which I have🤣🤣🤣🤣 What a shame love you two keep up that fantastic work ❤
Love watching you two, but I think you do yourselves a disservice not knowing the local history of where you land. Plymouth is the cradle of America. Learning local history and Lore certainly makes my stops more rich and interesting. Fair winds!
I love your vids, but was worried about you going in the ice-cold water. Why didn't you both put the wet suits on if you knew how cold it was!! what if he went into shock and you went in to save him, then you went into shock especially when you said what you are like with cold water, always make a plan of things that could happen and some ways of getting out of it, I'm glad this isn't questions from a coroner's court, stay safe lads.
Really didn't realize how cold the water was until I got in Paul. Should have slipped my wet suit on and tied a line around my waist just in case. Didn't really think as we were in a difficult position being in a marked channel with lots of traffic and the wind was picking up 😫
Hi Boys. I was having withdrawal symptons all week waiting for this episode, haha. Finally caught up with all the back episodes, from your circumnav. of UK and to the USA! I have a feeling that 'Jaws' the movie was filmed in the Cape Cod area. Wouldn't catch me jumping into that water, haha. Mind you, a shark bit a woman off Cornwall a couple of weeks ago. Not a serious injury, but another one was spotted this weekend just off a beach! Take care and why didn't Luke have the kettle on when you were freezing your you-know-whats off in the water? Regards from Kernow.
Hi Geoff. No more withdrawls Sunday has arrived. There are a lot of sharks around the Cape Cod area, great whites 😲. I have heard there are more sharks in the UK these days. Not surprised there was an attack. He was just glad it wasn't him going in 😂🤣
Nice videos guys... your reefing ines (12:55) are not getting the clew of the sail down to the boom and you may want to adjust them. Try leading the reefing line down the port side of the mainsail and starboard side of boom. Around and up the port side of boom tying a bowline to the same reefing line. The metal guide that you are using to ty the reefing line to is no more than a guide to hold the line in plass and is not designed to bear the loads associated with reefing. This should BTW be moved forward so it is directly under the reefing cringle. The result should be a better tensioned mainsail under reef. Good luck! ua-cam.com/video/IE8altwn7LM/v-deo.html
@@TheSailingBrothers I was afraid of that. Why not try it with the foot out and reefed as mentioned? It may well sail better even not reefed and costs nothing to find out 🙂

Wow! Well done chaps. I’ve never yet had to go in to clear my prop. Close a few times but very impressive!

A great thing to have for a situation like that is a pruning saw, normally used to reach up, and cut limbs off, can easily reach down to cut rope.

Was on the edge of my seat watching you free the prop - I share Luke's aversion to cold water. Why didn't you wear the wetsuit if you have one? Glad to see your swift recovery. I share your hopes more women will sail - I'm fortunate in having several female sailing friends and they're all very capable.
Didn't realize how cold the water was until I got in 🥶. Should have done things differently TBH. More women should sail it's not just for males 👍
I really enjoy your channel
Thanks Joshua ✌️
@@TheSailingBrothers you’re very welcomed
That robot probably had a camera in it. The security guys in the cctv room were laughing and calling their mates, "Hey come and look at these crazy British guys"
I wouldn't be surprised 🤣🤣🤣
So good boys.
Your trip gets better and better. So damn envious. I seem to remember on a previous video you mentioned the top deck and cabin was solid fibreglass am I right?
Take care keep safe.
We love to share the adventure. Our deck is solid fiberglass. No core in there. Proper older solid boat ⛵
Great episode, I somehow knew you were going to call the robot Rob. :)
It just slips off the tongue doesn't it Rob 😁
Hey Bernie
Sounds like you really enjoyed that episode.
Kind regards
Mark Clifton.
Great channel . I have watched everyone of your videos , since you started on UA-cam. Keep up the great channel
Hi Mark. The pots are marked by a small bouy but they are so many of them. We were in a marked channel. Thanks for sticking with us Mark ✌️
Shhh The robot was an alien trying to do a bit of shopping or it was a spy for price caparisons lol
It could have been any of those two Richard 🤣🤣
Another great episode. Do you not have a wet suit for the cold swims?
We do have wetsuits. However I didn't realise it would be that cold until I got in and had the shock of my life 😫
Might be "Polly" the floor pollisher .
Could have been Andrew ✌️
I would've been a lot heavier tempted to mess with that robot, maybe tried to cover the sensor with something just to see what would happen! It'd probably stop moving and send an alert and I'd have been kicked out of the store ... good on you for resisting the devil's temptation 👏 😂
We did mess with it a little but it was very tempting to knock the thing over 🤣🤣😂😂
Why we have rope cutter installed on the propeller. Pots are a nightmare, not all are properly marked or buoyed up on correct length line so they don’t pull under the surface
We should get a rope cutter installed. We had an old one on there but it was incomplete. You're right not all the pots are marked properly 😲
You’ve great faith in your clothes pegs in that wind
Only the best pegs on our boat ⛵
Another great week, we so enjoy your posts. Love the mix of sailing and sharing the visits you make to the places along the coast. I thought you were very brave in that very cold water, I would have been more vocal. Thought you definitely deserved a towel and hot drink when you got out.
Thanks Tony. We try and mix a bit of sailing with land activity. Try to balance a bit of both. Didn't realize how cold the water was until I got in 🥶
Great videos and story! What boat is it you have ?
We have a rival 34 built in 1979 in Southampton England
Did you apply the teak decking yourselves. What product it it Flexiteek by any chance.if you did fit it yourself did you video it?
The fake teak was already on the boat when we bought her. Could be Flexiteek. Sorry Terry
@@TheSailingBrothers Very envious!!!
How is the cooking going on your new stove?
Still hasn't arrived yet Brian. Hopefully get it in the next couple of weeks fingers crossed. There was one hell of a backlog 😔
I like the way there was a nice dry towel waiting for you Adam …….. . Not !
Yes I know the kindness 😂😂🤣🤣
guys your living the dream,l have had similar experience on the south china sea off the coast of vietnam we had it wrapped round the prop, captain had to dive off back pitch black(03.00 hours)rope round the waist knife between teeth took a while diving sawing diving sawing ,when he did it and came out of water l had to scrub him down he was covered in sea lice man was he cussing.Have fun guys just one thing be careful with the sun maybe wear your hats there is a baseball cap they make for sailers it has a attachment at the back and you clip it on your tee shirt
You're right there is not much meat on me ✌️
Well done guy's I'm not a big fan of your USA trip hope Canada gets better. I'm a warm climate person.
Dave B. Thailand.
Well we hope you enjoy Canada a little more David 👌
Lost footage! Totally unacceptable, thats it I’m going to stop watching & following you two travelling around the world which I have🤣🤣🤣🤣
What a shame love you two keep up that fantastic work ❤
Thank Chris 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's been a epic adventure so far and we are super glad your along for the journey
What was the robot supposed to be doing?
Not sure TBH. Some say it's for advertising say it's full spying on people 🤔
@@TheSailingBrothers 👍👍
a folding prop for the future?
Would love a folding prop ❤️
Love watching you two, but I think you do yourselves a disservice not knowing the local history of where you land. Plymouth is the cradle of America. Learning local history and Lore certainly makes my stops more rich and interesting. Fair winds!
We are looking into more of the history of the places we visit. Plymouth was full of amazing history which we should have explained a little 👍
I love your vids, but was worried about you going in the ice-cold water.
Didn't really think as we were in a difficult position being in a marked channel with lots of traffic and the wind was picking up 😫
@@TheSailingBrothers Glad your both ok
What on earth was that robot for? Does anyone know?
Never really found out. Maybe it was for advertising 🤔
He was just glad it wasn't him going in 😂🤣
Tot off
✌️

Nice videos guys... your reefing ines (12:55) are not getting the clew of the sail down to the boom and you may want to adjust them. Try leading the reefing line down the port side of the mainsail and starboard side of boom. Around and up the port side of boom tying a bowline to the same reefing line. The metal guide that you are using to ty the reefing line to is no more than a guide to hold the line in plass and is not designed to bear the loads associated with reefing. This should BTW be moved forward so it is directly under the reefing cringle. The result should be a better tensioned mainsail under reef. Good luck!

Thanks for the link. I will take a look at this video 👍
This is not going to work for us as our main is not lose footed 🤔
@@TheSailingBrothers I was afraid of that. Why not try it with the foot out and reefed as mentioned? It may well sail better even not reefed and costs nothing to find out 🙂
We can certainly give it a go ✌️
