    This version is the "Real" Angelina singing. When she sings on TICTAC she is not herself,must be doing what she thinks the young crowd is crazy over. I only watch TICTAC to get to see her beautiful face.

    Almost all the videos of Angelina from these years reflect her experimentation with sound and technique. She lets us see her issues as she deals with them. The end product is often home-made and not always 'record quality' but it's a snapshot of the work she's done to become the incredible singer she is. I'll miss these 'practice' sessions; we've been very fortunate to get to watch them.

    Good reaction, but letting you know, she always experiments, that's why she is as good as she is at such a young age. God Bless!

    Ellis, if I was young (I'm 70) and wanting to learn music technique, you would be the person I would want to learn from! Thanks for using Angelina's experimentation as a lesson for us. We're never too old to learn something new.

    Great reaction - yes Angelina is always experimenting, and has no problems with us sharing the experience. We are so privileged that we get to see and hear all of this - you have only just scratched the surface of this incredible artist - I'm here for the journey...

    Angelina was covering Lesley Gore. Listen to an original of this (like this one: ua-cam.com/video/JDUjeR01wnU/v-deo.html) and you'll hear reverb on Ms Gore's mic somewhat like Angelina used. And as you say, Angelina is always experimenting. She explores the limits of her vocal talent in many of her covers: range, volume (whisper to belting), vibrato, vocal fry, rasp, melismas, you name it. I'd even say that her recordings could be used in master classes on these vocal techniques (e.g.: "Vocal Fry? OK, listen to 'I'd Rather Go Blind'"!).

    When this song first came out in 1963, I was 7 years old. I loved the song, but mostly because of the sound/music. I wasn't really old enough to have any deep thoughts about the message. But as the 60s played out, and I grew older, I attained greater insight into the song's message, and became quite aware of the song's socio-cultural context. I never had any problem with the message. It was very appropriate to the spirit of the times.
    Nevertheless, as I grew older, my political philosophy evolved from "no opinion, who cares" to "fiscally conservative but socially liberal," to "libertarian" (a term I never even heard until the late 1980s.) And for the past decade or so, I've become a committed Voluntarist. And from that perspective, the song now means more to me than just a woman asserting her independence from the control of her male romantic partners. I feel it in my bones as a sort of anthem expressing my rejection of illegitimate authority, backstopping my prime directive: "I'm not here to simply question authority. I'm here to deny the legitimacy of its very existence!"

    Ellis, I just heard the original by Lesley Gore ua-cam.com/video/JDUjeR01wnU/v-deo.html and it sounds as if she was on the back of the auditorium. I think the issue could be the quality of the mic back then (1964). I think Angelina is recreating that "ambience" perfectly.

    Your usual masterclass on a reaction that leaves me slightly more informed. You have become my favorite reactor in a very short period I’d time since I first subscribed.
    I love your tangents. I recently watched a performance in an organ in some huge cathedral in Europe where there was an astonishing amount of delay/echo, and he discussed modifying his playing to accommodate the “room”.

    Isn’t “I Put A Spell On You” in 6/8 time?
    She seems pretty comfortable in it. I think the pulse of it lends itself to her back phrasing without it feeling like she’s dragging.

  • @Bustefaen
    @Bustefaen 3 роки тому

    Haha, you are picking up the infectuous Angelina happy wave! Also, «I Put a Spell on You» is in 6/8 too. The reverb (?) effect just sounds «period» to me, close to the original, though I appreciate the analysis. Very upbeat Angelina in an easy-peasy song.

    you never mentioned that she was singing in different tempo to the music .. or is the song written that way?
    You were focusing on the mic. and the reverb.
    I need to ask you a favor. Could you please listen again to this on your own, and perhaps, if you actually choose to do another reaction .. could you please try to do the reaction including anything technical as if she was actually making that choice as her experiment with this song? You're brilliant .. and you get all the technical nuances but you keep pointing them out as something that everyone else missed. Don't forget she truly is a savant .. she experiments constantly and, for most of us, subtly .. but you pick up the little things I believe she's playing with and choosing .. and perhaps missing her point.
    if she has heard any of your reactions, she knows you hear detail that others don't seem to notice .. I'm sure she heard from the mechanics she's asking these changes from about the effect etc.. but she might be excited that one of her reactors really gets them and she wants to hear if it did to the song what she intended to do to the song. This is a song of power .. an old song of feminism. You don't own me! Don't tell me what to say, what to do, what effects to play with ..
    I also believe her grandmother Mery is an autistic savant .. which is why they play back and forth in some of the rehearsal tapes. Have you watched the rehearsal tape of Cry Me A River? perfect example.
    So .. in this particular song .. could the choice to sound like you're in the back of the room be a perfect choice for someone that doesn't really hear you when you speak?
    Since she was tiny, literally, she's been playing with old songs and changing things .. rhythm .. words .. notes .. and fascinating us with how she can make almost any song better.
    i SO love and appreciate what you know, how you hear .. could you perhaps include the possibility that what you hear is EXACTLY what she chose to do and perhaps consider why she might have chosen this and does it improve the meaning in the song or the emotion ??
    .. just sayin ..
    Also.. all this is just me thinking and listening myself and not, in any way, fact. I'm not claiming to know how Angelina does what she does. I do know that she is not just a pretty girl who was born with a good voice. She is brilliant and has been working on her craft all. her. life.
    She makes more people and more men cry than anyone I've known in my 70 years of life and listening to music. She is called "magical" by many many many people .. and I think it's her craft, her knowledge of the very things you hear and tell us about! So I just want you to go deeper with her .. to consider that it was a choice .. a conscious choice .. by a brilliant musician who just happens to be 15 years old. Thanks Ellis. I'm so glad you're here and doing what you're doing. You are amazing .. and you make me yearn to see you hear and see and share what you see .. but hearing these things as choices she made and consider why she might have made them.
    I sincerely pray I am not offending you in any way but just wanting to hear more from you about the value of these things to the music and the words of the songs and the emotional power of the songs.

    Having seen quite a few Angelina reactions over the last one and a half years, I have aquired this peculiar habit of waving at her "first" so her wave "back" in a way becomes a "response". Funny thing is, my gut feeling told me to wave at you at the end of this video, just in time.. =)

    I have seen some of your reactions. And I do not get it. If you, a guitarist, fino so many "fails" about AJ's. Who you keep going on her? For numbers? So lame. If you did not made it in your field, do not go spraying bs over everyone who is really talented.

    Oh. And don't listen to her cover of 'Here Comes the
    Sun'. I hate to say that but, sort of like this song, she tries too hard to sing it exactly like the original and it's almost like anyone could have been singing it. I didn't hear any Angie. Unfortunate production and arrangement choices. At least it's a rarity! Thanks;

    • @izzyboot9408
      @izzyboot9408 3 роки тому +7

      Don , I disagree. I think , like others here too have noted , that her production and arrangement choices are quite deliberate and are resulting in a very close replication of the original sound and it’s acoustic limitations . To me , her artistic interpretations seems what could be considered , very astute choices of production and arrangement . IF, and I say IF , if Angelina continued to use that same production and arrangement set up for say an Adele , or any another contemporary style rework that she does , then I would agree that ,THAT would be an error in judgement . Angelina has even included that “vinyl crackle “ into her production of 7th Heaven to reflect that bygone era, so her deliberate intention to replicate sounds, I would argue , is a deliberate choice .

    • @corky6481
      @corky6481 3 роки тому +3

      I don't hear "Here Comes the Sun" as an Angelinized song. Seems to me the production and arrangement were designed to "fit" a fundraiser with inclusion of children to pull heart strings and loosen the pocketbooks. Angelina gave us a taste of her belting, but I think the focus was to be on the needy children with intention. Here Comes the Sun is more a humanitarian performance than entertainment. I would agree that Ellis might want to put this one towards the bottom of the list.
