I’m a home player and have one of these hooked up to a Trio+(GE200+TrioPlus = Many hours of happiness for us guitar loners). Now I’ve had a number of multi effects pedals in the past in the same price range (Line 6, Zoom, Boss etc.) and they have always had this sort of harsh sardine can speaker type of sound. Now with this pedal I’m able to get nice warm sounds
straight to the headphones or to a non guitar amp speaker (Roland PM 30 speaker).
I listen to anything from Curtis Mayfield to Stevie Ray Vaughan, so I like it clean or overdriven, and I can get many playable warm clean or heavy tones that don’t sound like they’re coming out of a smart phone speaker Do I find it perfect… No not at all, the tones are not perfect, however, it’s definitely the best sounding multi effects unit that I have ever used in this
price range; to the point I would like to say there is no comparison, but I haven’t tried them all.
So I would tend to disagree with your conclusion in the video, as for someone who needs a small portable unit to play mostly in the house via headphones or a speaker system, it is simply amazing.
Also, worth pointing out that you don’t need to know about rocket science or have a PhD in quantum physics to be able to use the unit, they’ve done a real good job making everything nice and easy.
Thanks, I do like watching your reviews but just felt that you didn’t give the GE200 enough justice

Suggestion? When you a demonstrating multi-FX's could you try to spend 2 minutes copying in some easily recognizable signature sound? Like here's artist X's signal chain and here's what this unit sounds like if we try to replicate it. I think that would be really helpful for us viewers to establish how well the unit does what it set out to do.

Gaaaaaasp! Amazing video idea: what this guy suggests vs the real thing. Modelled signal chain vs hardware. Or Variax vs real banjo!!!

It's probably not as fun as rummaging through the effects pedals cabinets, but that would be an excellent Sounds Like...
No one artist, a selection of decent guitars with differnt pickups, and one effect unit. Make it sound like artists X, Y, and Z. And G, J, or P, if time permits.

Nice demo guys but just a small suggestions for next demos of modeling amps : when you scroll through amp models to preview tone it would be more relevant for us the viewers to have the gain set below 100%. Actually later with the gain set at 50pct it sounded way more natural.
Finally adding a demo of speaker simulation with 3rd party IR would be a nice addition as it is one key element that distinguishes the GE200 from other affordable amp modelers.

Nothing makes a multi-fx unit sound like absolute garbage quite like leaving the wah on for 5 minutes of the video. I enjoy and appreciate chappers and the captain for what they do, but this particular demo was sub-par. A little more effort than dialing a single Marshall tone and throwing a bunch of incompatible effects on top would have been appreciated.

    • @MeTuLHeD
      @MeTuLHeD 6 років тому +10

Have to agree. They made very little effort to tweak the tone at all. No real EQ-ing to speak of or messing with different cabs, etc. It was like they went into this one with the attitude "this is gonna suck". Check out the Choptones channel for proper demos of what this unit can sound like.

I haven't used a multi effects unit in a long time but I was really impressed with how easy this looked to use and edit parameters compared to how daunting some competitors.

  • @YellowLightNinja
    @YellowLightNinja 6 років тому +16

Ola's video told more information in much less time. Also the wah was on half the time. Also impulse responses are absolutely a standout function because most multieffect pedals have terrible cabs. And there's not a market for something like this? The cheapest competitor for something like this is the Helix LT which is about $700 more than this, not many people have $1000 laying around.

I started playing guitar in 1990, when rack effects units were all the rage. I thought at the time that it would be silly to spend a fortune on pedals and only have a few effects when I could have 100s of effects in one rack. Through the years I realized that pedals sound much better, and they have much more tweakability for each effect than a multi effects unit. One can set patches with multiple effects, but now one can do the same thing with switching units for pedals. I didn’t use 90% of the effects in the rack unit. Many of them were just goofy and impractical. I can dial in a sound on a pedal in seconds, whereas with a multi effects unit I would have to scroll through menus to change a parameter, try it, and then go through the menus again. I really don’t use 20 effects at one time anyway. Most guitarists just use 2 or 3 effects at once. I think it’s worth the extra money and space to build a good pedalboard than to mess around with a multi effects unit. I can get a better sound and get it faster with pedals. Even the big artists who still use rack effects units usually say they’re just using it for delay and reverb anyway. The only current artist I can think of who uses a multi effects unit for loads of effects and gets an incredible sound out of it is Larry Mitchell. Just my 2 cents.

For the "Bedroom-Sudio" guy...or gal, perhaps between computer amp modulation and these units, you can really go from 'playin guitar' to making music very easily. I would think a product like this in the hands of a bedroom studio player is where these things shine. I would be able to pretty much track any sound I desire, store it, recall it for overdubs etc. Pretty cool IMO.

Yes you CAN use your own Impulse Responses, which does beat the line 6 pod hd, boss gt series, zoom g5/3n series and others in it price range.
It's pretty a big mistake to NOT mention that in the review, since it's the big feature for this 'cheap' unit what makes it something special.

You guys sell the Radar pedal for 129 - The Ge200 is a little overpriced in my opinion but it's a much higher quality sound than the comparable Zooms etc. The only thing missing from the GE200 is an effects loop imo.

I live in the U.S and had to order mine from Canada. Paid $254. There are some great instruction videos that will show the true power of what this can do. It's astounding. The size is sub-compact compared to my Headrush pedalboard. The built-in expression pedal is where it gets really cool. You can have it affect "multiple" effects and separate parameters at the same time. (Eg...fade in Reverb while it fades out a Delay. Or start with pristine clean and fade in a roaring distortion. Endless possibilities) Can't wait to dive in and have some fun. 200 presets, bright usable screen and loaded with every effect you need and even a Looper and drum machine). Wow.

A bit of constructive comment here, WHY do you demo a multi effects pedal with 25minutes of metal guitar playing and presets which at a push MIGHT be about 5% of the audience who will actually but it??? I live Andertons demo's but for me it warlike you both couldnt be bothered to find out anything about it?? Lee, talk about putting the boot in on products you are trying to sell " is there a market for something like this?" what a negative statement. There is absolutely a market for this and if you had used a mainstream demo of general sounds and riff's people know, they would be flying out of your shop. From my perspective, a very poorly thought out review.

    • @FantasticExplorers
      @FantasticExplorers 4 роки тому +1

I also love their demos... But you bring up a good point...
Now I hate to be this negative, love these guys, but PERHAPS the reason they absolutely skewed this review was because this thing replaces SEVERAL petals that you would buy (like if you tried to build this thing yourself using individual effects pedals, the price would be INSANE)... almost all MOOER products have a good value... but this $300 or less item competes with things that are $700 to $1,500... therefore if you bought this product ultimately it would be stopping them from making more money!!!

I have watched about 20 videos so far and I’m pretty blown away.

I wanted to go dawless. Got a akai mpc one now, with a batterypack. And the Mooer ge150 is coming tomorrow. So with these 2 both running on batterypacks its perfect to have all te options i had with my daw, but now completely as a mobile studio for traveling.
Eventho i discovered the ge150 just this week in 2021 its timing could not be more perfect for my wishes.
1 backpack 1 guitar bag. 1 Microphone. But a full studio without the need to use my phone or a laptop. And im never stuck behind a desk again, unless i want to.
And thats refreshing after 20 years of recording. Hooray Tech.
Thanks for this review guys as the ge200 and ge150 are not that different.

Hi guys. Thank you for the test. I'm using this little dream machine for about on year now and I'm pretty hapy with it. I've been able to mimiq all the guitar artists I like and all the guitar amplifiers I like too. IT goes from ALLAN HOLDSWORTH sound to GARY MOORE, going to AC/DC, AL DI MEOLA, ROBBEN FORD and so on. All the guitar players I love the most.
Regarding the amplifiers,I've been able to get MATCHLESS sound, DUMBLE,MARSHALL BLUESBREAKER AMP and so on.
So, Modeling technology is almots perfect I M O. Of course, be aware that this kind of product will give you a "finished" product. You have to consider the final result as the sound you could get once you cam out of the studio and listen to th recordings of your performance.
With that in mind, I'm using an FR FR amplification. An amplified stage monitor for best results. Of course, people that are using a guitar amplifier may risk of being disappointed. I prefer use the amp and cab simulations in a lineat monitor in order to be consistent with this kind of product. That's the best way to use it.

The looper records in stereo, you can jam along with the drums and change patches all at the same time! Which you can't do with the zoom g5n. (Change patches whilst in loop mode). The mooer ge200 never runs out of dsp power! Also it has a sharc analog devises dsp chip. I took mine apart to have a look that's how I know. So yeah this pedal is a good bang for your buck! Don't forget it surports 3rd party impolse responses.

As many say, you seem to be downing a box that has 3rd party IR loader, Dr Z and Dumble amp models in the mix. They seem to have combined their preamps and redbox into one modelling pedal that has the same range as a Line6 LT, headrush etch at third of the price. My local shop has sold 200 of these in the last month, this obviously will affect Helix, Headrush sales. The competitor for me is the Katana not the high end pedals, so the Katana 50 in the same price range. An important point is Mooer has a Mac IR loader, but their Mooer Studio is windows only. Line 6 send out Paul Hindmarsh who lives with Line6 products. For me there are some gems in this pedal like Trelicopter and eleclady pedal models as well as looking at 3rd party IR loading and some good amp models. At the price those who dont want to afford the Helix LT or the unobtainable Ampli firebox which could be close price wise. For me the manual is good and you didnt read it and if you did this with a helix it would be the same. Paul does the demos with you, perhaps you should invite a Mooer specialist demo artist, there are some Brits who do this who were at Namm. It would not surprise me if you sold hundreds despite this awful de riding demo.

I do believe there is a space for this sort of pedals on the market. Beginners come to mind, I was gifted something similar to this when I was just learning to play, and I learned a fair lot from it through experimentation. So in that sense, I do think they're worth it. That beign said, mine was the cheapest of the cheapest, so it sounded really bad, and didn't really work half the time.
Nowadays, I want a pedal like this but that skips the amp and cab modeling, and focuses only on giving good quality effects to use with a nice amp. Imagine getting one that has some gain and modulation options to plug into the preamp of your amp, then some delays and reverbs and a looper into the fx loop. Something like the Boss DD-500, MD-500, and RV-500, but in a single package.

The GE200 is supposed to contain the same amp-models as are in the Micro Amps so it's already way better sounding than the Headrush. Just so you know.

Lollar pickups for all 3. The pickup selector is set to 3. But the tone pots are push pull. Its crazy but crazy may just work. Or not :-)

Let's roll back the thump knob a bit and see what else is on tap. With this one fellas, it seemed like you both were running late to the pub. There's a lot in this pedal that could have been covered for what time you devoted to it. I mean, one second of talk for its IR capabilities? That's the highlight of the rig. I have the Boss GT-1 and it seems similar except that the GT-1 is about 2/3 of the price of the Mooer. Jack of all trades and master of none is a great analogy for these. I have used mine live with different distortion pre-sets through a clean channel, and it was not bad sounding. It was also convenient, but it still is no comparison to an actual valve amp. Agree with Rob that the price on this one is high for what it is.

Hard to find in the US. The Zoom G3nx appears to be a better value and a better product. The appeal of these to me is that I DJ and can plug this into my PA. OF based options are more complicated and a other box is required to connect the guitar and amplifier.

i hope the next video is mooer radar. i watched a guy use radar tube power amp simulation in a solid state amp fx loop. it sounds amazing to my ears. could you do that if you decided to make the video? thanks

An interesting device - might be worth a shootout with the Boss ME80 and one of the Zoom devices - the 5 I’d think to make it close to the same spec. Perhaps a Line6 Firehawk (the HD500x perhaps although it is a higher price point). I admit I was not blown away nor was I offended either by the sounds. Biggest issue is the price even at $299 there are other options - but you certainly could not assemble a pedal board for that or arguably 1.5 times that - maybe if you stick to really affordable pedals you could duplicate much of the function for about twice that... and as an aside an iPad is a lot more expensive but of course does 1000x more so...

Ok. Two years old but hopeful for a response from someone who has tried the Mooer, zoom G3XN and Boss ME 80.
    Which sounds the best?
    Which has the best looper?

mooer has some grfeat affordable products. this would have to compete with the boss gt1 which is a 100 dollars cheaper and sounds 10,000 times better. a digital effects pedal still has a place. for me. you can get a digitech rp255. turn off the amp and cab modeling and put it on your board thru the effects loop and have all the reverb, modulation, and delay effects you could want with an expression pedal.

You'd need to spend a lot more time fiddling before you could say there's nothing this does really well. you'd need to put each individual efect up aginst a single pedal that does the same thing.

I have a really nice pedalboard with lovely OD pedals and reverbs, BUT i dont own a phaser, chorus, flanger, octave, and other pedals so I use my Zoom G5 for all those as they're great! I think fir a bedroom learner guitarist, budget multi FX are great, especially if they have things like loopers etc

I'm a great fan of your demos guys, but this one doesn't seem to be an honest one, is almost like you just wanted to throw away the unit and i see a lot of coments that adress this matter, maybe you really tried to give it a chance, but as a fan of your videos, i think that you should put more "love" into your reviews even when you don't like the products that you are testing, you guys have a really big fan base and people will make choises based on what you are showing them. Thanks for the demo anyway, i just purchased one of these because in all other demos going arround youtube it sounded a lot better.
    Cheers!

I usually love your videos, but I'm not sure this demo really does justice to the GE-200 at all. Like a lot of other people have said, these multi-effects units almost always sound bad if you don't tweak the presets just a bit. But this unit has a ton of great tones in it out of the box and the fact you can load in other third party IRs makes it excellent value for money.

What about the merge function? I was totally excited by it - on the face of it, it's what I've always dreamed of! It seems you can essentially make up two completely different effects and move between them on the expression pedal instead of the more abrupt click of a footswitch. But from the cool review, I'm wondering if the actual effects are just mediocre, it might not be worth it.
