Thanks for all of these videos. I am getting back into BMX after not riding since 2005 and wow, technology has changed so much since then. Love all of the info in these and how clearly you explain these new types of products. Well done, man!
Dude, you are honestly the best bmx source of information on UA-cam, nobody even comes close! I'm a father to an 8yo that just got into BMX, I'm 48, & felt a lil nostalgic, so i bought me a bmx as well, i got him a 2020 GT Performer Box Palm edition, & me a 2020 Sunday EX Chris Childs with Cult Hawk Cranks, Profile 25t chain ring, BSD Swerve Cassette with Odyssey Hazard rim, & Hazard in front as well, with The Shadow Conspiracy brake & Colony Lever. If my son takes care of his bike, & don't get it stolen I'll buy him a way better bike in like 2 years, but shit, i wanted a GT in the 80's SO BAD when i was his age, even older, so he's got a way better starter bike than most other 3rd graders, he's already CRYING(LITERALLY) for a BSD Swerve Cassette now too! 😆 You have taught me so much over the past week i was able to find good bikes to get, 35 years outta the game, what to look for in a newer style quality bike to tell you it's quality, as well as what components are good, you also help us not get taken advantage of, rare for a business man to try to actually have customers spend less money
I have 5 Haro,s all from back in the late 80s & early 90s & I run all the same parts on each of them & my preferred rim & tire set up for all my bikes are peregrine high pressure 48s with a sealed hub & the Haro multi-surface tires 1 x275 with the gum tan side wall , old school or mid school if you will , my tire pressure is between 35 & 38 pounds depending on how I ride , dirt , vert , street or flatland & did I mention that I,m 50 years young & I still ride to this day & all my Haro,s are from my childhood that I kept over the years .
I actually just got that primo wheelset he pulled down, vs rims with balance rear cassette and the n4fl v2 front hub and I love them so far, best wheels I've ever owned by far!
So glad its thursday. I was blessed this week both you and Nate spent time at epic. Hell ya definitely need to go back and get schooled about pressures
I see bullseye is still in the game and just as expensive as I remember back in the 90s, if i remember correctly around 299 for the hubs. Not sure which exact ones tho
Good vid, the only thing left out was the difference between sleeved rims and welded rims! And I guess spoke count for the midschool 48 spoke wheels and 14mm front and rear axles!
1 thing you missed, how the rim can be liced up. Their are some different ways to do it. I'm getting my Gsport rims radial with old school Shamano hubs. The frount spokes are 180 mm and back spokes are 165 mm, because of the hub diameter.. Very cool stuff.
Hi guys, need help with building my bike as I cant decide which rim I should use. On one hand there is the ( federal stance ) or the ( stranger crux V2 xl ) both freecoaster. Then on the other hand im thinking I could get a sim which has a ridge in the middle where the spoke nipples attach whereas the federal and sgrager cruz rims are flat where the spoke nipples attach. Any help is appreciated as im not sure if there is much strength difference or is being double walled strong enough . TIA
✌🏾 Bro... Mr. E reminds me of my dad, straight to the point and dont say the wrong thing, he will correct you and give you the techs on it... (THIS IS A RIM, AND THIS IS A WHEEL, OK)... ✌🏾 Bro, stay safe...
i saw you posted this video on your instagram story so i went to youtube to watch it and vuala it was the first video on my home page lol. i know i spelled vuala wrong
Z Rims were the alternative to Araya`s and UKAI`s that were always buckling but lighter than Skyway Tuff with the advantage they had a metamorphic property. There was talk of 48 spoke examples but i have never seen them.so perhaps ACS like Skyway should remake them if perhaps just as a novelty item ?
Handy dandy vid, thanks again! Maybe you could search/ ask for busted rims/wheels, and make a little corner to show off differences inside, cut em in half like ya boy said. Little demo corner orso
last time i heard the freezer myth was in the 90's. Phu said he wished the company's would send him a rim to cut in half to show the complete structure of the inside walls. well he or you could have pulled up pictures from some of the company's websites that show what he was talking about. I rarely bought any rims in the past 20 years without seeing a cross-cut picture of the rims. by the way my favorite rim is probably the heaviest ones i ever ridden and that would be the "Sun BFR's" those things were tanks. I don't know if you remember about a year ago i asked you if you knew of any that i could purchase........well i'm still looking so please keep an eye out for me please. Thank you so much for the great content and i'm sending good vibes your way for.............your finger.
I Remember skyway tuff 2s and spin 3 spoke wheels for racing then Araya 7x rims and primo hula hoop rims alex super E rims the first odyssey hazzard rims in tripple wall odyssey 7ka rims and what im rocking now is the cinema Reynolds rims 👍
Droppin knowledge...thanks! I thought crosslace was somethin else. I think a follow up on a complete wheelbuild would be awesome. U can talk hubs and spokes then tubes and tires another week. Appreciate it
So when you order rims, spokes, nipples, and the hubs online do they put it all together for you or do they send it all separately? Or do you have the option to ask them to do it for you? Please someone that’s experienced answer this.
I dont know shit about bikes I was enamored as a kid but left the sport for mega long... I picked up a WTP Crysis a few years ago I run Eclat tripping xl rims... this is very informative
i want more talk about bmx skyway tuff mags wheels. i have difficulty mounting tire on it. tires so hard to fits properly compare with steel rims and i even had tube blown.
Great video. Thank you for posting it. What would be a good wheel for a older heavier (200 lbs plus) flatland only rider? I have been looking for the best double walled chrome / silver wheel for a heavier Flatland only rider. I' am 5' 11" tall 245 lbs. Any assistance that you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I know this video was made a long time ago, but if I'm running 2.4 tires on 1.75 standard rims and I barely have clearance on my forks and back end, will my tires touch if I upgrade to 2.20 rim size? I'm buying the demo whistler proplus set.
I remember riding steel "tripple wall" rims on our dirt bmx's in the 90's and anything that was single or double wall was considered weak Now i ride aluminium double walls and they have been so damn tough and im 38 years old Hahaha And now i ride street and park
I had some Z-Rims. When they flexed the spokes punctured the tubes, so Miami hoppers were a no-no. I took some small motorcycle spokes and laced them, which stiffened the shit out of them, but still inevitably wouldn’t hold up to harsh riding. You had to keep them clean with alcohol for the brakes to bite well.
Bro phu knows his shit. Would love to just have more videos like this, getting his perspective and insight on the bmx world.
🤛🏽💯

That’s wild! I don’t remember that but si believe you!

Phu videos are my favorite
I just learned something new here.. Very informative
What's the thing called that holds the sealed bearing into place on the wheel
Maybe you got some info on the eclat tripple pin system are they just pinwelded or do they use real pins?
Great video! Love these guys.
Really informative, i hope he gave things about the effects of colors or coatings (hard anodized, chrome rims) on brakes 😬 but this really good!
Hi Alfredo,
Want to ask you a question. I have a 29” SE mike buff fast 💨 ripper and need too know what Maxxis tires are good for all weather climates?

Question: if your switching from single wall to double wall can you use the same length spoke?
Sure can!

From 20x2.0. to 20x2.5 size tire what rim size should I buy.
What if I put a narrow 20inch rim for a 2.3 tyre, does that make the tyre wider?
Could you do a segment on different materials on Bike Frames - What is better ?
Do you still have more of those green rims?
I’m sure epic does

Need to see a review on the eclat carbon fiber carbonic rim
Skyway tuffmags & Z-rims with anodised spokes looked sick but putting them in freezer never worked. I tried.
Hope you teach us how to lace 48holes rim or hub to 32 or 36holes hub or rim. 🙂🙂🙂
Damn, Phu is really a legend, thank both of you!
What about the Shadow Truss rim with centered spokes holes? Does that make them (more) solid?
Do yall build rims for a fast ripper
Will take the doubles, but hey, they look awesome, with a flange hub ...(anodized)....boom....respect 😀
