2:52 Most people won't understand the "ice" reference. In those days, there were "ice men" who would deliver ice on a weekly basis in giant blocks for the ice box (the old style refrigerators). So, this line implies that Mrs Taylor is having an affair with the ice man.
Electric refrigerators were in every home and had been for a long time by the the time this song references. They entered mass production in 1918 and were pretty much in every home by the 30's. I think the phrase use a lot of ice is in reference to drinking alone. Whisky or some other hard liquor on the rocks sort of thing. Perhaps with the mailman. :)
Back in the day when songs had to be 3 minutes or less to get air play the songwriters had to be able to set a stage, tell a story, and wrap it up with precision. Major props to the songwriters of these hits! Too many to mention but Tom T. Hall was one of the best

An absolute gem of a song. Really love that guitar opening. She was the first woman to win entertainer of the Year in country music. This song went to number one on the pop charts. Maybe react Dusty Springfield "Son of a Preacher Man".

My Dad was a chief of police here in Texas when this song was huge. He was patrolling one night and saw a tour bus behind a laundry that was supposed to be closed for the night so, he went in and Jeanie C.
