You need to realize when she said that about a gun it was a different time. Mass shootings never happened. It never even crossed our minds.
Back on the farm in the mid 70's, in high school I could ride around in my pick up truck with a rifle rack mounted across my rear window, and I drove around with a rifle and a shot gun for all the world to see. I was 16. I would park in the middle of town. All my buddies did too.
A different time.
Yes completely different.
Agreed. Back then it was a very different time. Like if you got caught cutting thru people's fields and they saw you, it was very normal for them to fire a shot in the air to scare the bejesus out of you
Back when music told real stories.
Drinking coffee watching Y'all
I'm 54 & I remember hearing the original song when I was a little girl & I loved it & I agree definitely a 10 :) :)
So many people could try to do these songs but couldn't do them justice but her delivery was on point both times
This is, hands down, my favorite reaction to any song! Y'all are some awesome people.
Jeannie C. Riley is best known for her 1968 country & pop hit "Harper Valley PTA". But she had some other songs such as "The Girl Most Likely", "There Never Was A Time," "The Rib," "The Back Side of Dallas," "Country Girl," "Oh Singer," & "Good Enough To Be Your Wife". Later she became a born-again Christian and began recording gospel music during the late 1970's.
I have never heard this!!! 😮 thank you so much for doing the sequel to Harper Valley pta. Love them both!
I saw this video awhile ago. It is great!
Same!!
Never knew there was a second verse. Loved it.
This is what it's like to grow up in a small community
The whole album with the original Harper Valley-written by Tom T Hall is genius music. Every song on it touches my heart, many character's stories are expanded to a whole song of their own. Love it.
Love Tom T Hall, had no idea!
She aged so Beautify!
Country music is known for having some amazing story-telling songs and this is one of the best. You do feel drawn into the story. This and the original are both realistic in so many ways and examines how people can change.
Not always for the better.😱😈😠
Awesome song! Look into the songwriter Tom T Hall. Know as the Storyteller. Another amazing eastern Kentucky artist!
Yes, Tom T. Hall wrote Harper Valley P.T.A., but he had plenty of hits on his own, like the Year That Clayton Delaney Died. And "I Love".
Told u. She bring it Home for real n her day.
Love this song!
When she mentioned a rock n roll album by the Stay Cats they were huge in the 80’s, you guys should check them out. They are considered rock a billy 50’s style music and very good
Especially the stray cat one is my favourite
Australia 💕 Christina
@@christinalikoski4937 stray cat strut, awesome song.

I had a mind block thinking how to spell STRUT🤭🤭😲 at the time

Seen them several times. Loved them since I first saw them on MTV back in 82.

🙏Amen! "Love one another, Don't judge!" Love CONQUERS and Edifies!🥰
just discovered your channel today!!! Such energy & love & you LISTEN to the lyrics!!!!! a huge plus!!!
I didnt know she did a follow up to Harper Valley PTA. I got to hear it for the first time with you two. I think its even better than the first. JMHO
I used to sing that song when I was a little girl. My daddy played the guitar and I'd sing 😊 good memories
Harper Valley was kind of her one hit wonder and then she changed and became a Christian singer, so when she was asked to do return to harper valley she made it a lot nicer and calmer.
You guys just gained a new follower. I love ypur reactions and your live and appreciation for country music!
You two are the greatest
Her song "The girl must likely" is a real point to song.
I didn’t know the song had a sequel!
Wow! I never heard this song before. I have watched you guys from afar and not a patroon, but the story teller of all story tellers is Marty Robbins (21 number 1 hits).
He has a trilogy (3 songs) abour two lovers. He wrote one, ten years later he wrote the second one and ten years later he wrote the third song about how it ended. Tremendous, you will have have so much fun reacting to it, I hope you do.
1. El Paso 2. Feleena 3. El Paso City by Marty Robbins
Thank y'all for this. Stay Blessed and Positive.
I never knew this existed!! Awesome! Where did you find this?? It's like when I first heard Queen of the House after King of the Road!!
Thank You!!
RIP RONNIE SPECTOR OF THE RONETTES, "BE MY BABY"
I was surprised by the news. I definitely have them on my Playlist among others.
Love her song's ❤
OMG THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING & 100 PERCENT TRUTH!!!!!
Boy, this song caused a lot of chatter.
There was a movie, Harper Valley that came out in the late 1970's and Barbara Eden from I dream of Jeannie was the widowed wife. The movie was so successful that they had a tv series or a season. It was funny stuff
I remember that!
Thank you, never new of this one!
It is not originally her song. Tom T. Hall wrote the song. It's partly based on a real lady. But, he actually wrote it and others sang it to.
Both songs were written for Jeannie C Riley by Tom T Hall who was a country singer himself Jeannie became a Christian and eventually remarried to her highschool sweetheart and is in her late 60s or early 70s
That's the reflection on life. She took her eyes off the ball and all the do gooders came in and messed it all up.She wanted a softer ending but had it right the 1st time.
That was the 70's what a time
If you like a story song check out Ray Steven's. The Streak and Mississippi Squirrel Revival are awesome and fun
I believe The Streak came out around the 70's. It was so funny.😁😜😃🔥🔥🔥
Story Telling! Angie Baby by Helen Reddy -and --The Pina Coloda Song by Rupert Homes
This was good back in the day.
Here are the lyrics as there are a few lines that I couldn't make out, so here they are in case some are interested.
Y'all remember Harper Valley
And the Harper Valley PTA
Well, have you ever wondered where they are
And what those folks are doing today?
Now, things have changed a lot
But we all seem to understand things better by and by
Now, my daughter is the mother of two children
At the Harper Valley High
Well, my daughter came to see me
She was selling tickets for the high school dance
I could win a brand new album by some Stray Cats
If I'd only buy a chance
Well, I bought the tickets and the chance
To win a brand new rock 'n' roll LP
And when Friday came
I walked into the place
My dress was well below my knees
Now, Mr. Harper took my ticket
And he smiled at me as sober as a judge
Shirley Thompson
She was there with him
She shook my hand and then gave me a hug
You know, they're married now
And my, they look so happy and contented side by side
And to my surprise
Bobby Taylor never took his eyes off of his wife
Mr. Baker stirred the punch
It was lemonade with nothing on the side
His secretary smiled at me
And said she was so happy as his bride
Widow Jones is dead
She and a young kid missed a curve on Lover's Lane
Mr. Kelley's gone
He drank until they said it took his liver and his brain
Now, the music started up
And it was louder than a thunder storm in May
Well, I stood there and I laughed
To see the way the kids all get their kicks today

Then I saw a man who gave a cigarette
To some small kid too young to smoke
He was a full-grown man and he was set up
In the parkin' lot sellin' dope
Well, I walked around the place
And saw the drummer sniffing powder up his nose
Then I walked out through the parking lot
And saw these kids were takin' off their clothes
They were drinking beer and popping pills
And acting like they were all having fun
I got so mad
I thought at first I'd go back to the house and get a gun
Then I went back to my home
And took my Bible out
And said a little prayer
Now, tomorrow, I can tell 'em that
God loves 'em and I tell 'em that I care
I think back fifteen years ago when
I was wild and wore a mini skirt
Ain't no way I can explain the things I did
And all the people that I hurt
Well, the music keeps on ringing in my ears
And I can hear the drummer's beat
I can see the way things are and I can see
The things the kids are thinking neat
Well, tomorrow afternoon
The PTA'll meet
And I got things to say
To a brand new generation of the Harper Valley PTA
To a brand new generation of the Harper Valley PTA
Thank you,a bit hard to make out some lyrics!
Thanks because i couldn't make out have the song. The music was a little to loud.

Jeannie C. Riley ~ Interview/"Return To Harper Valley" please check this out, harper valley pta was based on truth and so was the follow up
she swears Elvis never died. people in Nashville still talk to him.
They made a movie of the song.
She is a Christian singer I don't think she did too much other than Christian music except for Harper valley and maybe a few other songs so yes I think she wanted to make a positive sequel to The first song you know like everybody is nicer to everybody and just more of a better song thank you for the reaction God bless stay safe bye
Never heard this before , pretty wild ,Thought I hd heard it all
💞💞💞
They made a movie based on this song.
☮️💙🌟
Really good
yep welcome to a small town
I’ve never heard this one!!!
She was talking about her anger and the gun was for the pusher because of his bad influences on the kids....
In the ' late '70s early '80s parents didn't care what you did as a kid as long as you didn't get in trouble with the police. Walking to the store buy your cigarettes your alcohol no questions asked as long as you have the money to pay. The '70s and '80s was a different time then you go chill hang out just come home around 11 or 12 when you had to be in by or your parents left you out to the next day so you were in by the time you had to come home.
Watch the movie....Harper valley pta.....starting Barbara Eden
This was 1984! That tells you a bit of how things were in the 80's.
There is a movie harper Valley PTA good movie to watch.
⭐MY SWEET LORD⭐
George Harrison
💓 Would love U guys to hear it
Australia 💕 Christina
You should listen to her song backside of Dallas, this is another good song.
There is a movie too
I find it ironic that she ends it "Love one another don't judge one another" when she judges everyone throughout her song.
She wasn’t necessarily judging as much as she was telling what she observed going on. It broke her heart that young children the same age as her grandchildren doing things that she, as someone older and wiser, knew would eventually lead to sorrow and heartache or worse. That was my take on it anyhow
A lot of people used to hide pistols in their Bibles; I'm just saying.
Jeannie C. Riley sounds EXACTLY like Reba McEntire.
Gray Stewart.....she acting single
I would love if you reviewed Joan Biaz “Diamonds and Rust. 70s are the best. This was great!
Theirs also another one called Mr. Harper idk if it has anything to do with the Harper valley p.t.a songs i’ve never heard it but i’m about to
🤣🤣🤙
Tom t Hall wrote this it is a true story.
Tom wrote the original, but Jeanie wrote this follow up version in an effort to reform Mrs. Johnson after Jeanie became ultra religious in her later years.
You need to watch the movie
She reminds me so much of Reba McEntire.
Loretta Lynn did this song too
Ok you might like LENE LOVICH The song My Lucky numbers one.
Do you know there is a song about almost all the people from the og. Harper valley ie widow jones and sipping sherly johnson
Listen to Marie Lavoie by Bobby bare
The stuff from 15 years ago had improved, but there was new stuff going on that was worse.
johnny cash the ballad of ira hayes
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinking Indian
Or the marine that went to war
Rod Stewart.......Maggie may
I'm wondering if anybody's ever heard of Dave?
If you want a good song by Jennie Riley look at Run Jennie Run
I'm not too thrilled with this version because even though she does gospel music now I just think they should have left the original song alone. Reminds me of movies that have way too many sequels.
This isn’t the original song.
its a follow upto the original after she migrated to more christian based music..
Never liked part 2 !!
