    I just bought the 2023 model from my local dealer last week. This is our first camper. Thank you Josh for the great videos. They really helped decide on which one to purchase.

    Have so many fond memories when I was a kid in the 1970's of my my Parents taking us all over the U.S. and camping in a popup. Loved having all the windows zipped down feeling the breeze at night when we slept.

      There is something about the night air coming through a tent or pop up that just can't be reproduced in RV or home.

    A very nice pop up. I grew up with pop up campers. Im so glad they are still being made.

  • @stevenelson8560

    I gotta admit I love the open feel of a tent at night, this has more room and is much more convenient with not having to load and unload a tent, setup would be quicker as well. The biggest draw back to these is like a tent, you don't want to put them away wet, and when you do you'll want to put them back up to air out and dry.

    Finally a manufacturer builds a modern pop up that can be towed by folks who do not want to invest in large haulers. I see so many post in forums by people stating they want a camper but want to tow with their Sienna or Highlander or what have you. This fits the bill for a market that gets overlooked.
    Great job Uncle Josh profiling this system!

      Our pleasure!! Rockwood just keeps rolling along in this market. They're *nearly* unopposed in the folding camper market nowadays

    • @stevenelson8560
      @stevenelson8560 3 роки тому

      Pop ups are for people who camp, the folks wondering what they can tow with a CUV want a 300 foot mobile community that weighs 2200 pounds and has a built in hot tub with roof top swimming pool. They don't want to camp, they want to tow a hotel room around.

      I know the market was over saturated in the late 90s and early 2000s; but there were some brands out there that had some nice floorplans. I miss them.

    Josh, season a pop-up or hybrid, that's just another thing that the dealer forgot to tell us about our hybrid. Second time out it rained like no tomorrow, the ends leaked, closed up in 15 minutes and back home. I did what you said without knowing and now we are fine, Thanks

    That’s gotta be the classiest pop up I’ve seen yet. Don’t know if I could talk the significant other into it though. I wish the fridge were a bit bigger though. It looks like the size of an electric cooler... which might be okay for a day or two.

    • @stevenelson8560
      @stevenelson8560 3 роки тому +3

      Something about drinks on ice, and they make some good electric fridge/freezer coolers. Either way, with a family or long stays that fridge is going to require you to bring along coolers of some sort, its camping, you'll figure how to adapt.

    I just picked mine up yesterday, got it set up in the driveway. Mine came with solar, it actually does a pretty good job keeping the battery topped off. No bathroom, no problem. I bought the Joolca Nomad with the double shower tent. That works great and it's hot water on demand!

    This is a great first camper! I do love that it "still feels like camping", it's small and manageable, still sleeps 4, very few frills- but the ones it does have are great and very useful.
    I like the solar prep, the 3-way fridge, the portable stove and table (as we'd be using them outside mostly anyway), the windows all around for airflow, natural light and outside view, the white, reflective roof. That A.C. option is a nice upgrade for when it's oppressively hot, (especially factory installed/ warranted), and a furnace for uncomfortably chilly nights. I love the heated mattresses! I get so cold at night up in the mountains. This would save us some blankets and help me sleep better, I bet. (Plus, how cozy and relaxing is it to climb into a nice warmed bed?!)
    I, personally, like green more than orange for the paint accents, but that really doesn't matter at all. (As long as the whole thing isn't orange, lol.)
    Thank you for talking about seasoning. I don't know how I ever would have learned that.

    Just picked up our '22 1940LTD yesterday. Was surprised it didn't come with a 3-way fridge but a 12v only but we got the roof solar so should be fine as long as there's enough sun to offset the fridge and lights use. We also got the duel propane tanks and a griddle so will be learning to cook on the flat surface on our first camping trip next month. I also found it strange that the gas line that is supposed to be available inside or out was blocked off from the countertop opening hole. The walkthru guy told me that he was finding that more often from Forest River so they had to drill a hole thru the connecting cabinet opening so the line could be pulled thru when needed inside. Next, I'll be practicing backing it since it's been years and my backing skills went away...lol. Thank goodness the 1940LTD is light enough that we pushed it into the garage by hand. Always love your videos!

      Question. The outside of the camper has an upper and lower fridge vents. There is a 2"×2" horizontal piece of wood in-between the vents. Is this piece structural or just for framing the fridge vents? Any info or who to contact to find out would help. If I can make this happen, I will send pictures of my mods to my pop-up if you're intrested.

    This is pretty close to the exact same thing we started with not long ago.
    It was in the 90's when we decided to get back out and enjoy now that the kids were getting to the age to enjoy it as well when I found a used Tenter and brought it home.
    That weekend was our first to get back and addiction took over worse than any drug could do to us.
    It only took a season to realize how much it would be nice to have a place to sit in the middle of the night when nature has called.
    The High Low lasted a season as well.
    Then the diesel pusher.
    Then the 33' pull behind until today...
    Looking for the full time, in the 40s range to pull behind the dually/cummins with a Duramax in the future sights......
    Like many have said....
    Buy bigger than you think you need. It'll save you a bunch of money!

      Something I have always done and teach to new salespeople when I can is intentionally start with a camper smaller than what they person wants. Then slowly start stepping up in size. Once you hit the point they feel it's "too much" go back one step and that's where they'll be happier longer

    Having spent the majority of my summer vacations as a kid (ages 0-19) in pop-ups; I just dont like some of the things I see in the newer models.... First 9 years of my life my family was using an old 1970s era Starcraft about the same size as this I would say. The ratchet crank was in the same location, and wasnt covered by a shield at all. After that was sold my parents purchased new 1998 Coleman Fleetwood Mesa, and I remember the day we picked up from the dealer in Carlise PA because the salesman took me around it and showed me hands on how to set it up for mum and dad. Both of those campers.... and other popup makers were usually pretty good about keeping the stove and sink on the same side in the swinging galley, and having the dinette on the opposite side. Neither one had fridges, or AC; heck the Colemand only had heat installed 4 years after we bought it when we also needed brakes installed for a cross country trip to Washington. The cooler nook under the counter with a hatch to the outside is still something I WISH would make a return on new campers today.

    Awwwwesome video. Especially the staring contest. Lol.
    So, with this roof space and thinking of solar, bike racks, and AC do we think one must choose maybe, 2 of 3 but not all 3? Seems like it would get too congested with all three but I could squint and maybe see 2x bike mounts on either side of the AC then solar in front of the AC? Thoughts?

    I'd pay an extra thousand bucks-ish if they did a multi-layer somewhat insulated fabric that didn't transmit light. Nice to town behind a smallish Jeep up into the high country. Pass on the power lift. Cranking them up is not that bad and saves weight. Needs one large cabinet for a roll out porta-potti. My wife won't check out a bush like me.

    • @arleneslimmon1858
      @arleneslimmon1858 3 роки тому +3

      Good Point regarding the porta potty. We glamming women need a little comfort. Also want to point out that it’s easy to remove the ac and add a vented ceiling fan. Open all flaps and Wonderful fresh breeze flows through. No need to annoy your (nature loving) neighbours with ac noise. Less weight and works great with solar.

  • @bradbowles1153
    @bradbowles1153 Рік тому

    We bought this model a couple of months ago (2023). It has a lot of counter space compared to other models and it is light enough to tow with our 2017 Toyota Sienna with weight capacity left over to carry equipment. It is just a basic and simple pop up - cheap to operate and maintain. The first thing I did was remove the Powerwinch. It is a breakdown waiting to happen and it is super noisy. It relies on a good battery to operate and it has relays and limit switches that can and will go bad. You can manually crank the winch in the event of a malfunction with a power drill and socket but it takes 10 times as long. I installed a Goshen DLB1200A manual winch and it only takes about 45 seconds to crank up the roof. I would have rather had a manual winch from the factory with a standard gas griddle in lieu of the Powerwinch and gas 2 burner stove. Most RV manufacturers have gone away from 3 way refrigerators since 2022 in favor of 12 VDC models only so boondocking will require battery power with solar charging or a gas generator. Build quality is good at this price point but like everything else the prices have increased dramatically since 2020.

    You know what would maybe be a nice alternative to that little 3 way fridge? 12 volt chest fridge. Have it on a slide out tray under the counter. Faster cooling, bigger and actually easier to get stuff out of. That absorption fridge is so close to the floor that it's hard to get things out of if you are standing. Plus they are crazy efficient two batteries and 100 to 200 watts of solar on the roof and you can run one plus your lights and fans indefinitely without shore power as long as you have sunshine.
    Edit: I don't mean this unit specifically. I was just wondering why I have never seen anything other then the conventional absorption fridge, ice box or one of those terrible TEC coolers in a popup given the explosion in popularity of 120 volt and then 12 volt compressor fridges.

    I was originally looking at one of these as we had a Jeep wrangler but decided against as there are no walls. Im glad we went with a Jayco 19 jayflight STX. We were just camping in Jetty park in Cape canaveral with 40 degree temps Christmas week Brrrrrrr. Folks next to us had this Rockwood I know they had to be cold. We didn't see them come out at all the all week and a few of us Rvers met and socialized Christmas eve. I admit we were all loud during the day just talking and laughing with several families from Chicago and Maryland. The Rockwood family called security on us at pm for being too loud. I get it it we were right next to them in a crowded campground and they have no walls. They is the only drawback the noise. But this is perfect for not so cold temps and not crowded on top of each other campgrounds.

      I thought that most people knew that proper, truck and trailer pairing is key to traveling safely.
      As I look around in the campgrounds and on the hiways, this sadly is not the case.
      You address all things regarding trailers with a comical tone.
      I have seen you talk about Tow capacity and Load capacity.
      Sadly Load Capacity is something so many people pass right over with very little regard.
      UA-cam channels are full of people dagerously figuring that Airbags and Equalizer hitches will increase their load capacity and solve all their towing problems or towing issues.
      So many uninformed folks are giving such unsafe advice to newbe RV ers.
      You are a pretty trusted person as far as knowing the ins and outs of the RV world.
      Someone really needs to make a graph and a chart regarding the safe to not safe zones as far as weight, brakes, axels, bearings, steering racks, transmission coolers and full frame vehicals as opposed to unibody vehicals are concerned.
