    At closing in on 66 I’m learning to ride the OneWheels and added an electric scooter to accompany my OneWheeling family on their longer adventures. My daughter taught me on both a Pint and the XR at a soccer field to start, full safety equipment certainly decreases the anxiety of falling, but the same increase in confidence occurred with my 8 year old grand once she had her properly sized gear. And I agree with your Mom, stretching before riding really helps with flexibility.

    I'm soon to be 74 years old & have 200 plus miles carving on my Pint in the first four months after getting it. Okay, it helps that I used to surf, in-line skate, ice skate & still ride my skateboard. I also use more safety gear than I would have as a younger person. Getting comfortable going backwards was a challenge, but I'm there now. Not for everyone I know, but I sure love it!

    Way to go Grandma Chang! I taught my mom, to ride too! She's a grandma and 67!
    I find the "jump to get off" method risky since some people have a hard time jumping evenly with both feet so the board can take off underneath them. What I tell people instead is to roll all the way back on their heels so the board slides onto its side.

    • @freshlycharged

    @JimmyChang
    Sir, this video is a year old today, and I am watching this now. To let you know it was because of your video's that I did buy a OneWheel Pint, on the Black Friday Sale(2019). To that end I have received my Pint, and I have been practicing my balancing on the unit.
    To note: new OneWheel riders, the Grip Tape is VERY rigid, so make sure you wear a shoe that is good at supporting your ankles. Also, the Pint does not come with a CUSTOM mode on the app, so start off in Redwood Mode at first, this will help with injury prevention while you learn. Also make sure to enable/leave SimpleStop on.
    Also for those who are nearing the 40 year old mark (like me) and/or on the husky side (again like me) this mode is great for getting you outdoors and moving. But do take note that at 230lbs, and 5'5 I find it hard to dismount with the jump. So, I enable the slow down tactic, and engage the pushback to help me stop. Yes I have already taken a tumble, so just make sure you are wearing:
    Helmet
    Wrist
    Elbow
    Knee
    Protective equipment.
    Also as this will be used with a backpack, I make sure to have my backpack on when I am riding so I will know the difference when riding. This helps a lot with my balance.
    In closing I want to thank you for all the videos that you make, it really is very helpful for me to learn to live the FLOATLIFE>

    I've never understood dominant foot goes in the back. If your dominant foot is the right foot, then shouldn't that be your lead foot? It's the foot you put forward. I've always rode my skateboard and now my Onewheel with my right foot in front as it feels more natural this way; because if I were to fall, or kick a ball, my right foot would be in front.

      The video is wrong. Dominant right foot means you’re “goofy” foot so your right foot goes in the front. He rides his backwards I guess.

      Very astute pick up! She has had a toe problem for months and has seem a number of specialists with no success. She finds that cutting open the top of her shoes right at that area helps to relieve the pain.
