  • A step by step video on how I whitened a black bear skull.
Learned a lot along the way as it was my first bear skull.
I will take you through my learning experience and show you what to expect when certain techniques are applied! The good and the bad;)

Looks good man! I boil mine for maybe an hour though. 4hrs is why the teeth fell out and jaw split. Just a heads up.

I put my skinned skulls under a milk crate out back of my property for the fall and into the spring. Then do the cleaning up. Way less work .. awesome job BTW. 👏

good job. a couple things I did with mine was soak in a bath of water dish soap oxy clean as well as baking soda over night. then boil in water soap and baking soda. that cut the boil time way down my spring bear this year only took 1 and half hrs to boil. I then washed removed all the meat, and finally soaked in oxyclean for a good 24 hrs. the skull came out white only thing is the teeth didn't bleach. once again thanks for all the great videos

Hi Curtis, this sounds like a good idea, reducing the boiling time would be perfect. I'll give it a shot with my next bear:) thanks

i know this is old but a week in some acetone on bears and pigs will suck that oil rite out of a skull and 100% will not hurt it even works wonders on older yellowed skulls

I do not understand how you got aileens super tacky to bond the jaw open.. I have used Gorrilla gel, I have tried E6000 epoxy and even after 24 hour cure time The top still wants to close.

Did the trick, I’ve used it on a couple wood projects when I ran out of wood glue.
It’s still on the wall with no issues.
I also keep it in a room with low humidity, may be a factor?

To be honest I have only used the Aileens gel clear stuff and I have had zero luck with it on even Foam. I went and grabbed a bottle of the original today after seeing your video and am presently cleaning the glue off the old skull. Ill keep you posted!

Grabbed some of the Aileens original, made a quick jig and it worked! Thanks again sir.

It’s definitely not the glue of choice;) it’s all I had at the time in the middle of the project. It holds up surprisingly well if the surface is clean of excess grease and dust. Keeping the project stable in a jig is the most important;)

I boil at home the take them right to the carwash and pressure wash all the meat off works great. Just be mindful of the soft people of the world and keep it low lol
