    Just a bit of info from a professional pilot on AHRS. It is a self-contained reference system for stabilization information. They work in 3 axis, exactly the same way our older physical gyros worked. They not only use accelerometer to detect rotational motion in the horizontal axis (compass), they also detect motion in the pitch and yaw axis not just cardinal direction.

    I am from Quebec Canada.The species we fish
    is the speckled trout, the characteristic of this one is that it is held in less than 30 feet.The main technique to catch it is by trolling with a spoon followed by a hook with a worm.
    Of course it is quite rare with my Humminbird
    Mega Live G2N Si to distinguish these specimens even with the traditional sounder because as soon as one approaches them the shadow of the boat makes them flee immediately.In these circumstances if I acquire a Garmin GPSMAP 1222 with Panoptix Livescope System Touchscreen Chartplotter an investment of 4310 $ Canadian that can give me a certain advantage in the capture of this trout

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  2 роки тому

      @Fred Jacob yes this would help because you could rotate the transducer to try to find the fish when they spook. Just double check the GPSMAP 1222 you are looking at is touchscreen. They make a non touchscreen model as well which is a little cheaper. Unless it's a used one you are looking at $2300 sounds like this might be the non touchscreen

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 років тому

      You will have much higher detail images, but in all honesty its probably not that much of an upgrade for that style of fishing. If you are fishing structure or more stationary (like in bass fishing) this will have the biggest benefit.

      Lawren Wetzel Thats awesome. Hey ive got a critical question for u. On my dads walleye boat we have an lowrance hds 7 gen 3 with the totalscan transducer. Tye gps without a module is unbelievable how crisp and responsive it is when you turn. No lag whatsoever. So ive been really interested in buying one and putting on the console of my bass boat and just buying a transducer and switching my dads unit between boats. My question.... does the lowrance elite ti have as good of a gps as the hds? Because its alot cheaper and i could possibly get a 9 inch then. Youve used alot of units so im just wondering if u know about the gps differences. Thanks

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  6 років тому

      They both use a 10hz GPS receiver in them. I think a Gen3 and Elite Ti would be compatible. Either way you go though I would recommend using a Point-1 antenna that has the compass in it for the most accurate positioning on your screen.

    So maybe you can answer this. When using Panoptix and you see the fish swimming say 40’ from the boat, are they directly in front of the boat, 30 degrees off of the boat, 90 degrees off to the side of the boat etc.? If the fish are exactly in front of the boat I kinda find fishfinders somewhat useless because fish are gone by the time you throw your lure there and it sinks. Is there any technology that would tell you where exactly in a semicircle where the fish are?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 роки тому

      This will work the same as a traditional sonar unit. The difference is the transducer is mounted to a pole (or trolling motor) that you can rotate to follow the fish as they swim to get an idea of where they are. Check out my video on the new Perspective mode this has and that will give you your semi ciricle

    • @InDepthSonar

    Thanks for the info. I have a boat in Canada for summer freshwater fishing and one in Florida for winter saltwater fishing. Both with MinnKota Ulterra motors. Is this system something I can easily switch seasonally from one boat to another?? And would you mount the transducer on the Ulterras??
    BTW, when you talk about forward scan, I guess it's in whatever direction your trolling motor is pointing?? If you put it in anchor mode, it will move side to side quite a bit, which means, your forward viewpoint changes continuously??

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 роки тому +1

      Yes it is all relative to the position your motor is facing. Some people will mount the transducer on a secondary pole they can manually move to not have to deal with the problems you mentioned with spotlock.
      I personally wouldn't mount a transducer on an Ulterra due to the risk of damaging the cable when it stows/deploys but you may be able to come up with something to help reduce this risk

      Im still waiting on them making this stuff affordable.. like i can get better hardware (like tablet hardware for 20% of the cost) Id rather buy a 300 dollar ipad and mount it then buy a 1200 dollar 9'' screen thats not even in HD res.. and has slow processing.. Also spend a extra 2k on transducer hardware is also a bit much.. they should just make open software.. and make the ducer stream the signal via bluetooth to any phone/device.. Its like these companies are too small to make the tech that is atleast on a level with the stuff that is out there already.. they are always like 10 years behind.. Id love to have panoptix though.. but not for 3K+ euros

I fish mainly fly ins and like the look of the Quickdraw function and was going to buy a Striker 7SV but after watching your video am wondering if an EchoMap Plus 75sv plus panoptix transducer and Large Ic kit battery provide Quickdraw and LiveScope functionality in a portable unit? 2. would you know if you can create maps with Quickdraw whilst using sonar when fishing/trolling?

      Yes you could do that with the EMP75SV. Quickdraw works best at trolling speeds to map accuracy. The Striker is a good unit if you just want a basic fish finder, but I would say go for the echomap Plus if you can. Even if you don't get the LiveScope right away, you can always add it down the road!

    Hello Lawren,
    Contemplating getting a livescope unit. How do you like the Echo map uhd 93sv and the livescope transducer GLS 10 with LVS 32 combination? I can live with the 9" monitor. Any suggestions?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 роки тому

      I would really try to get into the GPSMAP series. The echomap are decent units but the resolution isn't as good as a 7608 or a 942 for example. Or the Echomap Ultra 102 has a good resolution screen as well. Either way you go though a EMU93SV with the LiveScope is going to be better than not having LiveScope.

    Nice video. I was wondering if livescope would be a good option to fish for walleye on the St-Lawrence river ? Lots of current and big tides. Continuous back trolling. Also just bought 2 ECHOMAP 95sv plus with the CV52HW-TM transducer. What is the difference between the GT52 transducer? Finally would that be a good setup? Thanks.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 років тому

      CV52 doesn't have down imaging in it. It takes the inside of the side imaging beams to create a down imaging image. The GT52 has a dedicated down imaging element in it, so you get true down imaging.
      That would be a great setup for the LiveScope, just get the GMS10 as well to allow you to plug in the LiveScope to your Network

    i also verticle jig at 150' often, im curious if you will be able to see a 3oz jig that far down?
    i will have to mount the ducer to the transom, so im curious if that negatively impacts the livescope sysem?
    is it easy to adjust ducer from foreward to down?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 роки тому

      Trolling won't be the best with LiveScope of you are reverse mounting it. It would be better to use the wider angle, less detail, PS30 for that. A 3oz jig in 150' should be fine on the LiveScope

How would the echomap plus 93sv that is 400x800 pixels compare for the livescope. • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 років тому

      It's noticable if you have used a 7600 series unit. The resolution and processor speed is the main reason to go to the 7600, but at the cost difference the 7600 is hard to swallow for those two features. Most people I know run the LiveScope on the echomaps and are very happy

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 років тому +1

      No it is still very useful. You get CHIRP (for high speed use, and vertical fishing), ClearVu which is their Down Imaging (for weedlines and other vertical structure), and SideVu for scanning structure left and right of the boat. The LiveScope will be best for scanning ahead of the boat or to a very specific piece of structure that you are casting to. Its also somewhat going to replace the CHIRP sonar for vertical fishing in the Down mode. You'll want to buy the 93SV with the transducer in my opinion.

    • @InDepthSonar

      I would recommend a GPSMAP 7600 XSV unit or GPSMAP XS unit. If you are only going to use the unit for the Panoptix then the XS units will be fine. If you are going to use it as the main unit on your boat then I would look at the 7600 XSV units as they will have multiple transducer ports on them for CHIRP, DownVu and SideVu.

      Just wanting it up front for the livescope!

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  6 років тому +2

      Yeah, then go with a GPSMAP 742XS, 942XS or 1242XSV Touch. They are all the same, but the first number is the screen size. Also the 1242 will allow you to plug in a all in one transducer with SideVu, where as the 742 and 942 will only allow a CHIRP and DownVu transducer. SideVu requires an external module. So if in the future you want a transducer on it its something to consider

      Waves will effect it to an extent. If you are using the AHRS then that will compensate for it and won't distort the image much
      The problem in windy conditions comes with the trolling motor. Imagine you are facing north and the wind is coming right at you. The object you want to look at with Panoptix is to the east. So now you have to move the trolling motor to the right to point the transducer at the object you want to see. This causes you to no longer be able to hold in the wind as you motor is pointing another direction.
      The problem with Panoptix in windy conditions is more of a boat control issue than anything else

    If you are still replying to this post, I have a few questions for you. Looking to get a livescope but I'm not a bass or musky guy and don't use a trolling motor that much. I'd like to get the livescope as my main locator in the back of my boat. I run a tiller and it would be my main unit. Does anyone use it like this? also, can you run a mapping chip in these and use split screen for map and livescope. If so, I could use it for my main locator. I don't have room to run two units in the back. a 12 inch screen would be about my max.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 років тому

      I wouldn't recommend LiveScope as your only transducer. The unit you select should also have a CHIRP transducer at minimum. You'll need this for high speed use. The second reason is that the LiveScope transducer would cause a large amount of drag when transom mounted and could be strain on the transducer/mount/hull. You can transom mount them as long as you have a way to lift them out of the flow of water at speed.

      Ensure the unit and LiveScope software is up to date, you have good voltage to the unit and module and all connections are seated corrected. Beyond that its probably a defective transducer or module

      Even if your chart plotter & livescope/LVS 32 or 12 is right out of the box brand new, you will need to update software in both chart plotter & livescope. With Active Captain you can perform the update right off your cellphone using either wifi or cellular data. I fish Toledo Bend (in the boonies between Texas & Louisiana so that makes it especially convenient to be able to use cellular data.

    I wish Garmin made a little bigger screen I am spoiled with my Solix 10 and 12 screen at a fait to equal price.

      The echomap Ultra 10" and 12" are pretty comparable to the Solix 10 and 12 units price wise

    How much total

    Hi, quick question. I have the livescope mounted on the back of the boat. In auto, it chooses forward view so I cam see front of the boat. In your video you mention that in order to use down view on the trolling motor you must rotate the transducer. Is it same when the transducer is mounted behind the boat? Thanks

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  6 років тому

      Yes you will have to rotate the transducer even when on the back. The auto mode in the unit just detects what position it is in so you don't have to manually change it in the menu. In auto mode, once the unit gets a bottom lock it will automatically change.

      Lawren Wetzel thanks! Just to make sure are you indicating that I should unscrew the sensor and rotate it 180 degrees horizontally and fasten it back in the mount or change the inclination of the transducer until I get a bottom lock?

    • @arnaudmaye8498
      @arnaudmaye8498 6 років тому

      Nevermind I cannot rotate it of 180 degrees it is not mechanically possible. I will change the inclination

      I just looked through the install manual again and looks like for transom mount you only have the one orientation. On a trolling motor you can have 3 positions depending if it is mount Port or Starboard and using Forward or Down. For transom mount though they just list the one option.

    Looks great for freshwater guys..not so much for deep water salt guys who don't have a trolling motor

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 років тому

      It is designed for bass fishing so yeah not going to be great in saltwater if you don't have a trolling motor.

    Any idea how wide the view is? For example, if I'm in Livescope Forward view, my grid tells me forward distance & depth, but what is the width of that view?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 років тому

      It is 20° wide so you'd have to do the math based on the distance away from the transducer.

      Nope and doesn't sound like they will in 2020 either. They have decided to stick with the 360 imaging platform which has some benefits over the Panoptix.

    Wonder if fish can sense this?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  5 років тому

      Pretty unlikely as it doesn't seem to bother them like traditional sonar in the 50-1200kHz range. You'd have to find out what frequency their lateral line senses to determine if it would or not

      Watching the videos it doesn’t seem to effect them as much as boat control does.
