For anyone wondering, I'm able to use the Star Adventurer 2i (default wedge) with an ASIair with that nice polar aligning and image solving features, a D5300 astro-modded and dual narrowband filter, along with an autoguider and a Skywatcher 72 ED. I'm getting 5 minutes subs with no trails using that east heavy technique presented by George. Cheers!
Thanks for the video. Having owned the Star Adventurer for about 9-10 months, I can say I absolutely HATE the polar alignment. It is a true knee and neck crusher, and the trinket polar reticle illuminator is a true pile of junk. I am looking at alternatives such as the ASIAir. The SA base is sloppy too, as mentioned.
@@82miken Thanks Mike. I am trying to wrap my head around how it works, and I need to know if I need to have internet access for the ASIAir to work. As best as I can tell from YT videos and written documentation, all I need (if I want a wireless connection) is a phone or tablet that can access the Wi-Fi built into the ASIAir. Is this correct?
I have the Star Adventurer 2i and haven't had any issues with connecting the App! I hardly ever use the App as I only use my star tracker for tracked Milky way Panoramas
Star adventurer 2i here. I've had problems with the app as well, and ended up having to do a factory reset on mine as well after using it. I just use a hotshoe mounted intervalometer now.
I got a deal on an iOptron Sky Guider Pro. got mine new complete kit ( no ipolar ) NEW for 250.00. I haven't noticed any slop in the mount and once it's balanced and on target doing another polar align it does really well.
For photographing the 2024 total eclipse, what setup would you recommend? It doesn't look like the iPolar can solar align. What options are there for solar alignment?
What people do is setup their rig the night before or before sunrise and leave it setup. Then swing it around to the sun. Obviously, guiding won't be an option with no stars out, but any rig will work for tracking the 🌞.
First time tracker buyer not sure on which one to buy? Have watched many videos and still not sure not a young person and polar ailment will be an issue. Any help would be grateful. Thank you
In the video, both Mike (uses Star Adventurer) and I (Skyguider with iPolar) agreed the Skyguider Pro is the way to go if you have the iPolar because you do alignment by looking at the computer screen and you can check the alignment through the night without coming off target.

SA 2i here! Works great! Dithering is a plus, and with some effort, you can add manual GoTo functionality…

You can't beat that deal. As you get experience, you can always add an iPolar if you choose.
