- I had to make my own stair nosing because the manufacturer did not make them. Plus, it's a lot more work to do the stair nosing myself. It's just a little more work, but it looks nice.

Great video, just did my own with some Coretec flooring. I wanted a more square profile compared to the round stair nose the company offers, and this was the perfect solution. This was also a lot cheaper than what they offer, so it was a win-win. Subbed for future home DIY videos!

I keep hearing from my flooring friends that Ardex CA20P multipurpose construction adhesive / sealant is far superior to any other in this application. Can anyone confirm? I was just going to use loctite premium max but apparently it doesn’t have the same level of flexibility that is required.

How do you do the side profile of the stairs like the bottom 2 treads?

Mohawk, the manufacturer of that LVP, says you must remove the underlayment layer prior to glueing on stairs.

Could you tell me a bit about the heat gun that you used? What brand/ setting.

On the table saw it shows 3/8, is that the width of the slots or the depth that the blade goes in the plank? Thank you great work!!

This is great, in the process of doing my stairs as well. Love the "modern" style treads. What is the thickness of the face? 2"?

how did yo finish the exposed edge just above where you but the lights? i have an edge like that on my stairs and I cant figure out how to cover it.
I just use heat gun to folded it and epoxy and match up paint. Be patient….

We just used regular plank for nosing bended. by the way use cardboard to make mockup, and thanks for the visit.
Was looking for a video like this, my floors have different color variations and nothing pre-made was available.
Why didn't you install risers first? Does it matter?

How did you cap the side of the exposed nosing?
Bended it first then cut miter and use epoxy at the miter. They are required more time but doable.

Great work and video. Two questions I'd like to ask. 1. Can I do the same "folded" nosing like you did with luxury vinyl plank? What is the minimum thickness of the plank that is needed for this? 2. What material did you use for the riser (white board)?

1. My vinyl plank is 0.2” And I think any vinyl plank can be fold with heat and patience.
2. For riser I used 1/2” MDF but you can use pine or even plywood.

very nice. do you have a video on how you did the side of the nosing to close them in? I have the same situation but haven't seen how you would close is the side of a tread open to one side.
Thanks. On the sides are exactly the same as the front bend them first then cut miter and epoxy together. I made mock up out of cardboard first, be patient.

After bending, did you fill any material at those corners? I am thinking maybe I will fill with glue sticks. What can be best material for it?
Also I really don’t like gluing tread to wood. Can I just use 18ga nail? It won’t be such visible.

Oh just like all the treads, but the last 2 have bullnose both sides.

Bend the pieces and put in the oven at 300 degrees, i just tried this last night and it works phenomenal, they do not wrinkle

My stair tread’s are 1” thick. So when when the final bend are 1” open. I recommend you to do a mock up and be patient. Good luck.

There are companies that specialize in this. You Send then the material and they make the pieces into the bullnose shape lol. Customer is paying for that of course 😅

If the customer is satisfied and the job is quality whats the difference in technique. It isn't electrical or plumbing.

I'm a professional flooring installer and I see major issues with this technique for one you're cutting slices in it and there is empty voids on the stair nosing part on both bottom and top corners which weakens the floor and will fail after a while number two is you're using the incorrect glue you should be using loctite PL premium polyurethane adhesive ! I've been doing flooring and staircases for over 25 years so I would say I have some experience .
Thanks for advice. There are no voids, I made dado and rabbet to joints. Loctite PL will not stick to under pad.
@@ToaiLonDIY for one you're not supposed to have the underlayment attached to the plank when you glue it to the step it should be just the blank plank glued to the step . The padding has to be removed with a heat gun and peel it off or order it without the padding for the steps . As a flooring contractor I'm liable if the stairs fail and somebody goes falling down the stairs so that's why I take extra precaution and have the material without the padding solidly glued to the staircase that way there's no risk of it coming loose and you're not depending on some cheap padding that's got double-sided tape glued to the back of it . Also you didn't even clean off the paint and other junk that's on the stair before you glued it on the step so basically you just counting on the glue on the paint not the actual step . So if the paint starts peeling off the glue will fail and the step will fail .

Thanks for advice again, this was my first attempt i did remove all of the paints, the under pad came with the planks. If they failed I will trim off the nose so they are square.
Since your a professional how would you of done the stairs with LVP?

I think Vinyl, Laminate, and hardwood are all dangerous on stairs. I know carpets are dirty. I think using a easily replaceable carpet runner may be the best way to go. You only have to fall down from a slippery stairs once to realize carpet is the safest option. Since permanent carpet is too hard to replace therefore I recommend a runner option.
Thats why graspable handrails are required in the IRC.
@@gutrench9489 handrail does help. The last time I fell on a slippery stairs is when I was holding box with both hands while the box was big enough to block my eye sights. In that case, the hand raild did not help a bit. So on top of a good hand rail, you should really consider a non slip carpet option.

I have slid down stairs with carpets and never since installing laminate stairs.

Nice attention to detail but Give it 6 months to a year and the thin edges will break. The stair nosing takes all the punishment on a stair. Not just an option been doing flooring for more than 30 years.
