Baguazhang, is one of the most famous traditional Chinese martial arts. The more we understand how the movement is used in original practical application (fighting), it will be easier to know proper way to practice.
In this video, the students practice the routine and application of the First palm ----- Single Change Palm, and the Fifth palm ---- Retracting Palm.
In Cheng style Baguazhang, the first three palms are basically the same, or with little difference. That is because Mr. Cheng Tinghua passed it down when he was alive, so we also commonly call it the "Old Three Palms". Although the names of the following five palms are the same or with little difference, the successors from different places have practiced them differently, or even completely different, because the successors have integrated what they have learned from other martial arts.
