    Agreed, however, some will do a literal cut-and-paste review with some nice words like "excellent" or "on point" thrown in because they are getting freebies and they know positive reviews generate more freebies and more content... it also builds a relationship with particular brands that can be exploited...
    The other side of the coin is brands using intimidation and even legal threats to gag negative reviews...
    Another thing worth mentioning is reviewers "buying" followers, it's another problem... again a certain Canadian YT channel was caught out with this, as well as a very popular UK-based one too.

    I think there's a valid point here but there's a bigger debate to be had. Unfortunately it goes beyond a review of the product being reviewed. The growth of SM and the detailing scene has created a monster in reviews and there is now a cross over to creating influencing content that's either paid or for free products based on a relationship built with the brand or supplier or in many cases the addiction of the creater for followers and interaction. It becomes about them and not the product or detailing......it's a look at me me me culture!!
    You are correct in terms of product exposure by the supplier but no supplier esp small brands wants negative reviews. I understand why and how this can be damaging to a brand but that's part of being a product producer is it not? What a review needs to be is balanced, well articulated, honest backed up by good evidence. A good trusted reviewer will have a library of reviews that will demonstrate this. Unfortunately theres plenty out there now where this isn't happening! Copy and pastes and waffle about it being great, excellent, on point or game changing doesn't inspire me or build trust that it's genuine.
    A good review will have in most cases positive and negatives and demonstrate in the case of the reviewer it maybe hasn't worked for them in said circumstances. A reviewer that only posts positive reviews is a red light for me. You can't hide behind the claim " if it's no good I won't review it". Take Nick Gillywash or GM details for example....trusted, honest and genuine. Posts good reviews with plenty of negatives about a product. Lots of evidence and content to back it up. I know the reviewers I trust and I follow plenty.

    Great video Specky! I personally, as a viewer, always watch multiple reviews of the same product, because of the same reason you mentioned in this video: every person is different, every circumstance is different, every personality is different. Thus, a good few reviews later, I will have a rough idea what to expect from that certain product.
    A month ago or so, I read a post about the following subject: “who should call themselves a reviewer” or something similar. I don’t want to go too deep in to this, because there are different point of views from everyone. The main thing is that, after I was thinking about it for a while, I cane to the point and decided: I’m not falling in to the “category” of being a reviewer. I believe that a person’s personality influences a review in such different ways, however, I don’t think that it’s a bad thing at all. Overall, from this perspective, my videos fall more into demonstration kind “reviews” so I leave them as is.
    I have such a positive thinking when it comes to a product, meaning I often judge a product on the good things rather than the not so good things. Although, it doesn’t mean I don’t say what I dislike, but I’m always aiming to tell as much as possible of that certain product to help the viewer decide about “good” and “bad” things based on their own preferences. (If that makes sense) At the end of the day: my perspective of a product is still remains only one view out of many, and the viewer should consider this, also. :)
    I often receive free products for the purpose of doing a video, yet, never hide anything that I discover. When I’m facing with issues about a product, first, I contact the company to clarify my issue wasn’t user error (but it is almost every time). And if the problem occurs because of the fault of the product I never hesitated to say it. But even then, it could be weather, time, etc. so what works for someone, might not work for someone else. This falls in to common sense.
    Such a great subject to talk about Specky, and sorry for the long haul here 😅

      Thanks Viktor, I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I use "reviewer" to include anyone that uses a product and ends with an opinion. Those opinions are varied which is why I want people to seek out other content to give them a better idea before spending their money.

I personally think if your not trust worthy that one day it does bite you in the rear end , im seeing it at the moment with a certain item. I'm always open and honest and show the results I get at the end of the day it's my name and reputation on the line , there is one brand that everyone knows that I will promote and I am fond of but that's because I believe 100% in that brand and their products. We all have that one brand I'm sure we are all 100% confident in , Altho have no problem showing other products sometimes do work better then my favourite . I've only ever come across one Ytube detailer who is prepared to make false claimes about products for financial gain. I got stung by one of the biggest reviewers, buying two of The Last Coat on his endorsement with his promo code. Then we all found out how useless it was. But that meant he lost me as a subscriber. What goes around comes around. So your advice is well worth listening to. All credit to you.

    What always raises suspicions is when multiple channels show the same product around the same time and all claiming this is the product you need today. Obviously the product is being pushed through paid reviews, I'd rather see videos of the product going through a test over a period of time like Scott HD does. Going to forums you can also get a sense of how detailers rate the products. There is one YT guy who everyone knows is paid and he claims to be a detailer but only details his own 2 seater car in his garage. His 'Tests' are no more than a QVC advert.

    • @1stfrompuertorico568
      @1stfrompuertorico568 Рік тому +1

      @@karl3927 Isn't it a double sword? Why a company then has to need his review by paying for it? Many times he has also stated it at the beginning of the video that it is sponsored. I think that all who are going to do a review and test and speak about it should get a remuneration. Now, there are companies that want to control your tests and use, all sort of comments you say and then when the reviewer doesn't like it because it doesn't work as advertised or per instructions and be mad about it and tell others to bash you when there's a contract and the company doesn't want to abide to it and then spread that to everyone, that's dishonesty. There's honesty in saying it is sponsored and the thing is that is showing exactly how he sees it and is not bashing the products but saying his opinion on how they are and how durable they are because has tested them. There are products that has also tested that has paid for them and found them better than others and he has recommended them. A very clear example has been CarPro's as well as others that haven't paid for sponsorship but because of different detailer's recommendations. Many other detailers also have tested the same products and also give their recommendations per their environment. And even those Detailers have also been bashed by the same individual saying that they are getting paid too when that has been a lie. I imagine that Paul Dolden who hasn't been paid and has been giving his honest opinion too as well as Specky one day the same individual will say that they are being paid but they don't tell you about it. Remember, that he only has shown what he knew from a mad company but we don't know to other detailers they have approached trying to push their products with their narrative in order to do "business".

    Interesting- I think it's down to the impression of impartiality- If i think the reviewer is showcasing or being a little to favourable then I'll become suspicious. If in turn I see a reviewer trashing a product with an increased level of crticism then i begin to question the reviewer's intentions. I look past the personality in a lot of videos and concentrate on the product and the results. If someone is sponsored by a particular brand then that automatically poses a problem of bias- in that case it's down to the content creator to be as impartial as they can. Not easy.

Also I still believe if you really don't get on with a product then best bet is to speak to the brand firstly before absolutely bashing them on socials and UA-cam because as you say different people in different places get different results. I've done this multiple times and after speaking to the brand I have changed my methods or dillutions etc and had a better time with it. I get alot of pleasure out of using products and making videos (granted I've been doing it for only a few months) and I'm getting better slowly at producing watchable content (just).
