I have the OG rim mats Specky!
They are called 2x4 timber with 30 degree chamfers cut into each end, and then coated with 4 coats of Bedec barn paint and the tops covered with some chopped up old rubber car mats!
Total cost? About 7 quid! 😆😆😆
I used to have something similar but the mats offer wider protection to the area around the tyre and better knuckle protection when applying dressings.
These look like a decent investment. Good for cleaning the tyres and also dressing them. Like the fact the hose goes round the back tyres without getting stuck, handy.
I have a set of these, they are brilliant 👍👍
Use mine all the time there especially using on blockpaved driveways no staining with your tyre dressing and you save your knuckles 👍🏻
More useful than I first thought, and especially good for gravel or grass too!
Hi nice video for what they are they are really expensive I just park my car on four pieces of wood 25mm thick 250mm wide a radius on the corners to stop the hose snagging lot cheaper I been detailing cars for over forty years they are so many gimmicks on the market that are not necessarily keep the videos coming very enjoyable
They're a nice luxury.
Absolutely love mine
I do like the fact you can clean the bottom half of the tyre/wheel without the worry of getting any grit transfer on whatever you’re using, but generally I also like to move the car to check I’ve cleaned the entire wheel, or give me room to clean some of the calipers properly if a spoke is in the way 1st time around. Nice to see something different though 👍
Cheers loon, might have to try them on some Ferrari wheels 😉
Not a bad idea , thanks specky
Nice one thanks for the heads up, just the kind of thing I've been after...so ordered a set👍
Handy bits of equipment!!!
I love them. I know people complain about the price but I wouldn't want to be without them.
Keep watching this and in two mind whether to order 🤔
As my father always says "you won't know what it's like unless you try it"
I'm gonna have to speak to the wife and see if I can maybe grab these for my birthday at the end of the month. 😂🎉
Crossing my fingers for you buddy!
Oh ffs, i didn't want to want them, but I do 😢
🤣
Very handy, nothing worse than the patch that you usually miss if you don't roll the car back or forth.
The mats look useful but maybe not so good for gravel? The plastic looks quite brittle so I would be concerned that when used on say 20mm gravel there would not be enough even support so would result in the mats cracking. Perhaps you could test on gravel in the future?
Very informative
Bought a set after Mr Dolden reviewed them. Some people don't like them saying they use wood or nothing at all and just move the vehicle forwards. Each to their own I say, but I don't want two planks of wood nor do I want to get into my car with soap and water on my boots, the reason they work for me is I don't scrape my knuckles of my concrete driveway SIMPLES.
Maybe I should compare rim mats to planks of wood 🤣
You know you would get at least one idiot (not me, honest) giving the comment "well he's as thick as those planks" 😂😂😂
✋🏻I'm guilty of using planks of wood 🙈 I did a UA-cam Short, utilising wood as a kind of 'detailing hack' for cleaning wheels, unaware these things existed!😅 That's my birthday present request sorted anyway 😁👍🏻
I used wood myself for ages but these are way better. More expensive but a nice luxury.
I have a set of these, more than happy with them
👌🏻
Looks like a good idea... but generally, i usually slack off on my tyres! I do the rims, but the tyres are so low profile vs the size of the wheel, its barely worth paying attention to!
I'd certainly get some of these if i was more into tyre dressing though!
Get a dressing you like, give it a few tries then see if you miss it.
Nice!!!😊
I'm hoping for a set for my birthday
Crossing my fingers for you! 🤞
Great video mate as alwats
they are great, wish i had them when i had my sapphire Cosworth 4x4, they would have been great for detailing the wheels and tyres plus handy for shows as well getting that tyre shine on good and showing off the wheel and tyres better.
😎👌🏻
One thing to say four by two! I have four about two foot long each, ecologically friendly too!
Great Review Specky 👏
Nice to see a review without a Metro photobombing it!
I should start hiding a photo of the Metro in my videos 🤣
Do the wheel stops also stop the hose getting caught which would make them more useful
Yes they do
But you reversed the car onto the Rimmat, then drove forward to get off it again. How did you save the need to move the car?
Move the car once while cleaning the tyres to expose the bit you missed, then move it again when dressing the tyres to expose the bit you can't reach again. It's the same amount of times but it's only at the beginning and the end, not in-between.
@@SpeckyMcSporran I think you missed my point. You said in the video that it saves the need to move the car. If you move it the same number of times, you clearly haven't saved the need to move it. I use the little Car scope brushes, and I have never needed to move the car because they allow very good coverage. Only cost £6, which is much better than £50 for the Rimmats, and you can a pair of house guides for £12. Total outlay for me was £18, and I don't have to wash the mats afterwards. They are a good idea, but need to be a lot cheaper.
I think it's down to how I worded it in the video so I apologise if that wasn't clear. I meant it in the way that you wouldn't need to move it once up on the mats until you've finished the whole car.
I bought a set of these after Paul made it known how useful they are some months ago. I find them to be very durable, stop water slash back and no more moving the vehicle to clean the wheels.
👌🏻
Came to watch the review adfter listening to the last podcast - they're certainly a "Marmite" product based on the comments. I'm tempted (on the basis I've never seen a duff review from Specky) although I'd probably want to hang them from the garage wall when it comes to storage. I see people saying they're a luxury at 50 quid, but it costs more than that to fill a Fiesta with petrol these days!
They look just the thing for tyre cleaning and dressings it seems.
I sometimes break out the trolley jack for getting the dressing on all round, but can’t always be bothered with that.
BTW, got the DF tyre brush, perfect.
Brilliant combo!
Nice review, 'ordered some of these through your link ('hope you get some "pennies" for this!)
Thanks but I bought them with my own money and don't get anything for referrals, I just wanted to show them off 👍🏻
I want one! But they not shipping to Denmark 😢
In the States, I use 2 x 4 boards about 18 inches long, not much cost...
Hello Specky, they are a very handy thing to have for cleaning tyres or dressing them.£50 for a pair seems worth it,ideal for the detailing enthusiast
Very much an enthusiasts luxury 👍🏻
What are your opinion on these to this day? I've wanted these for a while and I've just seen that they've started stocking them on amazon but I wanted to make sure they are at least reliable before I commit to buy
I'm very happy with them, they're still in one piece though a little scratched/scuffed but otherwise fine 👍🏻
@@SpeckyMcSporran thanks for the speedy reply. Top bloke!
Great video, thank you.
I will pass at £50 a go, not affordable for me.
They're not for everyone, definitely a luxury at that price but I've used them every time and I'd be sad to be without them.
I need some advise....
My Setup : 7 seater and two family sized cars to wash and a drive to wash on.
I've just picked up the k5 compact from toolstation (£70 off on sale). So now looking for rest of the kit I'll need to make life easy.
I've ebayed a deluxe swivel stubby gun with quick release nozzles and a longer 15m hose. (£40+20)
And a angled lance (£10)
Now trying to decide between a Mjjc v2 or a dodo juice commotion v2 (£52/£38)
Any ideas which way I should go?
The MJJC makes some super thick foam but that's not always good as the foam can be quite dry therefore there's less active product on the paint. The Dodo Juice Snow Commotion is a better price with a wetter foam so I think that's where I'd spend my money.
@@SpeckyMcSporran thank you,.... I'll order the dodo one then 😁
Hi Specky a little off topic (sorry) but how would you go about removing tree sap from bodywork? I’ve cleaned a car today with BH auto wash when dry, you can still feel and see the tree sap in the sun all over the car.
Try car shampoo with warm water first. If that's not successful then try a tar remover. If that doesn't work then move on to clay.
Too steep for me I think, my Aberdonian must be coming out in old age mind you I have bits of decking board that do the same job or my jack though it is heavy. In theory its a good idea but surely they will be copied at a cheaper price soon from China.
I haven't seen anything yet but I'm sure it'll happen 😕
@@SpeckyMcSporran Great minds.😀😀
Natalie said to message you about getting my car cleaned
Find me on Instagram and send me a message 👍🏻
Great review as always, Craig. You've already cost me a fortune, lol, but these are way too expensive for me. Regards, David.
Cheers David, they're definitely a luxury but I'm so glad I have them now.
@@SpeckyMcSporran I agree mate. If my situation was different then I would have a set, however, life always gets in the way.
55 quid shipped, a luxury indeed. Good luck to the company do this as good to see new products but not for me.
To be honest Specky i drive my car forward about 6 inches job done, these really are unnecessary.
They're a luxury.
@@SpeckyMcSporran 👍
Too many cheap DIY alternatives to make these worth buying. Ironically, you had to move the car twice to use and remove the mats. Without mats, just need to move the car once🤔
Some of us see a glass half full, others see it half empty. Have a great day.
