Also own this camera. I think all these negatives are petty for what it costs. It's a mid grade camera. The 6k out of it looks absolutely stunning as well as the 4K. Nobody is buying this for long record times. Let's be real here.
May be petty, but doesn't mean we can't ask for them. This is $100 difference from Sony's A6700 with weather sealing. And while both have potential to over heat, I hear it far more with X-S20 than A6700. The 3rd negative was a bit much, though. And no reason other makers can't offer open-gate, especially when using the same sensor (looking at you Sony)
X-S20 user here, just love it. So much better (for me) than the X-S10.
First, about your Viltrox 13mm - very strange problem indeed. Just tested my 13mm now in my X-S20 and it is working perfectly. Maybe Viltrox could help you to force a rewrite of the lens firmware. Another suggestion (but probably you already did it) is to clean both the contacts in the lens and in the camera - maybe there is a single contact that is a bit dusty both in the lens and in the camera and could be the cause that the issue only appears in this combo. But very strange indeed.
About your points:
- Weather sealing: agree in full. Don't have much problem with dust because I use the Sigma 18-50 about 80% of the time and it have a rubber gasket, but rain is always an issue.
- Overheating: yep, it could happen. I live in Brazil, very hot here, but did not have too many issues (I use the camera like you, stills and short videos). But I noted some things that a lot of people could not realize.
The bottom of the camera is VERY important for cooling. Always noted that it heats very fast; and recently I bought the Smallrig half case, and I started to get much more overheating alerts. Probably a lot of people have L-brackets with Arca plate that covers all the bottom of the camera - it could intefere with it too. Lastly, now there is a trend to protect the camera with adhesive skins - this will increase massively the overheating.
Solution: keep the bottom of the camera free to be a heat exchanger, and / or buy an aftermarket fan (the Fuji is very expensive). I've got the Ulanzi one in the pre-order, made a torture test, and it doubles the recording time, even in demanding codecs. Some people that I know got some Aliexpress ones, that worked well too.
But yes, if you need a workhorse, get the X-H2 ou X-H2s.
Mine additional gripes about the X-S20:
- Don't minde the EVF resolution, but a bit more magnification would be nice.
- An extra custom button (preferably on the front) and an AF switch like other Fuji camera would be nice too.
- A problem from (almost) all the Fuji line: don't have a touch and track AF mode in vídeo (it have for stills). All brands have it, only Fuji not. But they've implemented it on the newer GFX camera, and since it uses the same processor, Fuji could easily port it to other X-Processor 5 cameras. Hope that they do it.

@@PawelJermo The case is VERY good, I love it, kept and use it. If your use is for stills, zero problem. If you use for short videos, specially in a not so hot environment (here is 36 degrees celsius today...), did not see a lot of trouble too - maybe just the 1st temperature warning, that was what happened to me.
But if you will use for long video takes or professional use, could be a problem.
I got my xs20 on preorder, so they included fuji grip and fuji external fan and smallrig cage for free. I also bought sigma 18-50mm f2.8 for my first lens. the problem with the lens is when I zoom in and out the exposure will noticably change for a sec. and for overheating issue, almost usually got me if I'm using 60fps (in 1080/4k) for a long record time with a hot weather (30 degree c up). I think they marketed it as a vlogging camera, so ofc with 24/25/30fps (1080p/4k/6.2k) I never had any issue for a long record time in any hot weather (in my city at least). so for overheat issue on the xs20 I think we just have to buy the fuji fan 001 (if u dont have one) for maximum use case in any condition. because when I paired those two, I never found any overheat issue in any hot weather. and by the way my everyday setup is xs20 + smallrig cage + sigma 18-50mm f2.8 + holyland lark m1 + fuji grip. also brought the fan if I want to torture this baby.
for an overheat issue I think sony still wins, but in my case at least bcause I got this camera in preorder I paid for around $1300 something, but in return I got many bonuses (about $650 if bought seperately). so my xs20 only $650 for body only. what is the competitor at sony at that price point? I think only sony a6400, zve10, a7ii. and with all that negatives I still happy with my xs20 (especially with the preorder deal) best bang for the bucks!

have you tried switching the auto high temp option in the settings? apparently that has much better tolerance to heat when shooting open gate 6.2K & 4K60 and nearly triples the time during which it lasts before the camera shuts down.

FYI, not sure what the issue is with your XS20 or your lens, but I also have the Viltrox 13mm 1.4 and it works perfectly. I have all the controls/infos on the screen. I also have the Viltrox 75mm 1.2, and it's all working nicely with all infos on the screen. I can swap with all my Fuji lenses and there's no need to set anything different, both my Viltrox work flawlessly. Had them both for a few months now. I have 7 Fujifilm lenses and 2 Viltrox, and I can control the lenses and see infos on the screen on all of them. Hope this helps! Camera/lens firmware issue?
I have brought ulanzi cooling fan.. n its quite cheap almost 100 times less than original n works very well.
Used it today as a 4th camera filming a conference in 6k to cover a wide angle, I use a homemade usb powered fan (I show how to make one on my channel) and that means I can film for over an hour with no issues. I have also found a few small issues using it alongside my Sony gear but yea for the price and size and features I was happy to take the compromise, things I miss though - wireless video in a useful way (not just 1080p and feature limited) adjustable settings during shooting, white balance, picture profile etc. And overall just a sluggishness in menus.
I will double check mine I’m pretty sure my 13mm works fine on xs20 I usually use the aperture ring but I don’t think I’ve had this same problem
2:22 is your camera temp set to high? I did a 7 hours shoot, not constantly rolling but rolling a lot and got the notification that the camera was getting hot twice that day. Shot in 4k 60 fps 200mbs.

hi for overheating I recommend the ulanzi CA25 fan for 40 dollars it must be as good as the original

I had Fuji cameras before and there is an option to take photos without the lens, check menu and disable. Hope it helps

In the options, find the shoot without lens option and turn it on.

pick up some glass cleaning solution at your local store; use a cotton swab and clean your viltrox contact points, it will solve the issue. had the same with my copy and the doing the above resolved it
IDK about your viltrox lens but the surui Night Walker is a manual cinema lens, so of course you're not going to be able to adjust your Aputure on the body camera
wdym by sirui nightwalker doesnt work for you ? can you be more specific so i can help u out bit ? because i personally own that 2 lens with my xs20 and they work perfectly fine ?( i even shot some short films with sirui nightwalker )
The Sirui lens just isn't being read. I can't focus and there's no F or T Stop reading. Very annoying - I've tried most things. Same issue applies to my Viltrox and both these work fine with my XH2s

@jay_ducker I tested my Viltrox 13mm and the F stop display is working fine on the X-S20. Lens v 1.01 camera v 1.13
In 2023 I still love my XT3 despite the battery' short life. About an upgrade to a new Fujifilm camera I'm waiting for a new Xpro or XT6....
I have xs20 and the viltrox 13mm and the apreture ring and focus work perfectly like a native fuji lens. Very fast focus, almost as fast as my 33mm f1.4 if the subject is not very far. I have shot in extreme weather with it with this lens, at -35 degrees in Svalbard I shot auroras and I have shot in ice cave where my camera fell down on the ice and outside fell on snow and was absolutely fine despite not having weather sealing on both lens and body

I love my X-S20 but one MAJOR issue for me is that the usb C webcam mode doesn't work on Apple Silicon Macs. *works fine on PC and Intel tho. I love using my cam as a webcam tho and was pretty gutted when I realized it didn't work :(
Would this be circumvented with an El Gato Cam Link?

I had the same problem with my XT4 and the 13mm f1.4… what caused this was actually my sdcard. Maybe try to connect the viltrox to your xs20 without a sdcard in it. Weird stuff 🤪
I have a viltrox 23mmm 1.4 i don't have issue like your on the f stop.
For me traveling and family since I'm retired. I just wish it would be a little bit cheaper. Say, 100 to 150 CAD less. 😊

One more dislike, but for Fuji in general - they should embrace that people loves to use custom film recipes, and open 3 ou 4 slots for film recipes in the film simulation selection.
Now you have to waste a C setting to store the recipe, and if you want to change the recipe but keep the other settings, you have to edit the C position. With "film recipes" slots in the film simulation list, you could use the C slots for shooting modes and change the film simulation / recipe at will.
Great idea. I don't understand why they're not letting us do that. It shouldn't be improssible.
@@lib747 Worse: Sony, with with their Picture Profiles (that could be tweaked like Fuji recipes - albeit the results may vary) and Lumix (with their LUT scheme it the S5II and S9) allows to do that. Fuji stubbornness is rearing it ugly head.
I still cannot find anything that makes me sell the X-T4 despite all the frustration I have with it... I can't justify the XH-2S for what I do, so it is very hard, every time I think going Sony, I just think of losing the fuji colours haha, this is so hard!
