Like to know if sound board was painted before stringing or at later date. Also who published Rogers compositions. What stops are part of this harpsichord?
3:09 he adjusts his glasses... only pointing it out because anyone who has even the split second required for that while playing la marche des scythes, is clearly very talented. lol.
Pancrace Royer is quite underrated. We have here a very brillant score. I must confess that I do not know if it is an original, a transcription, or variations over an existing theme.
I feel like you are the only interpret I've heard who both understood the intention of the composer and the mood of the piece. I don't know much about music, but somehow this feels like Royer wanted it to be played this way. There is a mix of mechanical elegance and suppleness that seems to suit the fashion of that time. A very clear instrument, excellent sound capture, and a cameraman who knows what to film. Perfect.
That’s because the strings are parallel to the grain of the wood in the soundboard which makes the sound very clear and direct. 18th century pianos were built the same way. Modern pianos have crossed strings with perpendicular soundboards in order to make all of the notes resonate richly in the middle of the instrument. Musical values, aesthetics and design philosophy in the past were quite different from our modern romanticism-informed attitude towards art in general.
Absolutely fabulous. I've listened to a number recordings of this piece at different speeds but I like this one most. It has a wonderful drive and pulse to it without sounding too manic.
Bravo! An incredible piece and wonderful playing. For anyone who thinks harpsichord music is boring (I know a few) this one really shakes off the dust! Thank you so much.
can't reply directly to Ian Brockman's comment regarding the spectacle adjustment at 3:09 . There is a false arm connected by levers to a foot operated pedal for the sole purpose of spectacle pushing. There is another pedal which operates the false arm to turn music sheets if you're using those, but here he's not using sheets, just spectacles.
+AdvocateVaping QuashMonopolisingRegulation I think you may need glasses, there are no foot pedals. Very late 18th century harpsichords had knee levels, but this instrument does not have them. And in 47 years of playing keyboard (Piano, Harpsichord, Organ), I have never come across a pedal to turn pages. Are you Vaping "Whacky Tobaccy?
Renshen1957 yes I do need glasses now after testing my spectacle pushing pedal which I've never needed before due to having perfect vision... damned thing poked me in the eye due to my lack of bespectaclment. now the pusher is stuck on enabled and tends to spectacle push of its own accord... nothing else for it, I'll have to wear spectacles solely for the purposes of not getting poked in the eye again by the pedal operated spectacle pushing mechanism on my 18th century keyboard (harpsichord not piano, synth, organ, accordion or harmonium).
What a brilliant interpretation. If perfection exists you're not far from it. The instrument has such a powerful tone ! By the way the 4:40+ and 5:30 "scenes" are so well played, great ! I'm totally enthusiastic, will buy your records and promote your work around me.
Tom... I think this CD is the best in harpsichord music of history.. it's incredible and we must buy it.. We must buy it!.. And yes, thanks so much to Yago for his gift to the world!.
Magnifica composicion,y genial interpretacion. No me canso de encucharte yago;me he puesto tu video centenares de veces. Que gran maravilla el mundo de la musica. Y que apasionante el clavecín!
You find my Royer recording in cd published by Brilliant Classics (BC 94479) and online at Onclassical(.)com. In Itunes and Spotify also available. Thanks for the comments!
Very nice, quickly played, but also well articulated notes at the same time 👌 You really showed us how good this piece is by playing this way. Most musicians make it sound like a cloud of notes by playing too rushed, making individual notes much less distinguishable.
Quand j'écoute cela je ne peux m'empêcher de comparer ça avec des vieux morceaux de type trash metal. Le "Principe" est le même je trouve. En tout cas c'est splendide.
Awesome :) >> Just bought the recording on iTunes and it is even BETTER. Don't know what took me so long. :O UA-cam can't render ultra - high quality sound really. :o
This video needs a 60FPS version! His hands move too quickly and it's a blur at 30FPS (!) Magnificent rendition of one of the most iconic (and hard!) pieces composed for the harpsichord ever...
the video is perfectly recorded and edited (what a sound!). the harpsichord is tremendous and so beautiful. the music and it's interpretation is just out of this world... but that bow-tie and those pants... almost ruin the whole thing! any way, big fan of this
I have a question: Why does your harpsichord has a chinese dragon on it's lid? It looks as if someone turned a Yakuza member into a baroque musical instrument. Not that I'm complaining, that's a really cool and original design!
I had the harpsichord decorated not by the maker, but by a woman in Germany. The wonderful stand was made also in Germany by a great carpenter.
@@fluffkitten4339 ....silence 🤣🤣🤣
@@philipbay1548 Logical. Silence is the answer to a stupid question.

This guy tore that harpsichord all to pieces. I thought the entire building was going to cave in. The best music I have ever heard. Thank you MASTER.
Ebony Man , he ain't a master
@@hannahxu9607 better than you could ever dream of being

Holy s, I never noticed that! That is pretty skilled.
No doubt talented. ..but trying to understand the spirit and I just don't receive it
The harpsichord is my new favourite instrument after this.
Pancrace Royer is quite underrated. We have here a very brillant score. I must confess that I do not know if it is an original, a transcription, or variations over an existing theme.
Totally original.
Probably the most expressive and intense performance on UA-cam
Wow. This is wonderful. I'm so happy to have chanced upon this. Thank you.
How rare! A hi-def video, great performance, great music and nicely shot harpsichord video. Oh joy!

How do you figure this? About the interpretation ...
That Harpsichord is the equivalent analogue to a high quality modern concert grand.
Those notes ring so clear.

LA marche des Scythes (pas "Le") - de Royer (Joseph Nicolas Pancrace).
Superbe ! Magnifique ! Grandiose !
With "Le" isn't like Le marché des Scythes?
Absolutely fabulous. I've listened to a number recordings of this piece at different speeds but I like this one most. It has a wonderful drive and pulse to it without sounding too manic.
Awww-thank you. It is absolutely spectacular. Many congratulations. I'll be ordering the CD for certain. Best wishes to you Yago.
That must be the most violent piece of music I´ve ever heard. I love it !
You've truly brought out the beauty of this piece. I can't stop listening!
That instrument belongs in a museum. But is indeed the best harpsichord I know of, and my current favorite.
Who made this one?
Fantàstic !! I love the Harpischord !! You're been played really great !!
Thank you MASTER....♥....
You are appreciated...Artistic flows everywhere....

Spettacolare.
Simply magnificent!

This is great.
fantastic...transporting, bravo!
Where is his white powdered wig and fancy get up?
+Nekro Olea Where? Back in the 18th Century.
+Renshen1957 17th.
+Nekro Olea That would have been SICK! He should have dressed up for this one.
+Christopher Hitchens No, powdered wigs definitely more of an 18th century thing.
Did you say white powder?

I would to know also and who made it
It was a common practise during the Baroque period to decorate furniture with chinoiserie (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinoiserie)
i was painted by a woman artist in Germany, next to Freiburg.
This is so beautiful
i love the sheet music...
Master class !! :-)
good!!!!
rocking the bowtie and the harpsichord at the same time!!
