As someone who has tried alot of mods, you should play any custom campaign with "Hard Training (Super Hordes)" Mod from the workshop. You can set level 1 to 6, with level 6 causing SI to behave like in versus. it's really challenging for pro players, without being unfair. I recommend it :) Makes campaigns alot more fun. There are very few campaigns that are hard for good players on expert.
so I'm not super well versed in l4d mechanics or tricks but why change to idle so much? the only thing I could think of was maybe instant reload. edit: on closer (if I just waited 2 more seconds) inspection it is just and instant reload
