My favorite revelation is that Barry is the dad-est dad that ever dad-ed. Reliving the days of his one gloriously bad Jill sandwich joke that he’s so gosh darn proud of that you’re gonna hear it forever.
I found this series about 3 days ago and sad it's nearly ending. Resi is my all time fave series and it's inspired me to go back and play some again and get hold of copies I either lost with time or never got a chance to play. One of the best gaming series' I've ever watched
@@DoodlesGaming grab re remake it's such a gem and can be found on pretty much any platform. For nostalgia reasons I always play it on my gamecube lol. Also code Veronica is an underrated gem of the series you really owe it right yourself to check it. And now re 2 remake is out I guess try that out too. I would avoid 5 and 6 they are meh 4 is pretty good also. JUST PLAY THEM ALL AND LOOK UP THE OUTBREAK GAMES!!!
Revelations 1 & 2 might not be as important now that we have RE7 and the new RE2, but it's were the return to form slowly began. Rev 1 & 2 came at a bleak time in the franchise when all I had was 5 and 6 and they really weren't cutting it for me. That's why I regard the Revelations games highly despite their flaws. I watched your original reviews of these two games initially but I'm glad you revisited them as part of this retrospective. Solid work as always.
Thanks man! I'm in the same boat with you. At the time, these were our best bet, at getting a more traditional RE game, and I'll always appreciate that.
Indy midgets are garbage yeah I could see that if you didn’t play all the resident evil games. If you did, going from 1 and 0 remake to 4, 5, and 6 and then to the revelations games and then from there to 7, I think you get more of an appreciation of what they tried to do in 7. I was really happy that 7 wasn’t a complete outlast clone. That was my greatest fear at the time
Fact. Rev games feel like resident evil. Fact, 7 and 8 do not. 7 and 8 are not even remotely close to a traditionally RE game, i wouldnt even put them in the same genre.
@@jonathansoko1085 to be fair, i think they both felt like RE games, especially 7. inventory management, tight ammo, interesting and mysterious setting (baker house), bioweapons, some backtracking, puzzles etc. 8 was more like the action games of 4, 5 ,6
As soon as Barry said "I have this!" Back when I first played the game I almost cried with happiness. It was one of the most badass moments in the entire franchise.
Rev2 has one of the best typical RE endings: Chopper, rocket launcher, slow-motion bullet, cheesy one-liner, ... that's my RE :') I also enjoyed it more than 7.
@@AvalancheReviews Huh, that's the bit I hated most in the game. Still, I'm coming from the weird position of liking the games but hating everything that defines the franchise.
I like the idea of a standalone raid mode if it’s fleshed out and treated as a celebration of RE past. I would love to see the spencer mansion as a map! Plus since the mainline titles seem to be returning to a mostly horror aesthetic, it could appeal to the other RE fans who enjoy the action gameplay.
I don't think they suffered much work in porting these maps, they just fit in nicely in the engine all maps from re5 and re6 but imagine if we get reworked sections from re4 re3 re2... that would be quite a banger
Actually, Alex Wesker was mentioned in the Lost in Nightmares in Spenser's memoirs as the last of the Wesker children. She was looking for a way to make Spenser immortal on some island until she betrayed him and vanished with all the data and test subjects. Although I did not really like the whole "Wesker Children" shit, it was cool to see this story arc unfold in Rev 2, and Alex's motivation was pretty good, unlike her looney brother from Resi 5. Another fun fact is that english localisation made it a slightly different game. In the japanese version, there were no hints about Claire's affection for Niel: she just respected him, that's all. Also, the Barry jokes were absent. But I actually liked these changes. It gave Claire a little depth, and Barry's jokes gave a HOLE lot of fanservice to us. Storywise, Rev 2 is one of the strongest in the series. Gameplay was fun too. Popping zombies' heads with Barry was especially delightful. And I'm glad you noticed weapons' sound effects. Last time they were good in Resi 3. Now I'd like a sequel to it to find out what's gonna happen to Natalia, since it's clear that Alex has crept her way inside her consciousness. Are there any Resi games left for you to cover?)
Honestly, the gun sounds really struck me. I'm surprised he didn't mention it, but they were shamefully recycled from RE6, and while they sounded just fine in that game, for a new title, I was hoping for something new in that regard. I thought Rev 1's recycling RE5's gun sounds was due to the technical limitations of the DS or whatever, so that's why I was a bit disappointed. Still love this game and imo, (not having interest in or having played 7) the best game to come out since RE5.
@@herptydumpty7659 you mean on this title? Or the previous entries? He does make a point to say the sound effects of the guns are punchier and the guns have weight to them in this entry.
Only titles left (not including the CGI films) are Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps. Though Umbrella Corps might not get covered considering pretty much everything has been said about the game plus it's apparently dead which makes getting a lot of gameplay footage tough since it's multiplayer game.
I mean in this specific title. The sounds fit more for RE6 because it was more action based. And on a sidenote, the first hand gun Claire gets uses the 'Nine-Oh-Nine' sound fx from Jake and Chris' campaign pistol in 6, which I couldn't stand. Wish they had used Leon's wingshooters or Helena's Picador. Just small pet peeves.
Sound capture for firearms in japamese games is notoriously bad as they pretty much only ever use exisiting stock samples as opposed to live audio capture
This was my personal RE7. I really enjoyed this game and hope this is what Resident Evil continues to be more like than what 7 is. Loved the location, monsters, and gameplay. It wasn't perfect. Didn't like the episodic style (which is hopefully in the past now) and player 2 being unable to fight was a bit annoying compared to how fun 6 was. But I love Rev 2 way more than 7. Edit: To be clear I say it's my PERSONAL RE7 because I didn't play this game until after I played 7. Dug it as a sequel way more.
Steve Rudzinski I’m in the same boat honestly. I loved Revelations 2 way more than RE7 gameplay wise but I think it’s also because I have a Claire Redfield bias lol. RE7, although a great game, didn’t fully feel like a RE game to me mostly because of how stiff and boring Ethan was as a character. His lack or reaction to most stuff like getting his arm cut off or seeing a giant bug lady kinda made me less invested in the story. And I enjoyed RE6 as well. I actually still play it now even though I know a lot of people think it’s the absolute worst game ever lol
Did you enjoy The Evil Within games? I always felt like the monster designs were similar, not in a bad or contrived way but just they had similar aesthetics.
Revelations 2 is a mirror of Capcom's peak internal struggles and transformations (2012 and 2015). It is a hybrid (albeit a better one than RE6), and luckily the company switched it up and cemented themselves back at the top of the charts with consistently great games (RE7, DmC5, RE2). Let's hope it lasts
Revelaitons 2 was a surprisingly solid game. The only thing that was bugging me was Moira's incessant swearing. Like, damn girl ought to get her mouth washed with soap.
@@AvalancheReviews She's like that on purpose. She thinks she's being cool and grown up, but she's just a fedora tipping edgelord. It's all clarified in the storyline.
High schooler from the future, if this dialogue were to take place a few years later, Moira’s dialogue would be a bit more accurate (at least in the states). I chuckled at some of her lines because of her light angst which I probably wouldn’t have at an older age
I think revelations is capcoms backup plan if all else fails it also stars more resident Evil characters who don't get as much screen time anymore. example would be barry who starred in resident Evil 1 a brief camo in resident Evil 3 an then this game. Characters who also fall in the no screen time are Billy , Rebecca , Nikolai, Carlos and Hunk and I wouldn't be surprised if more of these side characters appear in future revelations games
Billy and Carlos seem to be one off characters that make an appearance and are only playable once then you never hear from them again. They're like sheva. Nikolai is painted as a villain/traitor of sorts so I'm not sure they'd give him his own playable arc since they already have people that kinda fill that slot already Jessica REV 1 and more prominently Ada Wong. I do like Rebecca's odds of getting another game though for some reason
Rev 2 is a pretty good game on its own. Imo this game makes rev1 look like a comedy skit cuz that game felt too goofy for me. Raid mode was also so addictive in this game and far better than any mercenaries mode in the series.
Revelations 2 is, again, one of my favorite games of the series (likely due to it being one of the first RE games I really played more than just at a surface level). The music, the atmosphere, the environments, the gameplay, the surprisingly fun partner system, and the cheesy callbacks.. my god the cheesy callbacks. Revelations 2 came at a really rough time in my life, so I would often wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to fall back asleep. At some point I just got annoyed with laying in bed doing nothing or just reading, so I snuck downstairs and played through the whole game on my PC, finishing the game just as the sun came up. It's a really amazing memory to me, and I fell in love with the game as a result. I rememeber having to stifle my laughter a lot whenever Barry said a one liner to not wake up my parents, especially the callback one liners like "Ha! Who's the Master of Unlocking now, huh?!" and "I haaaaave thiiiiiiiis!". Long story short, like the first Revelations game, Revelations 2 holds a special place in my heart.
Dude. I thought I had mad love for the survival horror genre. But after watching every single one of your retrospective videos I feel surpassed. Your devotion to the series delights me. Nothing would make my bucket list more pleased than to discuss Resident Evil 2 with you. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! I really do love this series and survival horror. Part one was the first time I can remember a game actually scaring me. So I feel a duty to make sure it keeps scaring unsuspecting gamers for as long as it can. Ha!
That iconic slow zombie head turn at the beginning of the first game was enough to send traumatizing spikes down my spine. Kept me away from the game. At least till I played 2. But them hunters are a lot cooler than the lickers in my book.
I love this game, I have it on xbox one, and I think it looks, and plays amazing. Feels kinda underrated though imo. I absolutely love raid mode, think I enjoy it more than the actually story mode :)
I feel like Rev 2 is the most underrated entry in the series. It's addition to the lore, more cerebral storytelling and higher difficulty made it stand out to me. Compared to 5 and 6 this was a godsend.
5:25 The people in Project W mentioned in 5 weren't siblings. They were unrelated kids gathered from around the world, indoctrinated by Umbrella and had their surnames changed to Wesker after the head researcher. Albert and Alex were 2 of them. Alex was mentioned in Lost In Nightmares files too.
Rev 2 was such an enjoyable experience for me, i love playing coop games with my sister we've just always have this good synergy when playing, but shes never been into fast paced action games. I never got to play RE5 or 6 with her because of that reason. However when she saw that the other player was more of a support role and i asked for help, it cliqued. It was so much fun to have finally beat a resi game with her. The cinematic approach they took got us hooked too. Even though they released an episode every week it made it feel like the game didnt get too stale and we were able to plan out when to play and always excited for the next one, such a memorable experience we'll never forget.
I love this game! Its a pretty solid experience. Getting to play Barry is a plus, the one liners adds so much humor. I waited till the game came out on disk to purchase it. Well worth it! Raid mode keeps ya playing for a long time! This game is a Blast indeed!
What I really like about these videos of yours is how you have such a focus on the real life context surrounding the release of these and how that might have led to these games being the way they are. From the struggled development of RE2 to the episodic nature of RER2, you always provide some valuable perspective that helps to understand the motivation and philosophy behind these games.
i own this on ps3 and i had no gameplay issues. i just REALLY wish they had online coop for story mode. the game already has coop for raid mode (which i didn't care for) and the story was already designed to work with multiple players! some have said no one would want to play as the little girl since she cannot use weapons. which is silly i played as her most of the time.
@Avalanche Reviews regarding Alex Wesker, I believe she is referenced in some of the files you uncover in RE5 Lost in Nightmares DLC, along mentions of Albert, the other Wesker and the island in Rev 2.
I truly enjoyed your video on this Retrospective and your other one(s) of the series. I truly hope you go back and talk about the Raid Modes for those are separate experiences that deserve their own review of their own. Maybe you did do these at one point in your channel and since I'm kinda new to your channel. One more thing Avalanche Reviews, Dead Aim deserves another play but with the Guncon 2 it suppose to be played with. I'm in the works of getting the T-wire so you can hook up a GunCon to the video output and play on a CRT. If needed, I'll even lend you mine for that review. It's the only way I played that game. Maybe it's nostalgia since I haven't had the chance to play it again that way, but from one RE fan to another, it deserves that that point of view.
Best reviews ever! I love your reviews. You should Metal Gear Solid reviews that would be awesome! You are great! Keep up the awesome work. You give very fair, unbiased reviews. I love Resident Evil but you can give very objective reviews and that's what I love.
This game ended up having some really good character development for some series favorites whom we don't get to see very often; my favorite, of course, being the Sluice Gate.
This is my second favorite RE game. I know that’ll sound sacrilege to most, but the fact that the whole game is perfectly playable alone or with a friend is just so much fun and value for me. I've had friends who don’t like scary or even stressful games become fully engaged and interested in the series afterward. Sure, that’s not too big a deal for most fans, but this game stands out for someone who loves games with friends. I also believe this is the true sequel to RE4 and is vastly, VASTLY superior to 5 and 6.
My thoughts. The story was fine, the mechanics were fine, besides Barry being the best, the characters were ok. There’s a bit of weaponry to choose from, enemy variety is heavily limited, boss fights were not good. The endings I wasn’t very fond of, and like Revelations 1 the story is unfinished and ends with another cliffhanger and we don’t have a clue if it’ll lead anywhere. Overall I like the game and I had fun, and I want Capcom to wrap up the Revelations 1 and 2 stories. What happened to Jessica? What happened with Raymond? How will Barry and his family take action when they find out Natalia has successfully became Alex Wesker? I need to know what happened.
Aww yeah. Just finished celebrating my birthday, and now I got a great new episode of the Retrospective to watch! Revelations 2 pleasantly surprised me. I really enjoyed it, more than the first Revelations I think. Seeing Barry as macho badass grandpa and seeing Claire period was a treat, and I like that they made the co-op a little different. Honestly reminds me of RE:0, one character to do the tough fighting, one to provide utilities ... damn, now I'm imagining an RE:0 remake in this style. It's never gonna happen but it'd be pretty badass.
I really enjoyed this game. Story wise its possibly the best RE game for a long while and it felt much more fluid than the first Revelations game. I honestly feel like this is the game RE5 should have been. Im also currently working my way though all RE games and I too, found myself getting pissed at the fact I was basically replaying RE4 but I preferred this to RE5, personally.
I disagree with that, mainly due to RE5 having way more polish/production value. Revelations 2 is and feels like a budget title. The stories are a wash for me.
Raid mode in REV2 is shit, maps are artificially open and half of them arent even scary due to how scripted they are, controls are too smooth leading to combat not being scary and deaths being frustrating, it reuses a ton of assets from RE6 (half the guns are from RE6), weapons dont feel even near as good to shoot as those in REV1 which is another carryover from RE6, moira's reapperence in the true ending doesnt make sense unless you buy the DLC, etc, etc, etc.I love REV2, but it bearly gets close to the amazing REV1, its better in some aspects, but overall REV1 is better.
im pumped for you finishing this series but at the same time sad because this is one of the few series that i really look forward, but then again its all because of you and how good you are
Yo, I remember I bought revelations 2 at Walmart just because it was "resident evil" always been a fan of the numbered entry's. This game has easily become one of my favorites in the whole series. Sooo good.
the game really cheaped out on the animation front. everyone uses the Claire running animation. it's disappointing since in RER1 there is at least different animation for everyone.
Sir Derpington I was less concerned about that then I was with the overall recycling of environments between Claire and Barry. The budget for these side stories are smaller than main titles but come on now
Dude, ever since I stumbled upon your channel I fell in love with your style, your narrative and the sheer amount of content about RE, horror games and others you provide. It's a travesty you are not more popular. Keep up the good work!
Found your content after a replay of parasite eve 2 and wanting to see someone’s explanation of number 1. Which lead me into watching your resident evil retrospective. A few hours later I’ve binged what the entire series, which is something I’m not proud off, this has lit the fire under my desire to replay some old games and possible treat myself to number 7. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of your content. You my friend are a glowing example of “don’t judge a book by its subscriber count”. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your next series of content. Hope this isn’t lightening in a bottle. No pressure 😁
Thanks man! I love making this stuff. So its great to see so many people really getting into it. All this started as an excuse to replay all my favorite games. Ha! Now it's a part time job. Comments like this keep me making the best content I can. Thanks for the love!
Avalanche Reviews I’ll be interested to see what your views are on the Re2 remake are. 2 always holds a fond place in my nostalgia centre as it was the first one I played. I came across it in a monthly issue of PlayStation magazine I was sometimes allowed to get when our shopping with my mum. You’d get a disc with a variety of playable demos on it. One of which was the first 15 minutes of re2. I must of played that 1000’s of times ... getting further and further into the game each . I could play the first section of it with my eyes closed. I do miss some of the old timey things you’d get pre high speed internet. Coming across games by chance ... all the rumours and myths about games that you’d never know if it was true or not. Now everything is a click away. I guess that makes me old. .....
Yeah man, it used to be magical. I couldn't afford month game magazine subscriptions, so I only had about how long it would take my mom to check out at the grocery store, to skim through a few game mags and see what was going on. Those were the days!
I've been watching your retrospective Re videos and are really great and I enjoyed them like a lot,I started watching your videos less than a week ago and now I'm subbing to you Avalanche reviews
Revelations 2 was so good and I'm kind of upset that they didn't continue the story in RE7. As much as I enjoyed RE7, it kinda sucks that they just threw out Natalia and Jake. I fully expected RE7 to be about Jake and Natalia/Alex.
I really loved Revelations 2. Beyond the solid gameplay and setting you covered in your video, I really liked all the funny dialogue and callbacks to the old games. Barry in particular was fantastic and frequently brought a smile to my face. I'd also like to add that the Raid mode minigame for this game is by far my favorite RE mini-game of the series. There's loads of levels, and they even take characters, environments, and enemies from RE5, RE6, and Rev1 and mix them in which was pretty cool. If count raid mode, this is the first game to have Chris, Jill, Claire, and Leon in it, so that's kinda nifty.
I really enjoyed this game and when it came out on the Switch, I bought it for the Resident Evil on the go and the controls play very well in the portable mode
Hey I've been watching your Retrospective vids on the RE series and honestly they're fantastic, very good work! I'm slowly watching some of your other videos and I'm enjoying them as well. And thanks to your vids I'm giving the Resident Evil saga another chance. Anyways, thank you! And amazing work
Resident evil 4 really pissed in your cheerios huh? Lol. As a fan of both styles of resident evil i understand. As a young kid running around the Spencer estate are some of the best gaming memories i have.on the other hand i love the new style as well. Re4 is one of my favorite games of all time
This is legit one one my fave games in the series After 2-remake and maybeeee 7 All the characters are good Moira MUST return!!! And what happened to Barry??! I’d love to see a follow up But I’d also just like to see the old cast again Ethan was great, but he’s no Leon And Chris isn’t the same without his sis and 100% platonic friend 100%
Appreciate the shout out to the Patrons! I always wondered if you knew the difference between my real name and username lol I figured you thought I was 2 different guys.
I liked this game mostly on that you get you play as Barry "badass" Burton. I always wonder what happen to him after RE1 and on;y heard that he is alive from RE3. But you get to play as him and to know that he works for the bsaa as well made me feel relieved that they didn't forget about him. Having him come in looking for his daughter wielding his iconic revolver and modified S.T.A.R.S. Beretta was great and funny that his had those two guns for many years. I do wonder if they are going to continue this series since the ending sort of hinted that. as always great video Jared and look forward to the next.
I’m playing this game for the first time now, and I’m glad the first review I discovered for this game was yours because it helped reaffirm what I felt as a long-time RE fan: This game is actually good lol
I think this is the first time I've seen one of your videos on the day it cam out, and for a game I'm madly in love with. cheers friend. love the series
I played Rev2 with my nephew with me as Moira and Natalia handling support and item finding/weakpoint duties. We got to enjoy the story together, enjoy the jump between storylines and had a great time going between puzzles and combat. The episodic nature set a good place to start and end our gameplay sessions and there's multiple extra side-stories to try after you're done with the main story. Raid mode was also a really good time single or two-player. If you get the chance to play this two-player I would suggest it.
After the the out right Micheal Bay Joke that was RE6 (even if you liked it there's no getting around how stupid & not RE it was) this gave me hope for the series & after 7 I thanked the Nemesis I was right :)
Hell yeah, good job man! Can't wait for your take on the RE Deck building game! In all seriousness, I'm with you one Alex Wesker. She's really a character that seems to come out of nowhere. This is because, If I'm not mistaken, her only mention was off of the "Lost in Nightmares" DLC, where Spencer goes in-depth on to what she's working on, on the very island Rev 2 takes place. Of course you have to read A LOT of shit to even find that. Which was one of my biggest complaints about 5. All it's great story beats where wrapped up in files that nobody wanted to read because you're playing a co-op action game. You'd think Alex would have been a bigger deal too. In any case, I'm pretty much with you 100% percent on this game. It's a very up and down experience. Can't wait to see your next project. I got money on the next big one you do, after a few "Trashed Classics" to wind down from this, will be "Silent Hill" with a small side bet on a low odds "Dead Space.'
This is the first Resident Evil game in the franchise where Alyson Court does not provide the voice for Claire Redfield. She was replaced by "James Baker" (an alias for Ali Hillis). Court has stated she wasn't contacted by Capcom about reprising the character or even informed about her replacement, and that she would have loved to return to voice Claire stating the character had become a part of her over the many years. Takes place between the events of Resident Evil 5 (2009) and Resident Evil 6 (2012). Oddly, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 was never released for the Nintendo 3DS even though that was the original platform the first Revelations was developed for and released on. Revelations 2 is available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS Vita, and PC. This is the second game in the series to use the Uroboros virus as a plot element (first being Resident Evil 5 (2009)). However, this is the first game to analyze the effects of a successful merging, as well as using it to make B.O.W.s. As the English voice recording was not done with a SAG-AFTRA approved contract, most of the American voice actors were using pseudonyms or at least similar versions of their names in order to distance themselves from their union-approved work. This sequel to Resident Evil: Revelations (2012) actually has little to do with that game in the narrative sense, apart from some references to the Terragrigia Panic introduced in the first game. However, they are connected by tone and structure. Both Revelations games take place between two main entries; they both follow an episodic structure with previews to previous episodes; both alternate between two storylines that occur at different time periods and feature different protagonists; the gameplay of both games is focused strongly on discovering objects hidden in dark places, and harken back to the series' survival-horror roots; and they both feature an arcade style "Raid Mode" unique to this sub-series. This is the second game in the series in which the active part starts with Claire Redfield waking up in and being released from a prison, after Resident Evil: Code: Veronica (2000). First game to show Albert Wesker's twin Alex Wesker. There are two endings to Revelations 2: the good (canon) ending and the bad ending. In episode 3 during Claire's section, the choice made during the boss fight with Neil decides how the game ends: if Claire is the one to deliver the killing shot, then the bad ending will take place. If Moira is the one to deliver the shot, then she will overcome her aversion to guns and aid her father Barry in the finale, leading to the good ending.
tbh, I still think RER2 has the best/most balance mix of action + survival horror combat, arguably the best one out all of RE games including the new ones (RE7 & RE2). I wouldn't be surprise to if the dodge step feature is making a come back to the upcoming RE3R as the OG RE3 also has dodge, push, melee moves to combat the more relentless & faster Nemesis.
When I purchased Revelations 2, I found that the atmosphere of this game was much more terrifying and scary in regards to a bit more cartoonish action in Revelations 1 and with some off the wall characters and a bit back and forth and confusing set pieces in regards to story. I found that revelations 2 was much more simplistic and grounded in the story and didn't feel that confusing. I really do hope they continue the revelations storyline, whether it be from 1 or 2 because both has potential for sequels. If I had to choose either, I liked revelations 2 in regards to gameplay and replayability. Another great review man, keep it up. I really do enjoying listening to you talk about the resident evil games and hearing your thoughts.
I don't know why more RE fans aren't stuck on this game like I am. I love it! Raid mode alone is worth it and it is easily the best extra mode ever made for a Resident Evil game.
Literally playing this game as a warmup for RE4R...man is it a challenge. Will be on this one for a long time till Capcom releases the DLCs for 4 Remake...the writing and storyline for this entry are terrific!
I played it first on pc at 4K and it looked amazing. Clare’s ass never looked so good. Also the part where you fight the mutated Pedro was extra creepy for me.
alex was always said to be the only other wesker alive besides albert, and it was said that spenser kept her at his side, truth be told the fact she never showed up before felt like a loose end to any hardcore lore players
Avalanche Reviews I agree ! I’m warming up to Moira and Claire is fine, not to sure about her character model though. She looks like Ellen lol? Huh? But I’m having fun, doing episode two as I type this. Going to do an episode a day.
My reaction when I first saw anything about this game was "Ehhhh Revelations 2 I don't know it doesn't look ver- HOLY SHIT IT'S BARRY! YES! TAKE MY MONEY CAPCOM!"
I actually ♥️ RE Rev. 2 ✓ hot Claire ✓ offline co-op ✓ new environment ✓ classic Barry ✓ pyramid head wannabe ✓ skill editing ✓ hand 2 hand combat ✓ inventory display ✓ classic costumes ✓ movie like feel ✓ healing options ✓ new enemies ✓ blinding flash light
Yeah love the "tourniquet" sub healing option if you didn't want to waste an entire herb....just wish there was a shortcut button for the sub healing options lol
I think Capcom is unwilling or downright incapable of delivering a traditional survival horror game akin to RE1-3 because the urge to replicate the same RE4 formula is always there. This is why i love and hate RE4 at the same time. That being said, Revelations 2 looked, sounded and played better than most recent numbered entries. Alex's presence was definitely threatening and her motivation felt more meaningful than Saddler's, Simmons' or fake Ada's. The story and cast of characters were also better than what we're used to. Except for Moira... she and Ashley can hold hands and fall off a cliff... while being set on fire.
Thank god in 2019 they have finally found the right balance with RE2 remake. And now we got RE3 remake coming. The dark times are fully behind us. And the Revelation series was a great stepping stone towards the right direction.
Revelations 2 and RE5 are my favorite RE games! What I want to say about Rev2 that wasn't covered her is that this is a great Co-Op game when playing with someone that isn't good at RE or just videogames in general. Playing Claire/Berry as the more videogame expert while a partner that isn't a hardcore gamer controls the simpler Moira/Natalia is a really satisfying experience. You get to focus on protecting them while they can take things easy by mastering finding items and puzzles. This asymmetrical split-screen co-op gameplay is not something I have ever really seen in other games and I think it is a great teaching tool for newer gamers. I would actually play Rev 2 first with a newbie gamer to prepare them to play RE5, RE6, and the Chronical games with me.
it's funny how Capcom made the spin-off Revelations series to be the Survival Horror part of the franchise instead of making the main series more focused on Survival Horror and then making an Action Spin-off series, like... what the hell???????
For a while now I wanted to ask you why you don't mention Resis bonus modes like Mercenaries, Raid Mode etc at all in your Retrospective. Have you no love for them or is it simply enough work already to analize the main parts of each game? On that note, will you talk about Mercenaries 3D as a part of your Retrospective series? Keep up the lovely work ♥
Thanks! I'm glad you're liking the videos. I'll be honest, I've never really liked the raid/challenge/mercenaries modes in RE games. I know a lot of people like them, but they've just never been my cup of tea. So, I try to keep these videos focused on the core.... I guess "RE-ness" of the games. I wasn't planning on covering Mercs 3d, since it was just kind of a stand alone minigame. Also, I would have issues getting footage since i can't record 3ds games, and 3ds emulation of AMD cpus is so bad, I wouldn't be able to get anywhere near a playable framerate.
Actually, on PC you can just click to pick items, so using E and F is pointless. Also, i really liked the invisible monster, the concept of having to aim were the girl was pointing and follow her instructions is awesome.
Nice to see Terra-save get a mention. now correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't The Degeneration CG movie where they introduced it? I'm suprised Capcom rememberd it from all the way back in 2008 7 years after it came out.
Merry Christmas Jared! Just picked up Rev 2 on the Switch and needed to know your take on the port. Originally played it on the XBOX ONE back when it came out and had been wanting to replay it. Picked up a 128 SD card for the Switch and went on a download spree. Picked up REmake 1 and Rev 2 and wanted to see how it played. Not bad for a portable version. If this were the 16-bit era I would have said that this game was a worthy port of it's arcade counterpart (PC, XBOX ONE, PS4). Great video as always
My favorite revelation is that Barry is the dad-est dad that ever dad-ed. Reliving the days of his one gloriously bad Jill sandwich joke that he’s so gosh darn proud of that you’re gonna hear it forever.
God I love Barry in this.
UGH DID HE TELL EVERYBODY THAT STORY
Barry is the coolest game dad ever. Well, one of them anyway.
Barry is a badass in this one
it’ś jibber sandwich is what he said… :/
Since finding your channel a week ago, I have watched every one of these videos..and even went and bought some RE games for a replay.
Im going to game store after I finish up this vid!
That's awesome to hear man! Glad I could provide a bit of entertainment and nostalgia.
James Somogyi thanks bro 🙏
That was my greatest fear at the time
RE7 is important? lul…
Yeah, that was a killer moment.
@@AvalancheReviews Not really.
Agreed, the same thing happened to me too.
We have to give credit to Capcom for making Barry's comeback with his awesome cheesy lines from RE1. WHO IS THE MASTER OF UNLOCKING NOW
I say this all the time lmao
And his call back to “I have this!”
*"Take this, She-Wesker!!"*
Rev2 has one of the best typical RE endings:
Chopper, rocket launcher, slow-motion bullet, cheesy one-liner, ... that's my RE :')
I also enjoyed it more than 7.
You're not wrong. The ending was pure cheese and I loved every minute of it.
@@AvalancheReviews Huh, that's the bit I hated most in the game. Still, I'm coming from the weird position of liking the games but hating everything that defines the franchise.
I really hope they expand on the raid mode even more in the future. Imagine a raid mode with every single RE character, and locations from every game.
I've never been a fan of the raid modes in re games, but I would support them being in every game, for the people who do like them.
Peanut Arbuckle Yes sir, a stand-alone "Raid" title with past RE locations and characters would be a must have for me. Cheers.
My dream game
I absolutely love Claire's model and whoever voiced her was perfect. She sounds exactly like I've always imagined. I love this game.
Re7, re7, re 7, re7.
Shit did you say re7?
It died but now they are doing that with multiplayer, trying to pass it as seasons
I can understand that. After a while you start to wonder if that's how Capcom thinks young people talk.
@@AvalancheReviews She's like that on purpose. She thinks she's being cool and grown up, but she's just a fedora tipping edgelord. It's all clarified in the storyline.
If you were in her situation you would cuss too. Nobody says "Holly molly" when a enraged mutant it's attacking you.
@@lukasmarciano Not really, but whatever. Guess you know me better than I do.
Don't think so to tell the truth. Barry was used because he is a fan favorite and he was never playable in any RE game before this you know!
He was playable briefly in Resident Evil 5 mercenaries
I’d like a story involving billy and Carlos 💪
Billy and Carlos seem to be one off characters that make an appearance and are only playable once then you never hear from them again. They're like sheva. Nikolai is painted as a villain/traitor of sorts so I'm not sure they'd give him his own playable arc since they already have people that kinda fill that slot already Jessica REV 1 and more prominently Ada Wong. I do like Rebecca's odds of getting another game though for some reason
Hunk was originally going to be the main antagonist of the first revelations but they changed it unfortunately :(
Rev 2 is a pretty good game on its own.
Also have you played Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem?
I love this game, I have it on xbox one, and I think it looks, and plays amazing. Feels kinda underrated though imo. I absolutely love raid mode, think I enjoy it more than the actually story mode :)
I never get into RE raid modes, but this one has the most content out of the others for sure.
I feel like Rev 2 is the most underrated entry in the series. It's addition to the lore, more cerebral storytelling and higher difficulty made it stand out to me. Compared to 5 and 6 this was a godsend.
@Calvin Tijares RE4 is the pinnacle of the series for me. I compared this to 5 and 6 as for me, they're the low point of the main numbered entries.
As a die hard RE fans I really enjoy the game.
It's like a love letter to the RE legacy.
Exactly
Very cool review, I really like revelations 2, more classic horror than the first one, plus it was cool to play as Claire again
Raid mode is where it's at.
I never got into RE raid modes, but this one was the most enjoyable for me.
That mode is soooo much fun, even better than Mercenaries
There’s a raid mode? Like survival? Shit I need to try this game.
@@MrGrimlocksmash
Do try.
So far, I'm enjoying it, although I wished it had character voice lines like what they did in Revelations 1.
^the real mvp for mentioning this....
Even though they released an episode every week it made it feel like the game didnt get too stale and we were able to plan out when to play and always excited for the next one, such a memorable experience we'll never forget.
this game was such a breath of fresh air after 5, operation racoon city, and 6. i felt resident evil had finally made a come back
I love this game!
Maybe it's nostalgia since I haven't had the chance to play it again that way, but from one RE fan to another, it deserves that that point of view.
fun fact, when the game first released on PC it was unplayable, they had to release multiple patches until you could play the thing. fun times
Really? Damn, I guess it's a good thing I first played it on ps4.
It's probably uroboros
I was in college when this game first released and I remember being super excited waiting for each new episode. It's kinda nostalgic for me now 🥰
Best reviews ever! I love your reviews. You should Metal Gear Solid reviews that would be awesome! You are great! Keep up the awesome work. You give very fair, unbiased reviews. I love Resident Evil but you can give very objective reviews and that's what I love.
Sombra El Verdugo agree
I played the absolute shit out the Raid mode on PSvita, even with the frame rate issues, was super stoked when the Switch version came out.
I wanted to buy it on Vita, but after seeing many videos of it's performance I decided not to :/
@@asturides same with borderlands 2
Honestly reminds me of RE:0, one character to do the tough fighting, one to provide utilities
... damn, now I'm imagining an RE:0 remake in this style. It's never gonna happen but it'd be pretty badass.
They would be pretty badass. Also, happy birthday!
@@AvalancheReviews Thanks Jared! You da best, homeslice. Keep up the good work!
Revelations 2's coop and online functionality put into an RE0 reimagining could make for a really cool experience.
Big Kenobi yeah this is better than 5, especially in terms that this has more atmosphere and a better story
I disagree with that, mainly due to RE5 having way more polish/production value. Revelations 2 is and feels like a budget title. The stories are a wash for me.
I'd say it's more like what Resident Evil 6 should have been, being a true sequel to RE5, after all.
Revelations 2 was better than the first one. Fight me.
Name a time and place!
Avalanche Reviews I wouldn’t fight you. You’re too cool of a guy to fight.
I agree.
Raid mode in REV2 is shit, maps are artificially open and half of them arent even scary due to how scripted they are, controls are too smooth leading to combat not being scary and deaths being frustrating, it reuses a ton of assets from RE6 (half the guns are from RE6), weapons dont feel even near as good to shoot as those in REV1 which is another carryover from RE6, moira's reapperence in the true ending doesnt make sense unless you buy the DLC, etc, etc, etc.I love REV2, but it bearly gets close to the amazing REV1, its better in some aspects, but overall REV1 is better.
gameplay was way better but the story and twist were not.
I really liked the weird mix of horror/action revalations had. The moments where Barry was saying "She Wesker" was actually pretty funny.
Ha! yeah, plus that's a pretty good description of her too.
im pumped for you finishing this series but at the same time sad because this is one of the few series that i really look forward, but then again its all because of you and how good you are
Yo, I remember I bought revelations 2 at Walmart just because it was "resident evil" always been a fan of the numbered entry's.
Thank you very much! That's awesome!
Revelations 2 was so good and I'm kind of upset that they didn't continue the story in RE7. As much as I enjoyed RE7, it kinda sucks that they just threw out Natalia and Jake. I fully expected RE7 to be about Jake and Natalia/Alex.
Aight, you got me. I'll give it another chance.
Been loving all the Retrospectives man, keep it up!
If count raid mode, this is the first game to have Chris, Jill, Claire, and Leon in it, so that's kinda nifty.
i don't typically get into the raid modes, but even I can admit, this was a really good implementation of it.
I really enjoyed this game and when it came out on the Switch, I bought it for the Resident Evil on the go and the controls play very well in the portable mode
such a pleasure watching every god damn episode! You sir are a hidden gem !
Well thanks man!!! That's damn nice of you.
Re4 is one of my favorite games of all time
This is legit one one my fave games in the series
After 2-remake and maybeeee 7
All the characters are good
Moira MUST return!!! And what happened to Barry??!
I’d love to see a follow up
But I’d also just like to see the old cast again
Ethan was great, but he’s no Leon
And Chris isn’t the same without his sis and 100% platonic friend 100%
no online coop on the PC version really grinded my gears. Love your videos man and this retrospective and has been a pleasure to say the least.
Appreciate the shout out to the Patrons! I always wondered if you knew the difference between my real name and username lol I figured you thought I was 2 different guys.
I'll be honest, I have no idea how I knew that, now that I think about it. Let's assume I'm psychic
Finished it with my sister, split screen, it was an amazing experience, but we were left wanting more
I’m playing this game for the first time now, and I’m glad the first review I discovered for this game was yours because it helped reaffirm what I felt as a long-time RE fan: This game is actually good lol
Didn’t realise you uploaded this since I was replaying re5 absolutely love your re reviews, keep up the great work, one of my favourite youtubers ❤️
I loved the hell out of my friend coming over and playing couch co-op mode on this game! 🙂
Rev2 feels like a Code Veronika remake. Minus Steve. Nobody misses Steve
Steve was greatness...."relax beautiful...I said I was sore-rrrry"
After the the out right Micheal Bay Joke that was RE6 (even if you liked it there's no getting around how stupid & not RE it was) this gave me hope for the series & after 7 I thanked the Nemesis I was right :)
I'm just surprised that nobody yet described RE6 as the Paul W.S. Anderson movies in game form.
@@palaiologos4441 No, that's Umbrella Corps.

Man I wish Court was used for her voice again. She embodies the character so damn well.
tbh, I still think RER2 has the best/most balance mix of action + survival horror combat, arguably the best one out all of RE games including the new ones (RE7 & RE2).
Revelations 1 &2 are still my fav up to this day.
I loved REV2...closest to RE4 they've gotten and that was my best RE ever.
Literally playing this game as a warmup for RE4R...man is it a challenge. Will be on this one for a long time till Capcom releases the DLCs for 4 Remake...the writing and storyline for this entry are terrific!
I became obsessed with Raid mode, was all I played for a year chasing those Rainbows.
Y'know rent's note due until the 1st of the month, so I'll go ahead & bump myself up to $5. xoxo
I'm waiting to see a new comment on this next month saying "well, I got kicked out for being 5$ short on the rent" HA! Thanks man!
😂
I played it first on pc at 4K and it looked amazing. Clare’s ass never looked so good. Also the part where you fight the mutated Pedro was extra creepy for me.
alex was always said to be the only other wesker alive besides albert, and it was said that spenser kept her at his side, truth be told the fact she never showed up before felt like a loose end to any hardcore lore players
Well its Halloween so I'm back to rewatch the whole Avalanche RE Retrospectives.
Barry makes this game incredible. Doing my first play through and just finished episode 1. Can’t wait to play more !
yeah he's just as likable in this, as he was in the first game. I liked his voice actor a lot.
✓ hot Claire
✓ offline co-op
✓ new environment
✓ classic Barry
✓ pyramid head wannabe
✓ skill editing
✓ hand 2 hand combat
✓ inventory display
✓ classic costumes
✓ movie like feel
✓ healing options
✓ new enemies
✓ blinding flash light
Congrats on the patreon support boost, this is quality content worth the investment.
Thank you!
All thanks to me.
haha just kidding :D
Im sad no more Jills Bootys in a tight suit with a good Perspective on it ^^
But looks like a good game. The First one looks more apealing in my eyes.
海坊主 I always preferred Claire over Jill
I see you are a person of refined taste like me. Jill is the best in our hearts.
She is on multyplayer mode on this game, I think
It’s all about Rebecca
Great review as always, but why didn't you mention the Raid mode, and btw I love the invisible enemies they add a lot of tension
Hopefully in Revelations 3 we'll get to see Billy Coen again. I've been itching to see him show up again.
Alex is not really Weskers sister. They were both just kidnapped as kids by umbrella and were booth part of the same experiment "Wesker-Project"
It's always funny hearing other youtuber's names in the patreon shoutouts.
Barry was amazing he needs to be in more RE games . His dad jokes were too good.
Hey man I subbed just now! I been watching your RE retrospective videos on here for a few days now. I'm a nerd at RE too. Nice shit, I love it
Awesome of Capcom to bring one of Barry’s famous quote from the first game back into a modern game.
it's funny how Capcom made the spin-off Revelations series to be the Survival Horror part of the franchise instead of making the main series more focused on Survival Horror and then making an Action Spin-off series, like... what the hell???????
Absolutely love your channel and working through all your great content! Thank you and keep it up ❤
Revelation 2 was a great game. But where it truly shines for me is its raid mode. Once it gets goiNg, IT GOES.
Nice to see Terra-save get a mention. now correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't The Degeneration CG movie where they introduced it? I'm suprised Capcom rememberd it from all the way back in 2008 7 years after it came out.
Unit #522 is a fantastic horror story channel! So cool to see him supporting creators of content he also loves.
