I have the same exact problem with my 1992 Firebird 3.1L V6, It is the Throttle Position Sensor. When you replace it, it has to go on exactly how it the old one was on previously, or it will run worse than it did.
you are all real niggas just needed u to know.. i love these birds i got a 1990 camaro if anybody wants to trade for a week or some shit i like the late 2nd gens and 3rd gen trans ams ;D
Not sure if it is the same thing but mine sounded just like this runs the exact same way mine did, I had a bad distributor, intake manifold leak, exhaust manifold leak, and full tune up, did all that work and now she purrs like a kitten, oh and I had to adjust all lifters, yes all that work for a 2.8 v-6, mine is a 1989 firebird
35. Idle speed can not be set to desired RPM 36. Burn off at mass air flow sensor OR Problem in transmission shift OR Fault in direct ignition system OR Missing pulses in electronic spark timing signal 37. N/A 38. Fault in torque converter clutch brake switch 39. Fault in torque converter clutch circuit 41. Fault at cam sensor OR Cylinder select error OR Tach input error 42. Fault at electronic spark timing circuit OR Fault at direct ignition system OR Fault at fuel cutoff relay circuit
Ok, I have a similar problem but its still in progress to find out. Idle RPM around 500-700 rough running, sometimes going too low with engine cut out. I find out that one spark plug wasnt working well, why the cap and the fingers are done. Replaced it, still wont run constantly. Checked the ignition coils, they are fine. Thereafter find out that the (controlled) catalyst is probably blocked since its possible it got damaged due to the unburned fuel from the ignition in the cylinder which wasnt igniting perfectly. its replaced and still got the problem with a rough running engine cutting out on low rpm. Thereafter cleaned the injection system but its still not working. Now its in progress to check if the timing chain may be the fault and the ignition timing. I find out that the gears of the chain are made from plastic! It is more than possible that they are broken. If this is not working, there is no other way as to take the cylinder head off and check if all valves are working properly. It is also possible that they simply burn off and get damaged due to incorrect ignition timing or temperatures or pressure when the complete ignitionsystem isnt working. And of course before doing that check the fuel and oil system as well as air mass sensor as well as battery charge. (but those are things you can do without big trouble)
you might also think to check your exhaust.sounds plugged up and baffles all broken .cut cat off and check head gaskets .its not alwys electrical .but worth changing all sensors they are not that expensive..good luck..
i have a camaro 2.8 v6 i get the serpentine belt out to repair alternator, and now the belt doesn`t want to fit ,i know the order of serpentine belt, yesterday i get it out and put it back,,,but now doesn`t want at all...do you know what`s hapening?
Lol....it's clearly open exhaust....if it were a clogged cat, it would be backfiring through the egr valve. Check the vacuum with a gauge. Next, using a Haynes repair manual, check the sensors using the books values with a multimeter. That's all you need to properly diagnose this.
32. Fault in barometric pressure sensor circuit OR Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR Fault in electronic vacuum regulator valve 33. High voltage (low vacuum) at mass air flow sensor (or MAP sensor) 34. Low voltage (high vacuum) at mass air flow sensor (or MAP sensor)
check fuel filter and max air flow censor and check your cars battery charge, we did all the things I just listed to me and my dads 1991 firebird and it started up first try.
Check the ohms on the injectors the original injectors tend to go bad and make the car run horrible and their is no way the computer can help you diagnose this problem.. this is something you will just have to manually check
I have the problem on my 86 2.8. Ive replaced alot of the things that i thought caused it but it still runs like ass and wont idle. Also struggles to build rpm. Never taking out my injectors but i will check those when i can
Need a tune up. Check timing with the timing light new spark plugs good ground battery idle adjustment. I think it have exhaust escape. etc. Good luck.

try the ignition module. they heat up in those cars

check your fireing order to your coil pack on the car
check the plugs make sure its the correct firing order
My 92 v6 rs camaro wit do anything with a fresh battery in it from the key I can turn it over from the starter but will not turn on
New maf or map sensor can be a ecm as well
Hey did you ever find out what was the problem?
Where is the line coming off the intake going to ?

33 is map sensor signal out of range(too high) and 43 is knock sensor
my 1992 firebird was doing the same thing, turned out it was my egr valve was bad. changed that and problem went away. had a electronic egr valve

rivet hitting up against the wheel cover
My 1992 RS Camaro 3.1 is doing this exact same thing, getting code 45.
Need a tune up. Check timing with the timing light new spark plugs good ground battery idle adjustment. I think it have exhaust escape. etc. Good luck.
What code was it ?
What ended up being the problem
dude try your spark plugs i had same problem new plugs fixed right away
Its a bucket
That does not sound healthy
Its old stale gas.
temp sen
Shut it off sounds horrible
It sounds like your timing is way off.
Anthony Medina it would not start if it was behind time ...
