  • Harbor Freight's chipper shredder from Portland seemed like the perfect solution to solve my need for such a machine to handle the various branches and garden debris that is common around any yard. Previously I would put it out at the curb for recycling, but I thought I could make better use of it in my yard if I was able to chip and shred the wood myself.
In this video I show how well the Portland Chipper Shredder works, the size of material it can handle, some of the safety features it offers, and whether it's a good product for the price.

Thanks! I've been using mine this winter as I had a number of tree branches come down as well as prunings done on trees around my property. It's been working great all along. Well worth the price. Keep your eyes open for a 25% (or a rare 30%) off coupon!

Thanks! I’ve found it very useful for the large majority of branches I need to get rid of. The rest that doesn’t fit will go in the fireplace

How would one feed leaves into this device? Since the opening is closed until something gets pushed in, I’m thinking one would just have to put handfuls on top and use that push tool to get stuff in. Not sure how efficient it would be with the hopper being closed. Thoughts?

I’ve tried and it’s not worth the effort. The opening is much too narrow to put them in. And with the flaps blocking the way it makes it more work than it would be worth.

Are you using a reg 15 amp cb or a kitchen 20 amp cb? Does it trip breakers? Can the blades be removed / replaced?

Regular 15 amp breaker. Also, if you watch the video I show to to change or replace the blades. Well worth watching because there are some unique points about the blades.

I bet some people could get themselves stuck in a Mountain Dew bottle. Best to stay away from these man tools
