Thanks for tuning in! I specialize in solving lawn problems and implementing strategies to fix lawn problems. Weather you have crabgrass that's not dying, too much thatch, lawn fungus, over watering problems or an ugly lawn there's not a lawn problem I can't solve. Try the Ginja 5 Steps to diagnosing a lawn you'll be glad you did. Don't forget to checkout my playlist.
On todays episode we checkout three chipper shredder machines. These machines are designed to shred, chip and create mulch out of twigs, branches, trees and bushes.
I go through a series of tests to see how well these machines create wood chips. These mulcher machines are a great tool to have around for yard cleanup. The machines are able to mulch chip and shred branches and twigs even with the leaves attached. Making leaf cleanup made easy. Please let me know your thoughts and hit me up in the comments below. - Навчання та стиль

What did Baby Boy say? 'Love you Daddy!' ('Cause your a NUT! lol)
you are making money by promoting a company that works hard to harm the american worker. hopefully your next review is seeing which gas powered wood chipper can best re-enact on your ass that scene from the movie Fargo...
What would be cool, is to see how they hold up long-term.
I know that is a stretch for a review.
Extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing. For some strange reason, beyond explanation... I suddenly feel the need to own a shredder/chipper! :-)
LOL do it!
I was looking at the earthwise but after watching this I went with the Sun Joe 602 which was $200 less than the other 2. I primarily need it as a chipper for twigs, sticks, branches. I've used it a few times now, for over an hr each time and had no issues. I'm so glad I watched this video!
Hello mister Ginja I want to thank you for everything you been helping every single one of us. Watching you videos it make me working harder and happy. You make work easy with your great information. Happy thanksgiving to all of you family friends and people watching you.
Super kind! Thank you!
LG... August this year I looked at a gazillion platforms for a mulcher shredder... Ended up saying "will these toys (less than $700) disappoint?" And told myself "FORGET ABOUT IT". At that time. I liked the Earthwise... YOUR COMPREHENSIVE DEMONSTRATION WAS SO REAL... No dog in the fight... Compelling ANALYSIS... HOW YOU COMMUNICATED is a GIFT...and I owe you a debt of gratitude... I'm 74 and I needed the help of some equipment but quit on the idea because I thought I would be disappointed... And spend money I didn't have for the privilege. EARTHWISE IT IS ...THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!🙋🌹GA USA 10-31-22👍👍👍
Thanks so much! Love messages like these. I really enjoy doing reviews. so happy to hear you found value in my video.
@@PestandLawnGinja LG... I bought and used the EARTHWISE chipper last season and it was fabulous... IT WAS NOT A TOY... I'm very organized so I had all my brush piles in order of complexity... And took a minute to groom the debris to what I knew the machine liked... SUPER DUPER EXPERIENCE AND THAT WOOD MULCH WAS SO FINE AND LOVELY... It's exactly what I needed!!! I AM EVER GRATEFUL...🙋🌹GA USA 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💕
@@sarahrose1665 rad! love hearing it.
Thank you for this review. I have the 602. Had it for 4 years now. I'm pleased to know it didn't pass as being the worst ☺️
Glad it was helpful!
Lawn Ginja: Your videos seem to be custom made for me. I know that is not true of course but the content is all about garden things I am interested in and NEED help with. Thank you so much for taking time to make these videos
You're welcome Larry! Thanks so much for watching and commenting
14ga wire is fine. Just make sure you're on a circuit that can handle more than 15amps. Wire will just get warm if you're running it a really long time.
The view on the mountains behind your house is breathtaking.
Thanks! We are very fortunate
@@PestandLawnGinja That looks like Mt. Timp in Utah County. AHHHEEEH?
This is the best of many videos I have seen about electric mulch machines comparison. I did help me in selecting the machine that is right for me, the Earthwise. Thank you.
Huge compliment Jorge! Thank you!
These three are exactly what I have on my list. So glad I found your clip, thank you so much for the review.
Glad it was helpful!
Which one did you buy? Was it worth it?
Thorough and excellent review video. This made our decision on which unit to purchase SO much easier! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Clearly someone at SunJoe once worked in the auto industry.
“Hey you know what this machine needs....cupholders! People love cupholders!”
😂😂😂 so funny. I'll bet you're right
It kinda looks like the center console from some kind of vehicle. Maybe they just reused the injection molds from something else.
good call!
No Bluetooth? Why no Bluetooth?
This morning I was out chopping out brush at first light. It was 86 F at sunrise, and going up. I have a bottle holder bolted to my Gorilla Cart, cause it’s hydrate or get sick. Clothes completely soaked in a half hour.
Cup holders are a feature, not a joke.
I set a timer to pick up at 9:30, when my skin starts scorching. Welcome to the South.
Your view of the mountain is amazing.
Thanks so much! You rock man. Really appreciate the time you took to show us all this. So helpful.
Happy to help! Glad you found value!
I NEEDED this video...thank you for taking the time to review all of them.....the mountains in the back are SICK...what a view🗻
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching Alisa!!!
Man...I wish you'd done this review last year. I have over 6 hours with the 603E so far and while I have never had problems with it slowing or not chomping anything I put in, everything else you said about it was spot on with my experience. Chute gets packed and needs to be cleared and it chunks woody material not chip. If I had to do it over, for my use, I'd choose the Earthwise.
Good to know! I was a little worried I got a bad unit
I really appreciate the thorough review, showing the material and your honesty. Really helped me out than all those videos that show a list of pros and cons and the manufacturer's advertising video.
Thank you, thank you!!
Thanks for the feedback!
You're so much fun to watch. Thanks for this video!
Thank you! Really appreciate you watching and commenting
deciding on the earthwise after much research n youtubing. thanks for the review homie!
Fantastic video. Thank you for being so thorough.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for you time 🤝
The heavy Sunjoe chipping cherry wood... perfect for making cherry chips for your smoker
Right!? That's what I'm sayin
That is exactly what I thought.
Excellent review! You really covered the stuff I want to know about. Like you, I expected the heaviest machine to perform best.
Excellent comparison video! Thanks for your effort. I’m going with Earthwise!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the review. Went with the Earthwise because of your recommendation.
Hope you enjoy it!
What an incredible way to recycle all the good stuff back to whence it came!
Ahhh yeah! Pretty satisfying too
Thank you for taking the time to do this comparison. So helpful. Blessings...
Glad it was helpful! It was a fun project!
We ended up purchasing the Earthwise at a discount store. It does a great job and it’s easy to use by yourself.
@@daisygurl3601 awesome. good on you
crap, and just when I talk myself out of buying one of those leaf mulchers in your last video(been doing fine mowing them into the lawn with my Greenworks 80v Pro, no rake'n n gather'n) now I got to make space in my garage to keep one of these *sigh* man kinda love/hate'n on you right now for turning me on, as I didn't even know they had 'leaf mulchers'(from the last video) nor these home 'brush shredders' kinda want/need now .... I spent years trying to convince my wife that 'we have the kind of compost pile with sticks in it' which she said isn't right - well I might end up losing that argument now, tho it would be a win in the long run as my compost will now be happier and more functional
[btw, thank you to Big Ned for sharing his life with us, he will live forever in many of our hearts]
😂😂😂 you're welcome! Save your money and get a bigger unit. Harbor freight has a few $400 options. But with that said that little sunjoe worked well for the $
Thanks for the reviews - very helpful!
Great video! You’re a natural at presentations. I have palm tree fronds to chop up. All I can do is try one. Thanks again for your time!
So nice of you! if the fronds are dry it....... might work. i'm not optimistic if they're fresh
We need more videos like this!
great feedback. I will have more coming.
I'm looking to buy an earthwise for my dad on Christmas. He does yard work and such and after this vid, I'm certain he's gonna love it 😃
That is awesome! Good on you!
I got a Dorite 6.5HP wood chipper that I can tow behind my ride on mower and it's a reliable beast that'll chip some pretty big branches for the engine horsepower and the Loncin Honda Clone starts first pull every time.
Definitely got it's cons being a belt driven chipper though if you jam it the belt will snap if you don't hit the emergency stop button as I nearly did shortly after I got it.
Nice video. You helped me out a lot. I was looking at chippers today and realized I am one of those that needs to spend the money and get a gasoline powered chipper. I have five maple tree's that are 65 years old each. They were all planted on the same day and they grow past 30 feet. I have to have them topped. But even still, I have branches all the time. I had so many that I sat down on a chair and broke them up and sawed them and put them in 18 brown lawn bags. The big limbs, I sawed up into firewood.
Money maker! Split 3 nice size logs. Throw on top some small branches and twigs. Tie that up with twine. Then put out a sign "CAMPFIRE WOOD $5.00 BUNDLE". I actually made 40 bundles and if you bought two or more you got another tied set of twigs. I sold out on a friday afternoon in about 3 hours. One guy bought 4 bundles and got 4 twig bundles free and he said that would goes for $20 a bundle down by a lake . So, even though I only made 200 bucks, it was still 200 bucks instead of paying someone to haul them away. I still need the shredder.
That’s awesome $$$$
Thanks for the comparison video. I have bought and used a number of leaf/branch chippers and found each has its issues. For ONE, it works best if the branches are still moist but the leaves are DRY. Moist or wet leaves clog up the chutes while the moist branches cut easier. SECOND...straight branches go easiest...but branches that Y out become hard to feed into narrow chutes. They jam at the connection points. I did use both a medium and smaller shredder together for best results. The larger one to chomp into chunks...and then pour the chunks into the smaller unit to grind the chunks into finer pieces. At times I sprayed silicone lube into the hoppers to minimize sticky jam-ups if some damp leaves or juicy material was in the mix. It helps avoid hopper CLOG and downtime dismantling the units to clear the blades. Lastly, the electric units are no match against a gas unit which has much more thrust and power. NOW, how about doing a comparison video on maintaining , sharpening and replacing the blades on these machines. Harbor Freight sells a variety of models but obtaining parts is a struggle. Such is life. Waiting for the additional videos...... J K
Totally agree James! Gotta save up my pennies for the other comparison videos. Love the idea. thanks for watching and sharing your knowledge.
I HAD a 603E waiting to be shipped. switched my order after seeing this video. Thanks Ginja!
Good choice!
Good job getting that in before this storm hit!
Kinda lucky hahaha.
Very helpful video! Saw exactly what I needed to see to make my decision! Very glad I watched this before getting the 603! It wouldn’t have worked out for what I need it for.
Glad it was helpful!
THANK YOU! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR HOURS!
Glad I could help!
Me to
Thanks for your review/comparison! I was looking at both the SunJoe 602 and the EarthWise, so your video was spot on for me and a big help deciding which to order
Glad it was helpful! It was a fun experiment
So which did you order? And hows it working as of now? I am also debating on the two you mentioned. Thanks!
@@passion4vintage559 Got the EarthWise. Still getting some use clearing up small branches (under 1.5" inches diameter, about) after storms; relatively light use, but holding up well. I like it! Would buy same for replacement, if necessary. Simple, but always just works, barring one slight caveat.
My only minor complaint (more of a nitpick), if can even call it that: the screw to unlock the hatch (say, to clear a jam), takes a lot of turns by hand, fine if jam once or twice but can get annoying if keeps happening; so go slow, ie feed sticks intentionally vs jamming random handfuls in at once, to avoid repeat jamming, will save time overall. That said, while I would prefer a quick latch or the like, I think the long threaded bolt is intended to be a safety mechanism
I'm quite impressed overall for an electric residential unit, so long as its use case is kept in perspective--a proper gas chipper would eat any electric chipper for lunch, but that's a whole different can of worms :) good luck, whichever you choose!
Now that's what I want for Christmas! Thanks!
Awesome!
OMG. That mountain at the back of your house. Absolutely beautiful view. Thanks for the review; I am going with the Earthwise.
These mountains are amaZing
This was a great and incredibly helpful review. Big thumbs up. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
This is great! Thank you! Just what I was looking for!
Perfect!
great review video, i went with the earthwise, i have lots of tree branches and limbs to chip. I first used it today and it did great.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, this was helpful!
Love your channel! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much!
Great review, I'm needing one, and this helped a lot. I can't watch a video of stuff going through a chipper/shredder without thinking of that scene in the movie Fargo.
Thanks for watching! hahaha, too funny about fargo.
Awesome video and so helpful thank you so much
You are so welcome!
Great review! Down to the point! Lots of facts. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent detail in your analyses!!!! I just bought a 602 after combing lots of reviews and videos but did not come across yours until “post purchase decision.”
Awesome, thank you! It's a decent machine for what it does.
this was an excellent comprehenisve review. really appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
what a great video, so glad i watched this before buying one.
breaking down the different types of yard waste you put through it was really helpful. (pun intended)
Glad it was helpful!
I bought the grey CJ602E 15-amp last year, it was the color at the time under $100.
Makes great mulch.
Great for sticks, and small branches, let the green/wet stuff dry before chipping. It's better with twigs when the blades are new and when the twigs have dried hard.
Great feedback! Thanks francis
Is it still working? Do you think ot is still worth 100
Still working, also bought another blade for it but haven't reversed the one on it yet. I think a new one is still worth $100 which the red one is right now.
Thanks for the review. I used your amazon links and just bought the Earthwise and the suggested extension cord.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to make such a detailed review
Appreciate that! Thanks for watching and commenting
Excellent review!
👊😁 thanks
THANK YOU - this was excellent!
You’re welcome!
Will probably buy the earthwise simply for the container - seems like a good value add to be able to shred and tote the stuff all at once with no raking shoveling sweeping etc
The tote makes a huge difference. My only issue is paying attention to the levels inside the tote so it doesn't get plugged up
I like that earth one... the bin itself is a selling point
it's true!
Great video brother. I know what I’m asking myself for Christmas lol! Have great holidays Ginja!!
Thanks Paul! Merry Christmas!
Very helpful. First time I've ever used an affiliate link but you deserved the support for sure.
Thanks! Super kind.
Nice review
Helped me decide and bought sunjoe 602
Thanks
Glad I could help
Very helpful video.
Glad it was helpful!
great analysis, thank you for the info
Thank you!!!!
Thanks man, your video helped me make a decision regarding these these 3 models.
Perfect!
Thank you so much for this great comparison! I've almost checked-out the sun joe green but i guess i would go with earthwise because of the bin lmao.
that green is hideous hahaha
Earthwise looks like the winner to me!
You're the real trophy in the situation
This was great. Was looking at these 3, glad you made this video. I’m going to go with the 602.
Glad I could help
i bought the cheap sun joe mine is green instead of the red looking back i like the basket of the eathwise because the mulch will go all over that said all these electric chippers are great but i finally broke down and bought a gas chipper . in the end no matter which you use if you have a pile you will be tired at the end of the day. i actually bagged mine last year in black garbage bags and left them for month and when i opened and poured them around my trees what beautiful mulch i had .
gas chippers are next level. i'm sure you are very happy with your decision.
Found the Earthwise on sale for $120! One of the best purchases ive ever made!
rad!
More good info. Thanks!
You're welcome! Have a great day
Great video, that would be perfect for grilling 👍👍
Great idea!
Very impressed!
Thanks!
Great video, thank you!
My pleasure!
Just received my new SJ603E...and the handle was completely busted when I took it out of the box. Silver lining? Sending it back and getting the Earthwise. Thanks for the excellent demo!
Right on! You're welcome!
Thanks for the video, I was undecided over the Eathwise and the 602. Got the 602 on Prime Day for$98 compared to $153 for the earthwise. I'll get a plastic bin at the dollar store for $5 to catch the clippings. I'm a cheap ass. So the sunjoe 602 was the one for me
Awesome
Great review! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Good work. Big thanks!
Happy to help!
Thanks for an excellent video and tests. It helped me to pick and order the Earthwise instead of the Sunjoe 603!
Glad I could help!
thank you for this video
My pleasure. Thanks for watching
Thank you. Very helpful
You're welcome!
thanks for the comparison. I was going to get the 603e, but am now taking a close look at the earthwise.
You're welcome!
I got the Earthwise and am very pleased with it after a few hours of use so far. I have had it jam up a couple of times, but it is relatively easy to open up and clean out. I've also been double grinding some batches to get the stringy stuff and larger leaf bits a bit smaller. And, yes, I'm collecting branches from my neighbor! Componst on!
I am thinking of getting one of these. We live on the river and tons of dry driftwood washes up that would be perfect for mulching. I think the Earthwise would be the way to go for us.
awesome. hope it works out.
Dude! The 603e has cup holders!??? I'm sold!
Great vid. Bought the 602 before seeing this. It was a good choice.
Right on!
Awesome 👌 review thank 😊 you brother
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
After some impromptu tree trimming (I have 6 large trees on my property) I ran over to Harbor Freight and picked up their electric shredder for just over a hundred bucks and I couldn't be happier. Most of my trees are maple and the branches are fairly straight and it chewed through those like butter. The oak branches are a little tougher, mainly because they are crooked so feeding them is a little more difficult, but it still made short work of them. If your branches have a lot of leaves on them, I'd recommend letting them sit a day or two to dry out as the dry leaves seem to go through better than wet.
That's awesome! I'll have to check that out
@@PestandLawnGinja Great timing. Would you believe I just got back from the store with a cargo hatch full of preemergent, fert and seed? Everything here in KY just thawed out from the winter storm and it's flirting with 60 today. I'm hoping the last of the snow will melt this week and I can at least get some seed down so it can germinate as soon as the ground temps come up.
@@ajhieb no I don't believe it. Crazy!
I have a chipper/shredder from Harbor Freight. Users need earplugs plus earmuffs to protect your hearing, but it chops and shreds well. Serious machine.
I've heard about those loud beasts. Need to try it
those mountains in the background!
we are very spoiled! Thanks for watching
Thanks for another great video. More “whats wrong with my lawn!!” Please!
2020 for sure! Ground here is frozen
Lol Right now it would be a very short vid.. “umm.... the ground is frozen”
👊😂
Thank you sir
You're welcome!
Great video! Appreciate including the safety equipment. Gloves with an elastic cuff like what you're using are exactly what you need. The traditional leather work gloves with large cuffs should be avoided. Also, not sure of the noise level but hearing protection never hurts.
Thanks for the feedback ben. Have a great day
Nice review thanks
You’re welcome!
Looks lik SunJoe gave you a matching pair of shoes too. Lol.
The 602 looks exactly like the harbor freight chipper that I just bought. If I had the choice to do again, I think I would go with the 603. I like it chunky. And cupholders!!!
Right on Tom!
Thank you
Happy to help
I have the Sunjoe 601 for three years now and it's done a decent job, similar to the 602. Leaves passes right through but solid branches come out beautiful. When I went to remove the bolts to replace the blade last year, it completely stripped, and now I'm screwed. Not sure how to get it out since it sits flush with the blade. To add to that, Sun Joe was out of stock on blades all last year, and now they're out of bolts. I may just replace the chipper next year with the Earthwise, since I'm at my wits' end and I like the container comes with it. The materials makes a mess it you don't have something to contain it. I ordered the Sun Joe dethatcher AJ801E a few days ago.
love the feedback. thank you
Wow!! Great review!!♡♡♡ Thank you for sharing! New subbie!!
Thanks for subbing!
OMG, I SO needed this!! Thank you!! I just ordered the Earthwise. I hope they're making them as good today as 4 years ago when you posted this. Other sources were ranking the SunJoe CJ603 (not the red one) as best, BUT!! Even tho it gets over 4 stars on Amazon, I always read the low stars, too. They had one big complaint in common. Warned would-be purchasers, in fact, to NOT buy it in spite of how well it performed because, of the two replaceable parts - blades and counterplates - the counterplates nearly always brake and are near impossible to find, even when you contact SunJoe directly. They said, don't buy it unless & until you already have a spare counterplate. After searching the web to find one, I called SJ & got the same runaround as those low stars did. I was told they were out of stock because it's spring, so would I like to be placed on a wait list. I said yes even tho the low stars said that after many months they were still waiting.
that sounds super frustrating. thanks for sharing
