    Thanks for tuning in! I specialize in solving lawn problems and implementing strategies to fix lawn problems. Weather you have crabgrass that's not dying, too much thatch, lawn fungus, over watering problems or an ugly lawn there's not a lawn problem I can't solve. Try the Ginja 5 Steps to diagnosing a lawn you'll be glad you did. Don't forget to checkout my playlist.
    On todays episode we checkout three chipper shredder machines. These machines are designed to shred, chip and create mulch out of twigs, branches, trees and bushes.
    I go through a series of tests to see how well these machines create wood chips. These mulcher machines are a great tool to have around for yard cleanup. The machines are able to mulch chip and shred branches and twigs even with the leaves attached. Making leaf cleanup made easy. Please let me know your thoughts and hit me up in the comments below.

    I was looking at the earthwise but after watching this I went with the Sun Joe 602 which was $200 less than the other 2. I primarily need it as a chipper for twigs, sticks, branches. I've used it a few times now, for over an hr each time and had no issues. I'm so glad I watched this video!

    LG... August this year I looked at a gazillion platforms for a mulcher shredder... Ended up saying "will these toys (less than $700) disappoint?" And told myself "FORGET ABOUT IT". At that time. I liked the Earthwise... YOUR COMPREHENSIVE DEMONSTRATION WAS SO REAL... No dog in the fight... Compelling ANALYSIS... HOW YOU COMMUNICATED is a GIFT...and I owe you a debt of gratitude... I have over 6 hours with the 603E so far and while I have never had problems with it slowing or not chomping anything I put in, everything else you said about it was spot on with my experience. Chute gets packed and needs to be cleared and it chunks woody material not chip. If I had to do it over, for my use, I'd choose the Earthwise.

    crap, and just when I talk myself out of buying one of those leaf mulchers in your last video(been doing fine mowing them into the lawn with my Greenworks 80v Pro, no rake'n n gather'n) now I got to make space in my garage to keep one of these *sigh* man kinda love/hate'n on you right now for turning me on, as I didn't even know they had 'leaf mulchers'(from the last video) nor these home 'brush shredders' kinda want/need now .... I spent years trying to convince my wife that 'we have the kind of compost pile with sticks in it' which she said isn't right - well I might end up losing that argument now, tho it would be a win in the long run as my compost will now be happier and more functional

    I got a Dorite 6.5HP wood chipper that I can tow behind my ride on mower and it's a reliable beast that'll chip some pretty big branches for the engine horsepower and the Loncin Honda Clone starts first pull every time.
    Definitely got it's cons being a belt driven chipper though if you jam it the belt will snap if you don't hit the emergency stop button as I nearly did shortly after I got it.

  • @thekingtroll2
    @thekingtroll2 Рік тому +1

    Nice video. You helped me out a lot. I was looking at chippers today and realized I am one of those that needs to spend the money and get a gasoline powered chipper. I have five maple tree's that are 65 years old each. They were all planted on the same day and they grow past 30 feet. I have to have them topped. But even still, I have branches all the time. I had so many that I sat down on a chair and broke them up and sawed them and put them in 18 brown lawn bags. The big limbs, I sawed up into firewood.
    Money maker! Split 3 nice size logs. Throw on top some small branches and twigs. Tie that up with twine. Then put out a sign "CAMPFIRE WOOD $5.00 BUNDLE". I actually made 40 bundles and if you bought two or more you got another tied set of twigs. I sold out on a friday afternoon in about 3 hours. One guy bought 4 bundles and got 4 twig bundles free and he said that would goes for $20 a bundle down by a lake . So, even though I only made 200 bucks, it was still 200 bucks instead of paying someone to haul them away. I still need the shredder.

  • @jameskrivitsky9715
    @jameskrivitsky9715 4 роки тому +9

    Thanks for the comparison video. I have bought and used a number of leaf/branch chippers and found each has its issues. For ONE, it works best if the branches are still moist but the leaves are DRY. Moist or wet leaves clog up the chutes while the moist branches cut easier. SECOND...straight branches go easiest...but branches that Y out become hard to feed into narrow chutes. They jam at the connection points. I did use both a medium and smaller shredder together for best results. The larger one to chomp into chunks...and then pour the chunks into the smaller unit to grind the chunks into finer pieces. At times I sprayed silicone lube into the hoppers to minimize sticky jam-ups if some damp leaves or juicy material was in the mix. It helps avoid hopper CLOG and downtime dismantling the units to clear the blades. Lastly, the electric units are no match against a gas unit which has much more thrust and power. NOW, how about doing a comparison video on maintaining , sharpening and replacing the blades on these machines. Harbor Freight sells a variety of models but obtaining parts is a struggle. Such is life. Waiting for the additional videos...... J K

      @@passion4vintage559 Got the EarthWise. Still getting some use clearing up small branches (under 1.5" inches diameter, about) after storms; relatively light use, but holding up well. I like it! Would buy same for replacement, if necessary. Simple, but always just works, barring one slight caveat.
      My only minor complaint (more of a nitpick), if can even call it that: the screw to unlock the hatch (say, to clear a jam), takes a lot of turns by hand, fine if jam once or twice but can get annoying if keeps happening; so go slow, ie feed sticks intentionally vs jamming random handfuls in at once, to avoid repeat jamming, will save time overall. That said, while I would prefer a quick latch or the like, I think the long threaded bolt is intended to be a safety mechanism
      I'm quite impressed overall for an electric residential unit, so long as its use case is kept in perspective--a proper gas chipper would eat any electric chipper for lunch, but that's a whole different can of worms :) good luck, whichever you choose!

    I bought the grey CJ602E 15-amp last year, it was the color at the time under $100.
    Makes great mulch.
    Great for sticks, and small branches, let the green/wet stuff dry before chipping. It's better with twigs when the blades are new and when the twigs have dried hard.

I've also been double grinding some batches to get the stringy stuff and larger leaf bits a bit smaller. And, yes, I'm collecting branches from my neighbor! Componst on!

    After some impromptu tree trimming (I have 6 large trees on my property) I ran over to Harbor Freight and picked up their electric shredder for just over a hundred bucks and I couldn't be happier. Most of my trees are maple and the branches are fairly straight and it chewed through those like butter. The oak branches are a little tougher, mainly because they are crooked so feeding them is a little more difficult, but it still made short work of them. If your branches have a lot of leaves on them, I'd recommend letting them sit a day or two to dry out as the dry leaves seem to go through better than wet.

Everything here in KY just thawed out from the winter storm and it's flirting with 60 today. I'm hoping the last of the snow will melt this week and I can at least get some seed down so it can germinate as soon as the ground temps come up.

    I have the Sunjoe 601 for three years now and it's done a decent job, similar to the 602. Leaves passes right through but solid branches come out beautiful. When I went to remove the bolts to replace the blade last year, it completely stripped, and now I'm screwed. Not sure how to get it out since it sits flush with the blade. To add to that, Sun Joe was out of stock on blades all last year, and now they're out of bolts. I may just replace the chipper next year with the Earthwise, since I'm at my wits' end and I like the container comes with it. The materials makes a mess it you don't have something to contain it. I ordered the Sun Joe dethatcher AJ801E a few days ago.

    OMG, I SO needed this!! Thank you!! I just ordered the Earthwise. I hope they're making them as good today as 4 years ago when you posted this. Other sources were ranking the SunJoe CJ603 (not the red one) as best, BUT!! Even tho it gets over 4 stars on Amazon, I always read the low stars, too. They had one big complaint in common. Warned would-be purchasers, in fact, to NOT buy it in spite of how well it performed because, of the two replaceable parts - blades and counterplates - the counterplates nearly always brake and are near impossible to find, even when you contact SunJoe directly. They said, don't buy it unless & until you already have a spare counterplate. After searching the web to find one, I called SJ & got the same runaround as those low stars did. I was told they were out of stock because it's spring, so would I like to be placed on a wait list. I said yes even tho the low stars said that after many months they were still waiting.
