    While I was moving a pile of wood chips this weekend with a shovel and wheelbarrow, all I could think about was how jealous I was of your access to powered equipment. I guess I need to get myself some better equipped friends.

      They don't have rental companies where you're at? Most rental companies will still rent to homeowners. Or try and find a part time gig at a smaller excavation company.

    • @wompinoag
      @wompinoag 2 місяці тому +11

      @CaptainKleeman oh sure, if only I could quite the cheapskate part of my brain. Though the pain in my back this morning is definitely making a persuasive argument towards just renting next time.

      @@wompinoag if your area is anything like mine to hire a small excavator like the CAT will be around 100 a day or 350 to 500 for a week even if I only put 10 hours on it over a week

      If you're mechanically inclined you can buy someones used equipment. It may not be good enough for commercial work anymore but it will usually handle homeowner requirements for the rest of your life. The other option is to get to an equipment auction and pick up a small chinesium 1 ton excavator or a mini-skid steer. I have both now and they're great additions to my Kioti tractor since I didn't spring for the backhoe option. The 2.5-ton excavator I bought was actually cheaper than the backhoe and infinitely more flexible and I paid $4k ($3500+17%tax and fees) for the Mini-Skid out the door. Totally worth it the first time I avoided the shovel and wheel barrow!

      Attended a local fund raiser cookout a few years ago. They were having a silent auction as a fund raiser. I won the use of a mini-excavator for a day. It was delivered on a Friday. That meant pickup was Monday because of the weekend. Not bad for a 35 dollar bid.

    Here in Britain we working class can only dream of having the beautiful properties you have ( property here in Britain is ridiculous expensive) , not a criticism as you’re so hard working you thoroughly deserve all you have acquired/achieved Mike but man I’d be extremely happy to have 10% of your properties and to be able to do similar projects. Excellent as always Mike , best wishes from Britain 👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧

    I shared your channel with another YT person the other day. He was doing some lifting of heavy wood and everyone was screaming at him (through comments) to protect his back. Like you, he doesn’t like to spend money if he can avoid it…I suggested that there are sometimes ways to use existing stuff and old time ingenuity and save both money and back. Of course you learned some of “your stuff” from others, who learned from others, etc.

    Stay the course, it’s looking great, at about the 25 minute marker on, I could spot the grade difference between old and new grade, wow, that building was setting in a swamp every time it rained heavy. They say if the foundation and/or roof aren’t good, either plan on making it good or walk away, because what’s in between is worthless.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Great to see some deferred maintenance getting taken care of, definitely a vast improvement. Almost looks like the last guy to own this place wasn’t very handy with cleaning things up. 😂 Just kidding, I know it’s more like extremely busy and being pulled in a dozen directions at the same time. The improvements your making to this property definitely show. Looking forward to seeing the final project when you get more time and money to invest in it. Wishing you and your family the best.

The whole thing is practice and you're going to get loads of that here. As it stands, the outlook is very good. You have sort of, got a base level you want, now to get the rest of it sorted, but that isn't a problem for you. Excellent work to get this far, in the time you've spent on it , so good luck with the rest. From UK.

    Kudos on getting the HIPA sponsorship. I watched the repairs that you did to the shredder and the new stick on your other channel. That only cost: a little time, a carburetor, and a small risk that the “free” stuff still wouldn’t fire up. In that case, you still had parts. I’m looking for my own marketplace deal and will do the same thing (no YT video though) and will also be ready to fix my own stuff once enough seasons of bad gas (not draining is a bad habit) turning into carb problem. In the past, I either got rid of it or paid for repair.

    It seems to be full steam ahead, with all these projects springing up everywhere I'm frightened to blink, in case I miss something. Any sponsorship or collaboration is OK as long as it helps you to get things done, I don't think any followers will mind if it helps get some content out.
