    Great video.
    Sometimes when I tighten the locknut at the end, the axle turns with it. As I'm holding the cone in place with my cone spanner, this effectively loosens the cone again.
    I do not have an axle vise at the moment.
    Any thoughts/tips?

      sometimes u have to put a 17mm-15mm spanner on both end on of the hub slightly(just slighlty) over tighten... then cone spanner both end to reduce it til just right.. trial and error(IE undo and start again).... or if u have a vise clamp the centre axle with cardboard to protect the thread to stop it spinning... depends on corrosion or how good the tolerences were on the cones lock rings and axle u got...happy trails...

    Does using a magnet to remove bearings cause the bearings to become a bit magnetic also, then bearings can attract metal to them that might cause excessive wear ?

  • @TigerCarpenter
    @TigerCarpenter 3 роки тому

    great instructions, right when I needed them
    I suspect the clutch(es) inside the freehub body are not springing back, because the bike wasn't used for an extended period of time, and was stored outdoors in the tropics.
    is it OK for me to remove the dust cover gently using the gear pulling jaws (I have them) or something, and then clean the inside of the freehub, and put it all back together?
    I know some people will just order a new freehub and replace it, but:
    1. I prefer to fix it if it is possible
    2. the availability of such parts is not guaranteed where I live
    thanks!
    PS
    of course if I find out the clutch(es) is/are broken, I will be forced to buy a new wheel maybe, which is easier than sourcing this freehub for me.
    but I suspect they might be just not springing back because ot he old sticky half dry grease.

    My LBS repacked my rear hub. It was turning well for about 20secs+. Now when I spin it, it only spins for 10-15 secs. there is no play in the axle. Is it because of too tight cone? Does the longer the spin a good indication of correctly adjusted cone or just the smoothness of turning the axle?

    • @Northstar-Media
