THIS is the upgrade guide I’ve been looking for! I have a Greta, Sweettooth Scourge deck that I absolutely love, and when I saw that this set’s squirrels were going to have a lot of the same token synergies that I already have, I knew that I was going to have to combine forces. Thank you so much for this!
Really like the flavor of your list. The esthetic of this set is so important, it would be a shame not preserving it. You stick to it way better than the precon did.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but scurry of squirrels, by itself only makes 4 tokens, in a 4 player game. If A attacks B with cardboard, create a token for players C and D, then do it again. A to B is cardboard, C and D each have 2 tokens attacking them, with a total of 5 scurry of squirrels
The first card I cut was the commander and replaced it with Ygra. That alone made the deck fairly strong. My next steps will be focused on food/token generation. Ygra needs trample, too. If you can pull that off, you'll have a pretty solid deck.
I like the overall strat you picked here, similar to what I had in mind. I also like your format and the clarity that you speak, it's evident you put work into the production of this. As an aside, "cache" as in Bonecache Overseer is pronounced "cash."
Americans pronounce it incorrectly, and then people like you try to correct the rest of the world, when it is you who is wrong. It is 100% pronounced "cashay" as it is derived from Latin, hence the spelling "cache". You are wildly arrogantly incorrect like Americans usually are.
Seriously deleted my comment!!!!!! Wow just wow. Cache is pronounced "Cashay" as it is derived from Latin not American!!!!!!! It is pronounced like the word ricochet (which is also Latin) go on delete it again and once again learn nothing when given facts like your entire country does
@@Boomage1979 I have no idea who deleted your comment, wasn't me. I hadn't even read it. But your rage is pretty amusing. Anyway, I double checked /looked it up before I posted initially, just to verify. It could certainly be derived from Latin, as many words are. But the Oxford English Dictionary and Merriam-Webster dictionaries indicate it is "kash." www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=cache+definition
So the anime-style Squirrel is the alternate art for Hazel of the Rootbloom. To my understanding, this specific printing is only available in collector boosters, so it’s a bit of a pretty penny.
Dont the odd acorn gang may have you draw 3 cards each combat? 1 for each opponent? “Whenever one or more squirrels deal damage to a player” Rather than “whenever one or more squirrels deal damage to one or more players”
I think I lucked out finding mine at Target. I’ve definitely had to resist the urge to buy off some retailer marking theirs up, but it’d definitely be worth the effort to snag it up for close to MSRP.
Awesome video! Just ordered the list and I'll try this out. One thing I noticed, you cut a lot of the Spider creatures, which makes sense, since they're not food or squirrels However, I feel like the deck might become very weak vs Flying, since those spiders seem to be the bigger source of Reach we had. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!
The -1/-1 counter synergies would not work. The text says "on Devoted Druid" or "on Cinderhze Wretch" and "untap", respectively. The food token has that ability, but is not "Devoted Druid" or "Cinderhaze Wretch". The named cards are exiled, so it doesn't matter because they can't tap/untap. If it did work they way you suggest, you would have infinite tap/untap on every food token off a 1 card + 1 of many card combo. Instead the food tokens only benefit from the single tap for mana or tap to make discard, both of which are still extremely powerful.
I think more Land amp is needed and less food stuff a focus on token creation and swinging with your tokens seems like a better way to win quickly food tokens are way too expensive at 2 mana to activate i almost never have the mana to use then in any food token deck the trade off being 3 life is just not worth the 2 mana especially since you are usually needing food when you are about to die
I am currently working on an entirely homemade decklist featuring Hazel. I do think the deck could use some more ramp. Crop Rotation, Three Visits/Nature’s Lore. In all of my food decks, I don’t think I’ve ever actually used their activated ability. I just sac them to use another card’s ability, since the life gain isn’t enough an advantage to make it worth the while.
Does Peregrine Took go infinite with Chatter fang if you make a token? If whenever you create a token, you create an additional food token. That additional food token would create a squirrel which would create a food token and so on..
You’ll get one of each token type for Manufactor making tokens, then you’ll get one additional Food token. Took only sees the production of a quantity of tokens, rather than individual token instances, so you’ll at most get one per group of tokens made. If done repeatedly, you’ll get additional foods.
Realistically, there are several aristocrat cards you could add. Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Falkenrath Noble, and a few others that deal damage when your creatures die. It can easily be translated into a drain deck.

Put helm of the host on Hazel and you have infinitely scaling hazels each turn
Can't wait for the Upgrade Guide for the other precons. Really loved how you upgraded the deck focusing mainly on cards from the collection.
I was vibing so hard with the music ngl, cool video and nice list, gonna throw a jaheira and nantuko in my deck.
the music is an edit of TheFatRat's Monody if you want to hear the original
One of the best upgrade videos for this deck. Great cuts, exactly those I had in mind.
Great break down of the deck! I look forward to play testing this!
Carry on the awesome work. Outstanding upload, Planeswalker Project. {Can't wait|Looking forward

Been playing Ognis in MTGA, that Marionette Apprentice and Mirkwood Bats are looking super sweet for that deck.

You are correct! My math wasn’t the best. I’m a musician, I can count to four and repeat.

Do you think the deck needs more interaction and/or Land ramp? If so, what cards come to mind and what should I sub out?
Woe strider for sure imo should be taken out
Also definitely put in pitiless plunderer
U can sacrifice all your squirrel tokens w chatterfang and get them back bc your creating all those treasures
I would love an updated chatterfang list with your favorite new cards from BB, minus the Unfinity cards. 🤩
That is in the works!
All that food is making me hungry. Subbed
I have been looking for this. Oh yeah

I would definitely get all my squirrels hopped up on some good ol Nuka Cola
But all that sugar and caffeine isn’t good for them! Good idea, can I have some too?
Where did you get the background art for these videos? I absolutely love this (fan?) art.

Yes. You can draw one card off each opponent.
Make sure to get chain reactions out of every token you put on the field!
Hoping I can find this deck. I have a feeling this precon is gonna be hard to obtain. Especially for a decent price.
I think I lucked out finding mine at Target. I’ve definitely had to resist the urge to buy off some retailer marking theirs up, but it’d definitely be worth the effort to snag it up for close to MSRP.
just because i can ulamag the defiler leading the army of squirrels to battle is just funny to me.
You know when we got Eldrazi titans fighting alongside squirrels, we’re in trouble!

I’ve often considered Raking Canopy to deal with fliers in my green inclusive decks.
I’m surprised u didn’t add nuka-cola vending machine, it lets u make food tokens
I wanted to. It got cut very late in the process, but definitely is a great include.

What 1 card would you Cut to also make room for ygra, eater of all?

I don’t believe so. I think each card will only ever trigger once per token creation.
@@PlaneswalkerProject Yeah, that makes more sense, thanks!
Can somebody explain synergy peregrin took + academy manufacturing when a third source makes me a token?

hey do yo think it needs much to turn this into a drain deck with the bastion and plumb plus if i add dina too

I want to turn this into a abzan commander aristrocrats/tokens I any recommendations for a abzan commander
I would say Ghave, Guru of Spores. It’s an old school Commander, but it does a lot of sac and +1/+1 counter combo things.
@@PlaneswalkerProject thank you
