Derwent kindly gifted me some of their NEW XL Inktense Blocks to try out and I love them! In this video I talk through my unboxing and first impressions. I talk about how to use them and demonstrate using them on different surfaces using them both wet and dry. They are great for layering up colour and fun for expressive mark making. I look forward to using them again soon :)

What a thorough and diverse overview of these intense blocks! I just received these for my birthday and was feeling overwelmed . I now have some ideas to give myself a jump start! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you found it useful. What a great birthday present. Have fun with your new Inktense 😀
You are so talented! Thank you for all of the ideas and inspiration! I hope to get these for Christmas this year and then I’ll watch your video again to try some of your techniques for myself! 🥰
Thank you for your lovely feedback 😊 I am glad you liked the video. I hope that you do get your Christmas gift and enjoy getting to know the Derwent Inktense, as they are great fun to paint with. Have a good Christmas and all the best for 2024. Thanks for watching 😊
Thoroughly enjoying your videos. Thanks for testing the re-activating an inktense large wash in a palette dish. That was so kind of you to take the time.
You're welcome, thanks for watching. Have a good weekend 🙂
These seem so nice, i cant wait for them to come out in my country as well. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching 😊
I love inktense products. Think it’s fair to say I am addicted to them 😂😂 I have everything in the range apart from these. Might have to make a purchase 🤔
Thanks for watching. They are great, I love them and sketch with them a lot. These are so big, they should last a while. Enjoy your painting, especially if you do decide to treat yourself 😁😊
Thanks for this video. Enjoyed your paintings. If I want to make a large wash for a sky, to apply with a brush, usually making more than I might need (in a small dish), will I be able to re-activate later when it's dry in the dish?
Thanks for watching, that is a good question that I hadn't considered. I will have to give it a try. I would presume you can as long as your palette is non porous, but I will check and let you know.
Hi again, I tried this on my ceramic mixing palette this morning. I allowed the wash to dry completely and then added more water. It reactivated really well!
That is good to know. I guess the 'can't be re-activated' bit is only for porous materials. Thanks so much for testing it. @@CallyLawson
These remind me of the Cretacolor Aqua Briques. The concept is pretty much the same, I was really sad when it was discontinued.
Hi, thanks for watching. I have never used Cretacolor Aqua Briques, I haven't come across them here in the UK. I have just done another demo with these XL Blocks and am finding them to be really good to work with :)
Hi Cally, would you recommend the 6 palette or 12 palette xl blocks? Can you make the same colors in 12 palette by using the 6 color palette? Do people really need 12 colors or would the 6 be enough? Thank you.
Hi Kat, thanks for watching. It really is personal preference depending on budget etc. You can't really make the extra colours from the 6, however you can mix them to make lots of nice colours. Mix two or three at most to avoid the colours going muddy looking. Your choice perhaps depends on your subject, I like the larger sets for landscapes. I hope that helps.
Inktense is my favourite product, mainly use the blocks but only have the basic set.
Don't have the white and thought that would be a great addition. Almost at the end of my blocks so will buy the XL next. Agreed about calling them watercolour, I used to do that but now I label as Inktense. Great review.
Thanks for watching Douglas, I'm glad you liked it 😊 The white can be quite handy, you can use it as a transparent glaze to alter the tones and you can mix it with your other colours. Enjoy your XL Blocks when you get them! 😀
@@CallyLawson I imagined the white to be opaque. Really useful if it is transparent.
