Always makes me laugh that haggis is banned in the US. The country that brought us spray-on cheese!

it's only the importation of lamb lungs which is banned in america since they thought you could get TB from them (you can't). So any usa made haggis is legal but there is little demand for it since americans seem to joke about it being disgusting.

      Why do they ban it?

@@gorymarty56 It's because of the offal, specifically the lungs.

@@ThePsmith1985 Are you sure you're not lost ? I believe you must be lost, yes. New eyes here too though, never saw a schnitzel sandwich anywhere here, chicken or otherwise.
I lived in USA, [don't let on, I'm still hoping the scottish rizodo and gnocchi fan won't block me before I finish taking the deserved piss out of him.] where a lot of things that aren't sandwiches ... are called sandwiches ... and hardly anyone attempts to pronounce anything for the purposes of being ... understood by ought but a cheap translation app.
I definitely shed new light on Scottish food I've never seen though.
So, either we're going out back for a razor fight, or getting pished like civilised pals ... and falling out criminally over the match, for fun ?

OK....UNCLE!!! There are few Countries that I have not seen in my 70years. Scotland is the one Country I return to again and again. Thank You for disproving the "Bland Food/ Deep Fried Everything" Myth about Scotland. The only issue that I have with your video is that it's May and I won't be back in Country until September and seeking out your recommendations. Been to several of these Restaurants but now I have more to explore....thank you ( BTW The Haggis Box is a Gem ).
Wonderful Video and happy to have found your Channel.

As a Glaswegian I really enjoyed this video. Just two minor issues with the street names - Chakoo is on Saint Vincent Street and Doner Haus is on West Nile Street, this isn’t a criticism, it’s just in case anyone was looking to go to either place. Great video, I’m now a subscriber!

      Two ?
THIS ua-cam.com/video/I1IM37OY0Kg/v-deo.html is more serious than the twonk who wrecked a lassie's trip of a lifetime by creaming it over Italian food and baulking at haggis, on a holiday to Scotland. If he had the apps, screwed up then couldn't 'look' the part for her and STILL wanting to be in the Med, he's a weird eejit and she should give him one final kiss, Glaswegian.
      Ye ken ?
Yes [full disclosure, as they say in the divided states] I think she's fit and yes I'd like her to try my haggis, but that's for her to request my Fetlife link regarding [worth putting it out there, no?].
Imagine the poor feckers that had to serve him. He probably bribed them under the table to get her haggis.
I lived in USA and HAVE tried 'haggis' sold there. It costs a fiver a fecken forkfull pretty much and is OBVIOUSLY a ploy to get ye buying drinks [saltier than the Red Sea].
But, they obviously missed out on the full Glasgow experience, not one of them got arrested or even ended up assaulted. They seem to have gone hame without even a scar to fondly remind them.

If there's a word to sum up Scottish fare it would be FRESH. I live on the east coast in Fife. In a 20 minute drive I can go from fish hauled that morning to the farms for my fresh veggies, fruits, meats and game. But don't worry thees still always a mackie D somewhere close by. And never forget Scotlands love for a good curry and beers.

You should try ‘square’ sausage also known as Lorne Sausage also Scottish Morning Rolls. Kippers for breakfast is another option (you can still have poached eggs, tatty scones etc)

    • @PirateCommander
      @PirateCommander 6 місяців тому

Now then, now then, not all square sausage is Lorne, The really fun part is that almost no square sausage is square from any angle.
I suppose it makes sense to ply the yanks with WHISKY [note the spelling you prospective tourists, someone WILL spot if you come here using E's] before feeding them compressed trapezoidal scraps under the title 'square' eh ?
You nailed it on Morning Rolls, I'm well traveled, definitely need to keep them secret from the English and the Murkins can't keep their mouths shut about 'greatest foods', when their immediate next European [ish] coach tour stop is Saxonland, next thing you know the Westminster monsters will be commandeering the first morning rolls out of the bakers daily and that, would be enough to finally break the 'Union' IMO.
Keep calling the scones 'tatty' though, the Saesneg [Cymraeg, Granny entitles me to play for Scotland, and I do. So I'm a Celto-Gaelic Tart and WILL TAKE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE IN cheeky CUNNINGLINGUISM] will think they're crap so we get to keep them.
Now, why am I suddenly imagining the smell of fish ?

I was a participant in 3 events in the Scottish Highland Games in 1993 (I was 14 years old and was competing in the Junior events). I competed in the Tug-o-War (Our team won), the 300M sprint (I came in 2nd out of 34 competitors in total) and the 400M Hurdles (Which again, I came in 2nd out of 34 competitors in total). For a 14 year old, I was extremely physically strong (I volunteered to help out in my local farm since I was about 9 years old, which made me fit AF!) Lol. I was also a tomboy and spent most of my free days either cycling, climbing trees, (playing with disgusting stuff...) or just running...for the sake of it. I felt as though I was flying! LOL. (So I was very fast). Just a wee personal story of 1 of the contestants in the Event.

Come on guys. Haggis is sausage! Instead of being stuffed in intestines it is traditionally stuffed in a sheep's stomach.
The way you ate it it was just not stuffed so it ends up more like a hash.
It is common in many countries to mix meat with a starch in sausage. I love Swedish Korv which is pork and potato sausage.
Sheep's lungs are the ingredient that is illegal in the USA. Haggis sans the lungs is be perfectly legal.
Great video. The beef with mash looks like something I could eat every day.

Made me so hungry. All the food looked great and I trust you that it tasted as good as you said. But, how did you eat all that, I would be in a serious food coma. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely video. Just one correction. Neeps isn’t mashed turnips, it’s mashed swede. My (Welsh) grandmother told me that her (English) husband was a bit taken aback when she first served him swede as he considered it cattle food. I love both turnips and swede, and the latter definitely isn’t cattle food! Lol.

Really good video, I'm also Scottish, and all the food you had looked superb (apart from the Haggis, yes I'm Scottish and I don't like haggis!!) we'll be going to Chakoo (in Edinburgh) as well as Makers as that beef looked out of this world (along with the the horseradish mash)

Thats a posh restaurant in Skye. Cullan skink normally has chunks of smoked fish. Also the tikka masala is Scottish invention

That was some distance between stops. Malaig to Glen Coe is at least a two hour drive I'd say. Edinburgh to Sky is even longer.

Wow! After having seen your video, Scotland is now on my bucket list. I am ready for that haggis, I remember my mum mixing those meats with a hand meat grinding machine, and I used to enjoy it. It obviously had no name like haggis. Given all my food allergens, it looks like I will only have to leave out the foods with butter, and I will definitely devour all other foods😂

Thanks for your videos, they've been super hepful! We will be staying at Monkstadt 1745 we'd have dinner with them at least once, where else did you eat in Skye and Islay?

Orlando, sorry for the slow response, you picked a great place to stay. Other than stopping for tea and cake on the way off Skye, we didn’t eat anywhere else. One of the mistakes we made was we actually booked Monkstadt one day earlier than we meant to, which meant we had to reorder some of our trip. It cut our time in Skye a bit. We were going to stop for lunch in Portree but it was packed. Also we stopped by the spot for “Pizza in the Skye” or something like that and it was closed for some renovations. In Islay, I believe everywhere we ate we showed on camera. Our hotel in Bowmore and Ardnahoe distillery.

I was happy that you enjoyed all the food you tried but I think you should have come a little further north and tried the other food Scotland is famous for, namely the Arbroath Smokie or some potted hough
You should also check out Scottish stovies and Clootie Dumpling (which can be served as a sweet dish or a savoury)

I really enjoyed your video and hope you will continue to make more. I do however find it frustrating to watch Americans use of silverware. The need to move the fork from one hand to the other is something a child does before they master the correct technique.
