Great video, I’ll have to get an Airstep now. I Bought the WAZA Air Headphones about 9 months ago and it is THE best purchase I’ve made in regards to playing guitar. It’s a game changer for sure, I use them almost every night. Best guitar practice/playing tool out there!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS, I HAVE SOME NEW WZA AIR AND I WAS LOOKING FOR A WAY TO CHANGE VARIOUS EFFECTS AND EXPAND THE LINE OF THEM AND I THINK THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I WILL CONTINUE USING YOUR VIDEOS FOR MORE. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
I adore my headphones too. especially since having kids. means i can actually play. Will check out this bad boy out. QQ: Have you ever done a video on how to do the firmware updates? I dont see anything anywhere on youtube on it... just a thought.
I switch between bass and guitar and thinking of a set of these but not sure which version to get. Essentially though with the air step it becomes a great little travel pedalboard for when I’m away for work
I’d say go for the big boi Airstep if you’ve any interest What so ever in expression pedals for volume and wah and manipulating stomp parameters, both for WAZA katana or helix this is pretty essential stuff. If you’re ever using an old school amp with TRS aux switch to change amp channels again the big Airstep does that ( stomp doesn’t ) yeah it is more cash outlay upfront, but taking a long term view the full Airstep is always gonna be the way to go.
Hey lee, love the video..thinking of getting one of these for sure. Is the main advantage of airstep over app is it is hands free switching? Presume you can switch patches on the app same as footswitch? Thanks for the help
The Bass Waza Air? I would imagine the factory reset on both units would be the same, have a look for that and let me know if you need any more help :)
@PBOD My Apologies. I was referring to the Airstep BW edition. Unless I'm missing something no guide tells you how to initiate the modes. Nor troubleshooting things. And there isn't a factory reset on the airstep as far as I know
Nah the switching is gapless and instantaneous, the app takes longer to catch up the display in that particular screen, but if you’re at the bank screen this is a faster refresh. In ears though, boom, instant swap.
@@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist I expected as much, just thought I would clarify. I'm gonna be looking at how to utilise the regular air step for the HX stomp soon. Any suggestions?
@@BudgetPedalChap the stomp can be fairly adequately driven with even a 4 switch midi controller, so a 5 will work out fine, it’s a matter of your own workflow. What will be truly excellent in the very near future is the updated app for the Airstep should allow all of us to save and share individual presets publicly so we can fire ideas back and forth. If you have your stomp on the same midi channel as mine ( number 4 ) then you’d be able to take samples I’d do and run them yourself. It’d be an idea to try and get a bit of a standard going across the facebook groups to cut down on folks having to edit up channel numbers - not that this is a big deal, it’d just save a lot of time,
@@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist I might have to hit you up closer to the time to get some expert understanding on setting it up, I haven't really explored the stomp all that greatly and I have never dabbled with midi
The airstep is a midi controller pretty much, so it doesn't have effects built in nor does the signal actually go through the unit. If a loop switcher you own has midi, it could be programmed to switch loops potentially.
Really thinking of getting this as I'm always on the road for work, tossing up between this, Nux mighty v2 and the fender mustang micro. Thoughts anyone ?
Hey @Coastal Sasquatch. This is by far one of the very best purchases I (Lee) have ever made. By looks of the competition they look like toys in comparison, I say this due to the extremely high build quality of the WA’s. I honestly think you’ll be extremely happy with them :)
If I remember correctly, any expression pedal will plug into the airstep and work. You can likely find something second hand on reverb or market place going for under $50
Great tip. Do you get any connectivity issues with the WAZA AIR? Mine drops connection every few minutes and I have to reconnect them to get it to work again.
Check that the wireless part plugged into the guitar is moving. If it thinks you’ve put the guitar down it’ll turn off to save battery :) You can adjust that in the settings but it’s good to love while you play too, helps with flow and timing ;)
I had the problem of connectivity dropping out. I solved it by changing the standby setting from mostion sensing to sound setting. the problem is if you are sat down playing you dont move enough and it auto switches off after 5min. you could also try extending the time off from 5min to 15min or 30min
Not as standard, this is the only real downside to these that I have found after using for 8 months. You will find some instructions online for modifying the wiring for a line out but not something I've done or would risk given the price
Do you know if you can connect the Airstep and maintain the functionality to play along to a backing track? I can't seem to get to this to work, so whilst the Airstep is useful if you're playing on your own, if you want to play along to a backing track, you can't hear it in the WAZA Air headphones. This kind of renders the whole setup useless to me. Perhaps I'm missing something in the setup, but I can't find anything about this online.
Absolutely you can, I’ve done this a lot. I don’t know what’s happening with your set up … we can trouble shoot it though. Firstly which phone do you have?
@@PBOD thanks for getting back to me. After some trial and error and the store where I bought it helping out we managed to figure it out. Instructions are pretty poor, but we got there. Thanks again.
Has anyone got any good app settings/patches or useful links to achieve decent DISTORTION on the Waza-air? It appears good for clean sounds out the box, but right now I am considering returning it, because so far, I have struggled to get decent distorted sounds - anywhere close to my mesa or marshall valve amps (eg. metallica, megadeth GnR, offspring, good riddance), Im using active EMG81 pickup in bridge position - the app volume needs to be set around 20% but the active pickups dont appear to be a problem (no thumps or hums/noises etc) however gain tones sound buzzy/fizzy or honky. On lower gain it sounds weak with no sustain and on 100% gain - it seems a bit thin and not heavy. At the moment I feel the FENDER MUSTANG MICRO sounded better! Engaging boost/overdrive/distortion FX.. on lead/brown amp causes massive volume overload...not sure why. Can decent distortion be found with a bit of fiddling around in the app? I read somewhere about people starting with clean amp and adding distortion from there... so will try that... did anyone have success plugging the guitar transmitter into a pedal board out?
Hi, Would you recommend the airstep lite or the non lite version? All I can play is the Waza air due to noise restrictions. Also, really keen to know what effects you used on the Waza air for your Metallica phase you went through. I noted the #s you had it on just wanted to know which effects. Thanks!
Either! They're both as good as each other! Chorus is always good for a clean for metallica sounds and blend in a small amount of phaser, gets you really close !

? Did you have any problem with plugging it into your strat. Did it fit ok?
Yeah, it works fine. The trem arm won’t go past it but that’s not a problem normally
Can you just use a small patch lead and Velcro the receiver to strap? Then the trem is free to move fully?
