@@LoveMTB I like it a lot. Easy setup, work well, no issues. I live in Maryland and ride up and down, roots trails, gear range has been fine, never felt lacking and never missed a shift. I have the low end box 3
MTB love, Thanks for this video. I just ordered a bike and to save money I got a base model. It had a mostly NX drivetrain except for the crank set which were these. I was disappointed that it was not at the very least NX. I feel much better now. Really appreciate your content.
Very informative, thank you. Here’s what I’d like to do and please correct me if I’m wrong. I was in need of a new pair of cranks,( current setup 1x11 drivetrain, SRAM 11 speed cassette 11-42, GX 11 speed derailleur, GX 11 speed shifter, NX cranks, 28T SRAM chainring, GXP press fit BB), then watching your videos and having some issues lately, I decided to upgrade the whole drivetrain and this is what I’ve come up with and please bear with me. I watched your review on SunRace 11-46T cassette which I think is great, so, I’ll keep the 11 speed GX derailleur, KMC 11 speed chain and changing current GXP pressfit BB with a DUB pressfit, SRAM Stylo cranks you’ve reviewed and made me mind, yet I’d like switching the 12 speed chainring they come with, with a 11 speed 6 mm offset one, either SRAM, Absolute black or a V2 chainring SRAM direct mount compatible. I haven’t decided on which wheels set I should go for but I’m going to be watching some of your content and we’ll see. Is this bonkers or it could actually work ? Kind regards, Florin Sirbu
Thanks for the intel. I have Stylo cranks on my new XC bike and was looking for more information on them. Probably will swap them out for Descendants when I get the chance. The prices are so much cheaper than SRAM or Raceface. I appreciate it.
Again thanks for this video..and all the others. To update you on what crankset I chose,I picked up a complete SRAM NX/GX groupset (NX crank and cassette) GX for chain, shifter and rear derailleur. SO thanks for helping me take the plunge and go 1x12 on a 1994 Cannondale Super V 2000..The drivetrain is so much overkill for the bike, but I kind of just wanted to have a little fun. I am considering adding a similar setup to my 2004 Cannondale Jekyll and using the Advent 1x9 on it for another old Cannondale I have..
The shape of these cranks are def identical to SRAM. It’s just made from different materials and the fit and finish are simpler and less fancy than say GX and up. I must say the GX cranks are one of the best looking on the market. The lunar blue and the laser etched eagle. Damn.
Thanks for the video. You just helped me with a choice of which crank to consider for a retro bike build I am in the process of doing. Until this video I hadn't considered looking at Truvativ cranks.
First of: like your videos. Great content. Very informativ. And: Never used those cranks but had the same thoughts abut SRAM stylo and descendant Parts.
I have the Stylo carbon crank....I guess its branded as XC, but I believe they're literally the same crankset as the Descendant just with different graphics. I prefer the more subtle Stylo graphics personally and it feels more on-par as XT branding...simple and clean. Coincidentally, I'm running the same AB oval 32t but went the other direction to the 6mm offset for my 142 rear. As far as performance? I use to race singlespeed on the old Truvativ NOIR and owned XX1. With the DUB BB I do find these a decent bit stiffer and actually smoother than the past generations of carbon cranks that I have owned. This crankset is actually the first carbon crankset that I've had on my bike in probably 7 or 8 yrs. They kind of priced me out of the market until I got the Stylo on heavy discount.
For some relative perspective on the 70 gram weight difference between this steel chainring and an aluminum SRAM GX chainring, consider that a $0.05 US Nickel coin weighs 5 grams, so a stack of 14 US Nickel coins would weigh 70 grams.
Hi. Today, unfortunately, I damaged the thread in my crank (Shimano SLX). I'm looking for another crank quickly. In one store I found this crank (as well as the Sram NX version) at a low price (approximately US $75). Will the 49mm chainline version fit my Octane One Prone bike with an 11s cassette well? Which bottom bracket is better to choose - the one from SRAM, or maybe pay a few more dollars for the TOKEN bottom bracket?
2 of my bikes have GX cranks 1 bike replaced with GX and treaded dub to upgrade NX powerspline other bike installed GX crank from NX crank since I wanted shorter cranks. 3rd newest bike came with sram X1 eagle cranks
Nice vid. Have them too. Haven’t seen the need to replace them; but as you suggest in the vid I swapped out to the Sram alloy chainring when it was time to replace.
Recently bought a bike that came with the carbon stylo crank but looking on their website 34T is the max chainring size however for the 6K version they lost 38T? I want to put a 38T on my carbon one - do you think this will be compatible? Cheers
So I've been looking for a crank for the new bike because I prefer 170s over 175s. A new XX1 dub SL crank is $800 CAD! 🤯😭 Looks like I should consider the Stylo.
Ok I’m trying to buy sram crankset and I will be using my own oval chainring. So only difference in boost and non boost is the chainring it comes with. Spindle is same size?
As always a great video. You are always on the cutting edge of the know when it comes to Mtb parts. Iam sure these cranks would be fine, but I’m leery of SRAM drive trains esp shifters and derailleur.
@@LoveMTB Yes true on the weight. Im still waiting for a few parts to come in. I have the drivetrain, but waiting on wheels, seat clamp, and handlebars. Take care
@@kevinborovsky3558 I was firmly in the Shimano camp, until I tried SRAM for a while. Not being able to shift with the index finger took some getting used to but now I always have that finger on the brake anyways. I actually prefer the lever positions on SRAM drivetrains now, though Shimano may be better for smaller hands. Shifting performance is great on both. When it comes to maintenance I just love the SRAM Cage lock. It makes changing wheels so much easier.
Hi I just recently bought crankset for Scott big jon 2016. Any idea if there is a good SRAM crankset compatible with 197 casset or 100mm BB with appropriate spacers? the total length is 121 centimeters for the crankset.
@@LoveMTB ok, My bike: Scott big jon 2016. I just recently blew out my gx crank in less than a year. I thought it was my bottom bracket at first however that wasn't the case. I'm pretty sure the movement in the crank broke my XD driver and siezed my xx1 cassette to the driver. Huge loss. I talked to my local bike shop and they told me the most bomb proof setup would be a chromoly Phil Wood square taper with a white industries crank and after almost 500 miles of horrible abuse I have to agree. I wish SRAM would make cranks like they did 10 years ago.😥
@@LoveMTB I don't believe that they would have due to the mileage. But I didn't try. However I'm glad to spend the money... Even though Phil Wood is really expensive the bearing replacements are not and the White Industries cranks look great. Not all bad news.
Curious question, do they move the pedal whole up and down in the same length arm or do they actually make the crank arms shorter? I have Deore 170mm cranks but find I'm getting a lot of pedal strikes on my bike and was debating going to 165mm cranks. Probably stick with Shimano though as I'm comfortable with their stuff.
Did you guys know that STYLO is a cheaper option, to bring more riders to the mountain, but when you reverse the label, you can read girls? That's not the best decision from sram, they should have been more neutral but...
I have Stylo 7K which came with my bike. And I can not imagine any situation when I would think to change cranks. I literally don't understand what can be wrong with it. Only if it's not strong enough. But I guess if you buy crankset for 100+ euro it's already durable enough. And what I would not do for sure - is a change to a carbon crankset!
for some reason it always bothered me that sram branded their 12sp drivetrain as eagle, instead of just calling it 12sp like everyone one else.. super pretentious... it would be like a car company branding their 6 spd tranmission line as SOMETHING...
My bike came with Truvativ Stylo crank. It works just fine, no problems.
Used a a Descendant 170 mm crankset and Box 9 drivetrain to upgrade an ancient Santa Cruz Heckler drivetrain. Couldn't be happier. Solid as a rock
