    DIM [ LYRIC EXPLANATION ]
    Dim is meant to describe the moment when you are on the verge of death, when you are standing on the edge staring into the abyss. (FOOL’S MATE 8/2009)
    1. 「剥離」[hakuri - separation] the title means leaving your body, separating mind and body. (Neo genesis vol. 37)
    2. THE INVISIBLE WALL about a person who committed a crime and has to live with that forever. the invisible wall means the prison walls that will always be around him, even after he got out, keeping him from returning to how things were before. (Neo genesis vol. 37)
    3. A MOTH UNDER THE SKIN about plastic surgery. even if you look like a butterfly on the outside, you will always feel like a moth inside no matter what. and it’s not meant to be judgmental (FOOL’S MATE, 8/2009)
    4. LEECH about something that happened to Ruki (and the rest of the band) that made him furious. Vermin, Headache Man and the True Murderous intent are about the same thing. And it’s not about their record label. (FOOL’S MATE 10/2008, ARENA37℃ 1/2011)
    5. 泣ヶ原 [Nakigahara] nakigahara is the name of a place where people waited for their loved ones to come back from war. The name means “the field of crying”. Basically it’s a place where people feel very lonely and that’s why Ruki used it. The song itself is about the loneliness of those who spend their lives on the internet.(Hence why you hear the tapping of the keyboard in the end) (Neo genesis vol. 37)
    6. 「エリカ」[erika - erica] the title comes from the erica flower. it symbolises loneliness but also charity and love for humanity.
    7. HEADACHE MAN read in LEECH.
    8.紅蓮 [Guren - crimison lotus] about a pregnant girl who ends up giving birth to a still born baby. Flip side of Burial Applicant (in BA the baby loses the mother, in Guren the mother loses the baby) (FOOL’S MATE 3/2008)
    9. 「子宮」[shikyuu - womb] the track is baby’s cried played backwards (Neo genesis vol. 37)
    10. 13STAIRS[-]1 [thirteen stairs minus one] traditionally there are 13 steps to the gallows but when we add the minus one the song title becomes “one step before reaching the gallows(=dying)”. It’s about how rock music and especially visual kei were supposed to be the kind of music where you can do whatever you want yet the people in charge are trying to tell artists what to do and some artists are going with it and failing anyway and the genres are dying. (Neo genesis vol. 37)
    11. DISTRESS AND COMA the pov changes between a woman who’s in a coma and a man who’s sitting by her side, waiting for her to wake up. It’s just that the man gave her a trauma (cheating? abuse? we just don’t know) that keeps her trapped inside her own head. Distress in the title is a reference to the man and Coma is a reference to the woman. (Neo genesis vol. 32)
    12. 「感触」[kanshoku - sense of touch] a prelude for Shiroki Yuuutsu (Neo genesis vol. 37)
    13. 白き優鬱 [Shiroki Yuuutsu - White melancholy] Yuuutsu is supposed to be written as 憂鬱 but Ruki wrote it as 優鬱. 優 means gentle, so the title means “white, gentle melancholy”. A true story about a family of Ruki’s friend. After the grandmother got diagnosed with cancer the family started acting really nice around her and that made her feeling melancholic even though everyone was being really gentle towards her. So basically the song is about how people can make you sad even though they only try to be nice. (Neo genesis vol. 37)
    14. IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS about Ruki himself. the title kind of says it all. (FOOL’S MATE 8/2009)
    15. 「朦朧」[mourou - hazy] “kind of a prelude for Ogre. it shows in the form of music what it is like inside the hazy mind of a man who’s tripping. Or maybe i should say that it shows what it is like inside Ruki’s head" (Neo genesis vol. 38)
    16. OGRE the ogre in the title is "a demon in god’s clothing”. Basically the song is about how there is no god anywhere and even if there is he doesn’t think that there’s anything worth saving (hence the demon in god’s clothing). So the only thing you should believe in is yourself. (Neo genesis vol. 37)
    17. DIM SCENE ruki wanted to write the darkest song he can manage so what he did was put all the songs on the album into one (Neo genesis vol. 37)

    I've been a The GazettE fan for almost 10 years, and DIM is my favourite record from them (I went for the original tour plus the nostalgia tour as well). At that point in my life, I had fallen out of love with Visual kei and it wasn't until I heard Guren that it reminded me what I was missing. This album has and will always mean so much to me, and to have someone else listen to it with fresh ears brings me back to why I did.
    Shiroki yuuutsu remains my favourite track from them of all time, and even though I love the fun ones and the dark ones, when I hear that track live, it always, always, always brings me tears.
    At this point in time, I've gone to so many of their shows that I've actually much pretty lost count by now. Sometimes I forget why I love them, but having you sit through DIM, and listening to it with you reminded me again of why it touched me so much from the first minute I heard it.
    Thank you for that, subscribed! I can't wait to hear what you say about Ninth :)

    Nakigahara is such a gorgeous track, and I put it up there with some of DEG’s greatest ballads, and I’m really not a fan of Gazette’s ballads. After this album the ballads got a little too formulaic, but Nakigahara is phenomenal. Even the translation of the title, “The Crying Fields”, is fantastic.
    And I believe the instrument you’re hearing in the break is a koto.
    Also, not sure if it was intentional or not, but the ending with the band fading out while the vocals stay high in the mix then suddenly cutting out may have been an homage to the studio version of DEG’s “Zakuro”.

    I really really love DIM. I got the album a few years ago and listened to it completely for the first time in before falling asleep... Well. I can fall asleep while listening to Deathcore, Death Metal and stuff like that... But Shikyuu just scared the crap out of me XD
    I was listening to Guren... it was so beautiful and then the crying baby came.
    A year ago I was able to get the DIM Limited Edition. And it is as beautiful as the music! I don't know how to describe it... Just search it up!

    This is their album that made me hooked up with this band so much, disregarding their looks because others are just a fan of them due to their style as visual kei artists. However, when I read the translated lyrics it hit me so much changing the ways how I perceive the world. This group has inspired me with their views and content (as opposed to what usual English speaking bands are just common and simple). It's nice to see someone review their songs and appreciate the GazettE together with other fans because of their talent and not only the looks btw.

    Still my favorite Gazette album. I listen to it every winter.
    It's soaked in ominous atmosphere, and sounds a lot more grim/theatrical than everything they did before it. One of the underrated aspects of Dim (to me) was the distinct unsettling/operatic use of background sounds and instruments throughout. Transition tracks like [Erika] and [Shikyuu] aren't even really songs- but I still enjoy listening to them, for the haunted atmosphere. 🤘

    This album is probably my favorite from The Gazette, and it really shows what happens when they take a more serious approach to music. There are certain aspects of this album that remind me of Dir En Grey's Uroboros (which came out a year earlier), especially the opening instrumental that is very similar to Sabir. The Gazette is a band that continues to amaze me, and I'm happy to call myself a fan. Gazerock is not dead!!

    I can't say how thankful I am, and I'm so glad you enjoyed this album. I'll always be thankful for how honest you are with reacting and analyzing, so thank you. I love all of Gazette's albums for different reasons but the main reason DIM, with all that it does well and even what it lacks, holds such a special place for me is because it's the first piece of music I let back in after my suicide attempt 3 years ago. It was given to me as a birthday gift, and even though this entire comment is a little TMI this album, as well as the rest of them, really pulled me by the hand out of a darker place. I go back to this Era of theirs often when things from the past start to overflow to remind me of something important. Anyway, I just wanted to explain myself a bit and thank you again for taking your time to react to it, and I hope you enjoy more of them in the future.

Music is a powerful thing. If I didnt have so much to get to I'd do videos for everything The Gazette have done. They are that good. Thank you for being here.

    Gazette's ballads are really great Baldman. I agree with you, if the ballads are in English, they will become popular songs in the west.. probably

    • @karine291
      @karine291 6 років тому +1

      If Gazette sang in English, they would be more popular in the West. But English, as Ruki said himself, allows him to express feelings hard to express in Japanese and to escape Japanese censors. But I doubt they intend to turn OOR in the future.

    soo much old emotions and memories . real thanks for this you absolutely got a new follower.
    as much as I've seen people listening to them for the first time or reacting to them on UA-cam you are the one who understood their music the most and you got the key to understand them better cuz I guess truly listening to TheGazettE means all the tiny details from the way Ruki-sama pronounced every syllable in the first word to the last word's meaning to the two seconds of guitar where they close it. so truly thank you for taking a look on this and I hope you enjoyed .

    • @Baldmann

      I really enjoy them. I need to make a Gazette playlist, as I have done a few now. They are one of the bands I have been introduced to on the channel that I keep going back to. Thank you for the kind words, and the sub. There is so much more from them I need to get to.

    • @karine291
      @karine291 6 років тому +1

      Wow, Gazette myblood, wish I could like your comment several times! I also appreciated that Baldman, contrary to several other "reactors", didn't judge them on their looks ("Are these girls??" kinda reaction we hear too often .... ) or comment their make up and hair and what not. It's all about the music, and it's always an honest opinion.

    • @Baldmann
      @Baldmann  6 років тому +1

      I don't want to talk bad about my fellow reactors. But most don't have the music, and more specifically the metal background I do. They focus more on the video, and try to be entertaining. I do more of a review, and to me the music is the most important aspect. I hope I am entertaining. But giving you an honest opinion is more important. I wish I could like his comment more than I can as well. Too many people get lost in looks, and forget just how powerful the music is. I'm still so annoyed that my Deracine vids are blocked in japan. I may see if I still have them. I'm so thankful that all of you enjoy the way I do things, and I can represent the bands in the right way.

    • @karine291
      @karine291 6 років тому +2

      What these reactors also forget is that those bands work so hard on their art. They put all of their hearts and souls in their music. We should not cheapen that with easy jokes on their looks. Seriously, Baldman, you think bands would contact you to get a review from you if your judgment wasn't fair and well informed?
      I'm also very sad that we might never see your reaction to Déraciné (is a French word that means "uprooted" btw). It's such a beautiful and powerful song.

    • @Baldmann
      @Baldmann  6 років тому +1

      I know bands wouldn't contact me If wad I was doing was not something they were happy with. It's something I truly appreciate. Would be great if you also did a full album reaction for NIL and Stacked Rubbish, along with DIM I think they are the 3 best albums these guys have ever put out. Deracine was blocked before, so I am not sure what will happen. At this point I know I will get to the full Gazette catalog. It's just a matter of balancing all the other requests, and and not over saturating with Gazette.

    This album is one of the fans favorit. Before Dogma released everyone wanted them to turn back into DIM style but oh well... this is the GazettE and as a respond Ruki said that if they just did everything the fans want the band wouldnt go this far xDD
    Many of the songs in the album were from their previous single, like Leech, Guren, Distress and Coma. They also like to linked their song to the other song from the previous album like Burial Aplicant - Guren, Bathroom - Dripping insanity and many more to the point that i thing maybe The Suicide Circus - Derangement - Inside Beast were linked but oh well xDD It just my mind being wild.
    Please do Reila, Wasteland, Tokyo Shinjuu, and Saraba. I would like to know what do you think about the Song xDD Live version will be better esp for Saraba

      Thank you. The Gazette are one of my top 3 favorite bands, I've been shown on the channel. If I didnt have so much to get to, I would easily to a full day of nothing but Gazette. I've already listened to the album again.

    • @karine291
      @karine291 6 років тому +1

      How does it feel after you listened to it again? You said something and I wanted to know your final opinion: was it badly produced or the stuff was made on purpose?

    • @Baldmann
      @Baldmann  6 років тому

      I never thought it was bad production, but in certain spots certain elements were lower in the mix. I do think those were deliberate. I think they were doing certain things to add different elements.

    You need to listen to their albums on flac or at least true 320kbos quality their production quality is very good but the uploads on UA-cam are pretty crappy and distort the music

    The LaLala part here in Japan Ls are hard to pronounce so we end up using R in place of Ls so lalalalalale become rararare

    • @Baldmann

      I really enjoy that to be honest. It is a different sound than I am used to, and I feel it adds character to it. I like his accented english as well.

      The album Dogma that most are suggesting, is the last album of them. I suggest we let him finally. So you will be able to notice the band's musical evolution, and how your sound was becoming heavier.
