Happy you like the nightshift, Dan. I own a 23 Icon and totally agree with everything you said. Im 50+ but this is my first bike so def. aimed at beginners.. but not just young hipsters. The indicators and mirrors are standard (as your tester) on the nightshift. A few other bits also like the flat bar make it quite a bit more expensive than the Icon and Full Throttle. I have a few custom pieces on mine alreday - a quickshifter and the bar from the full throttle. A few other bits to be replaced this year if all goes as plannned. Can’t wait to get back on the road. Great vid. Ride safe. 😊
Really enjoyed this. Definitely on my radar as a first bike. Will be looking forward to test driving it alongside the Yamaha XSR700 and CB650R. Thanks so much for the video!
So weird watching this video to check out this bike and slowly coming to the realisation that I recognise the roads and it’s like hang on I live around there!
It’s a beautiful bike. I’ve ridden it. The ergonomics are not good for me as I prefer and more upright position. But many people will enjoy this bet over ergonomics.
First time on your channel. You have the most understable english accent that I've heard (english is not my first language) and your review of this bike made me reconsider my options. I wanted something light and nice handling for the city and was thinking about the trident 660 or a duke 790, but i often visit my grandparents on a small town with rock roads and I figured that those bikes wont like those roads, so I started looking into the scramblers and your review had me more inclined into the nighshift as it looks like it would work on the city and it's just good enough for rough roads. Now I just need to know if it has enough power for the highway. Thank you very much!
I own this bike traded in a bmw r1250r I am 75 and I really appreciate the performance and the light weight when and if you get to 75 you will know what im talking about Good review thankx
Yep, I test rode the icon and monster and picked scrambler. Small, compact, handles great, power not licence threatenin, light, smooth. Only negative are price and mudguards. Goes well on green lanes and shit roads. May upgrade suspension.
great review Dan, I test rode one yesterday after passing my DAS and am still smiling. Have a few other bikes to ride but its high on the list of contenders
I do like the look of the Ducati scrambler, but because Ducati have released the new Hypermotard 698 into their arsenal I'm really tempted by that machine now. Great review again Dan 👍😊
What a fabulous colour that bike is! All of my other opinions about it are moderated by it's preposterous price and Ducati servicing lurking in the hazy £££££ distance. Still, as you say, fun - for hobbyists with deep wallets. Safe riding.
I'd love to buy a Icon or a Full Throttle but the prices are crazy. There are so many options out there now, that also don't carry those maintenance costs either. That new 400 triumph, even thou it's a "budget bike" will steal alot of sales from the Icon as it's half the price (two for one!). I think Ducati has priced themselves out of the market for this new scrambler. My local dealer has barely sold any. Would love to see their sales figures for it since it's been out.
The 400 seems like a great entry bike, even. Good mid bike. It sure why most people would bust out double the price for a slightly better bike. May as well go all out and just get the sled or 1200xe
The pricing is high, and only people who really WANT a Ducati at a lower price will buy one, I think. Although as I said, I wouldn't compare it to the 400's personally.
LOL! Yeah maybe saying "Im down with the kids" is not the most appropriate thing to say in order to convey your belief in your ability to be currently hip. Like the chic look of the bike. Fun review! Haven't been here in a while and have forgotten how good your reviews are. Cheers!
Obviously it's a Ducati so it's not going to be cheap but for me if I wanted a bike in that style I would buy the CF moto 700cl-x with 70bhp and 5 years warranty at a fraction of the price. I have to admit the Nightshift looks good though, especially with the black spoke wheels and being Italian rather than Chinese it's worth some of that premium price. Thanks for the review, made me realise that an ex-demonstrator isn't always a good bargain as it's probably been ridden by loads of UA-camrs taking it down green lanes etc.
Hahah! As much as I'd like to say yes, sadly it was because I'm much slower than ex-BSB racer Fagan and 3 time WEC racer Greg Black. Maybe I'll stick with them next time (I won't). :D
That is one sexy bike. Wish i could afford one. Im just about to start uni so looks like my first bike will be a more reasonably priced KTM 390 or CB300r. Anyone have any suggestions for an affordable first bike?
@@Englishbikerdan I watched your video on both them actually. Great videos, really informative. I absolutely love the design of them but as they're new this year there aren't any cheaper used ones available. My budget for the bike is max £4000 as the DAS course is another grand and I still haven't bought gear yet or paid for insurance 😅.
I mean, that's not an apples to apples comparison to me as the Scrambler makes quite a bit more power. The Ducati's build quality and equipment is also higher. Having said that, I can't deny the excellent value of the Speed 400. I just wouldn't compare it to the Scrambler, personally.
@@Englishbikerdan My comment wasn't meant to be an apples to apples comparison per se. I think that Triumph has created such a "disruptive bike" it'll will have the entire industry rethinking their strategies esp. if it can even steal sales from Ducati for more expensive "retro scrambler". In fact Triumph could even be getting pressure from inside the industry to raise the price because of it. Be interesting to see how the next 12 months goes.
It also depends on how the spokes connect to the rim. A simple way (which some aftermarket solutions offer) is to have a rubber like gasket line the inside of the time where the spokes come through. The more desirable way is to have the spokes connect at the outside edge of the rim (look at the wire wheels on a BMW Gs). This way the spokes are away from the tube.
Nice looking bike. Would have been looking even better if they did the same glossy finish on the sides of the tank, instead of that piece of matt plastic
Watching for a second or third time & just noticed you introduced the bike as "this is Scrambler's, Ducati Nightshift.". No doubt intentional, to check if we were paying attention. 🤭
I owned a Ducati Scramble and didn't like the cornering at all, or the handling in general. After a tyre change, it improved but still doesn't really excell in any arears other than coolness.
@@Englishbikerdan fair enough. I just never found it confidence inspiring like many of my other bikes: Triumphs, Aprillia, etc. But it is fun to blast around on like most bikes 😎
Why do people with large cars insist on driving down the narrowest lanes they can find? Muppets 😂 Scrambler looks nice, a shame they haven’t applied the same updates to the 1100, wonder if it’s being dropped?
Can somebody explain to me torque and nm. I have pretty good vision of horse power but nothing with nm. I am 115kg man is it enough 65nm to provide joy and fun pull like sporty bikes who are 100+nm
It is awesome bike. After a fantastic test ride I have bought a new one for me. I've used it for 1 day, rode about 30km and end up with break fluid leak and not functional rear break. All friends now laugh as hell, because they told me the bike will spend more time in service than with me. What is your experience with Ducati?
I had a 2007 Monster 695, 10k trouble free miles. Currently have a 2011 Hypermotard 1100, again about 10k trouble free miles except my oil cooler cracked at the fitting around 7k miles. Not sure if it was a rock that caused it or just a defect. Just make sure you keep up with oil changes, belt replacements and valve checks. Those 2 valve air cooled motors are bulletproof.
Sadly, I can't really comment on reliability for any press bike as I don't have them long enough. Best bet is to look at owner reviews, MCN etc. Thanks!
Yesterday, I made my initial visit to the nearby dealership, which is located just 20 minutes away. Upon arrival, I encountered a motorcycle that captivated me immediately. I felt a profound connection to it. Consequently, I chose to recline on the bike until a salesperson approached me, inquiring about my interest. I said yes, please

Looks stupid why not just have it routed under the engine like the old-school monsters and sport classic.
