True. We've actually been moving to more local open pollinated maize varieties this year that can cope with less fertiliser and water. Instead of using inorganic fertilisers, we've moved to building the soil with compost, manure and biochar so we'll see how our maize does this year.
@dawienatral7083, you have a very good ear. Though I was born in Zambia, I grew up in Canada where my mother is from. I returned to Zambia more than 10 years ago as I'm not a fan of the Canadian winters😅.

How do you handle the lack of rain in the long dry season?
We build up mulch as much as possible which does help a lot. But even we were caught by surprise with the early dry season...
