Excellent video, congratulations. Could you make a longer video with examples of each type of amplifiers and impulses? and the way you combine and adjust the equalization? Regards
@@mlsoundlab nah, just do this type of editing in shots where you stare blank at the camera and repeat "you want to buy ML sound lab products" multiple times over and over lmao
I've been wanting someone to make a video or blog explaining what situations/reasons there are for selecting different kinds of mics, cabs, amps, etc. Maybe it's just me, but I've always been more into the creative side of music but when it comes to gear and stuff, I've never really had hands on experience with most of it so I don't really know what kind of mics to select, for example, or what one does better than another or vice versa. I can of course hear what I like better, but I'm predominantly a guitars so what I wanna hear while jamming at my computer doesn't necessarily equate to a good live tone or one that will fit into a mix, you know? Either way, thanks for the video! Gives me a little bit to explore tonight!
Hello Mikko! I would like to tell you first of all that I often follow your content and I really love it! Besides, the content of this video alerted me to something that I have been killing myself for a long time ... I hope you can help me. I have an EVH Stealth head and a traditional Mesa 4x12 cabinet ... but I often wonder if I should change my cabinet to a Standard OS? I like the sound punchier and well balanced, but not specially too bright. I dont like the sound when too boomier and muddy. It’s very difficult because unfortunately it’s impossible to try both in a store ... I mostly play metalcore rhythm and lead and need some advice please! I find a thousand and one opinions on forums, but now you seem to really know what you're talking about and my decision would be based on your knowledge and skills! I hope you can help me...i would be very grateful..Many thanks!
@@mlsoundlab Sadly I don't, but I definitely will get one in the next few months. Only have the next best thing which is the Helix model, which I use with your trick of turning down the master to 1. Also on a side note, I feel like the channel volume flattens the tone on the Helix, so I leave that at default and use the output boost and a gain block at the end of the path to bring up the volume.
Hey Mikko! I have a question for you, I bought your 4x12 mesa ir's and if I'm not mistaken those IR are close mic, how do I simulate a far away mic from the cab (more than 1 meter from the amp) +a close mic (like someone would do on studio) with your ir's? How do I compensate for phase issues or stuff like that? Can you do a video about it? I want to replicate some tones (Let's say, Metallica) but considering they used some close mics with far away mics and then when mixed, some of the phase got canceled and thats why you can replicate those tones with real mics (the theocracy dude have a video replicating Metallica tones with real hardware) but hard to do with ir's. Can you do a video about it please? :)
That's quite a lot you're asking for but generally if you want to make something sound like it's further away you would roll off the highs with an eq or a low pass filter and then to emphasise it even more you can add a room reverb.
Francisco Berríos Just buy the Mikko cab simulator and you have full control over the distance and the types of mics. I use that all the time and it's the best cab simulator out there in my humble opinion.
When people say they used far mics on a recording those are usually NOT the main mics. They're blended in for some subtle roomy vibes. If I was to simulate that I'd first of all add a room reverb with the mix on 100% and shorten the time to like 1sec. The add a drastic EQ curve that looks like the McDonalds logo or preferably boobs with a steep cut in the middle around 1khz. Serious post...

Great content. Please don’t ever do another video where you’re slowly zooming in and out the whole time lol.

Super smart guy
engl cab pack?
What amp did you use to make the Mars Silver video? That sounds awesome. Great video by the way.
Nameless is pretty bright or?
What's your favourite cabs with this amp?
First clip sounds amazing. Any chance to know what amp and IR was it?
I think Kurt Cobain also used something like that, got I bit of a Nirvana vibe from it
So many questions...To start: What gear were you using?
Would you say that the PRS Archon goes well with the Orange cab? What about the Friedman with an Orange? Relatively proggish djentish sort of tone
Dude I want to try an Archon. Do you own one?? I'd pay proper money to try it out. :O
