Congrats! I beat the all stars version when I first got my snes, but I recently got a disk of smb2 for my Famicom so now I can play the original. Man is it hard lol. I can make it to 8-3, but the last part tripped me up. I’ll be sure to update my comment once I do complete it tho!
When I was playing this game, When I got To world 8 i realized I could just run over the pipe and into the floor at the part with the weird colored bowser And I think It may save time.

all of the terminology is mostly known about only within the community or is in summoning salt or bismuth videos about the game. framerule = 0.35 seconds, and you can only lose or gain time between levels in increments of framerules or 0.35 seconds. h8-1 = a framerule save over the standard 8-1 strat that is really inconsistent and requires hitting two koopas noslowdown near the beginning of the level to save time. i'm not sure what frameskip is though

based on subpixel positioning / subspeed you can get a goomba section / walljump that can be a few frames slower than normal, and that's what happened there

After 4-4 there's a black screen that lasts for a while before you go to 5-1. During this the game is loading worlds 5-8 (not sure why, maybe technical limitations). This loading time varies between consoles, so removing it puts everyone at an equal playing field. At 3:50 you can see that Niftski pauses the timer at the black screen and unpaises when the 5-1 transition appears.
The game is originally from the Famicom Disk System, and halfway through (between 4-4 and 5-1) it loads the rest of the game, so the load time is subtracted since for people playing on a real disk system, loading time is different depending on the condition of the disk or the disk system.

Nestopia UE is highly preferred for emulator runs of this game, but even high specs computers can't handle it sometimes. I bought a brand new computer about half a year ago with RTX graphics and other great specs that weren't even required to smoothly run smb1 just for it to stutter constantly when playing the game, so I had to end up sending it back
@@Niftski Oh yeah, my pc can play PS1 games with no problems. But when I play SMB1 especially on the 1-4 or any larva level, when the all the obstacle is playing on the same screen, it looks like the FPS dropped, the music too. But you play the game very smoothly, do you have any advice?
if you want to play on emulator the best route would probably be to try other allowed emulators (threecreepio's MesenRTA is another great option) to see if any are better. you could also tweak with some settings on your monitor or other internal emulator settings or external settings that could be messing with your emulation. other than those things, i really don't know besides either getting a new computer and praying it isn't trash for emulation or switching to original hardware

you are unable to grab the flagpole at the very top due to the stairs being shortened unless you play as luigi, so grabbing middle / bottom is your only option with mario
i looked into fire mario routes, and although the tas is faster with fire with and without L+R, i came to the conclusion that it’s harder than small mario strats for 7:51, so i stuck with small only

What happens if you pass the vine in 8-2? And is there a minus world in this game?
taking the vine is the intended route for this level, if you go past it, it leads to a pipe that will just take you to the vine again
