As a Scotsman I love the way you've got your priorities right! Overhauling a ship, get the bar up and running first and everything else will be a doddle!
I never was a huge fan of boats and ships but after seeing what you have taken on and what it means to restore a classic vessel with your zeal and passion, well I will say you have made me a fan for life. I'll never look at another ship with the same eyes. Thank you and I wish you all the best with this project. I pray you get all of the resources and finances that you need to complete the Aurora and restore her to her days of glory. And I am sure that I am not the only one to say this but I hope you get her to sail under full power of ALL 5 engines.
“Shane… don’t break anything!” 😂😂😂 The expression on his face is priceless. It’s 4.00 o’clock in the morning and I am laughing tears here. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
The landscape surrounding your ship is very familiar to me. I commuted from Sacramento to Stockton taking the Eight Mile Road exit to Hammer Land and March Lane when I worked for Pak'N Save and Safeway. Both stores are no more now.
Grid seems like the kind of dude who’d be easy to judge harshly on first impressions but he’s been interested and engaged and a real gentleman throughout and that’s fantastic
@Aurora Restoration Project - Guys please never stop doing this amazing job. When it is ready one day it would be cool to see you in the Netherlands. Stay very safe and healthy. - Small plumbers? I think you need some denmark kobolds to do the job, haha.
Here in the Netherlands I can’t think of a place she would be able to moor, maybe somewhere in the Waalhaven but it’s a big ship so that would be expensive too but yes I would like to see her one day without going across the Atlantic..
Love the project. You have a great team of dedicated helpers. I know it’s going to take a long time to restore, but can’t wait to see her cruising again.
Always wonderful to see a classic ship avoid the scrap heap! Once I get our of the paycheck to paycheck stage of life (getting close!) would love to help out! More people should do this, there’s a gorgeous 700 footer, the Edward L Ryerson, laid up in the nearby city of Superior, WI. that everyone I know wants to see restored but nobody knows where to start!
You guys are doing a great job and I only wish I lived closer to help out. I was fortunate enough to have sailed on both the Island and Pacific Princess's back in the 70's so I'm familiar with USCG inspections - make sure your renovations will meet up to their requirements before you expend too much effort and spend too much money on a particular project.
I will share more about my plans with the Aurora in future videos. Everything should make more sense when I reveal her most likely route of preservation. In order to take on a project like this a person has to be realistic and educated on just what can and cannot be accomplished. Of course lots of money makes anything more possible.. Thanks for watching..
I don’t feel like this ship will see high sea again. It look almost impossible to patch all these holes and ensure the hull will be sea worthy and safe
@@PB-zb6vr sad but he said he wants to move it with its own propulsion in a previous video- I guess moving it under its own power down a river vs ocean/sea/lake is differrn
Dang this channel is blowing up! Congrats on almost 70k subs already! One of Your first resto videos caught my eye because I recognized the thumbnail from my time fishing on the Delta, whenever I’m fishing that area I always look at the Aurora and wonder who owned it and what they were doing with it, and now I know!!! Keep up the great work!
Yeah I just love the way this is going I can't believe you're going to have a cruise ship sooner or later it's cool as hell but at the end of the video that 3D printer guy went on and on and on I would have liked to see more about the boat and not a model of it anyway good luck with it and God bless
I think it’s all about the love for the ship. The British seem to be working well together on Ship Happens. Many nationalities have worked on Tally Ho. Aurora is getting folks from all over.
I think this is awesome, monologue is fine, if people have withdrawals from the ‘cocaine’ manic fast flashy cuts of mainstream tv that’s their problem to deal with. Wow I thought we’d have to wait a lot longer for a ‘heartbeat’ in your ship, which I expected would be an engine starting, but the new bar actually brings the warmth. Probly be great for your community and morale of your crew. All the tan-colored metal rooms, could grind anybody down.
look at US Military Surplus Sales. you can typically find the old Large Mixers, and potato peelers (all very large industrial for feeding a could hundred troops at a time) and they are cheap, and not many are needed in the commercial industry, so they should be easy to find with few other bidders. all stainless steel. just something to consider
This is a very good episode. Thanks. It's great to see the kitchen be done in essentially one big segment instead of split over 3 or 4 videos. And that bar is cool, though I'm unsure if it's very 60's-styled. It's good to see Grid and Shane get along; I was worried they didn't after the last video. And that 3D model is super cool. Will buying it support the restoration? I think that would be a great combination. Thanks, this episode was good. And for Grid especially: you have a nice day, too. Since you said so.
The first 4 seconds of this video I felt like it was either an espisode intro to Walker texas ranger or returning back from a commercial break in 1994 with some show like Baywatch
I'm going to be visiting nearby in Thornton this May. I'm hoping by presenting a Ship Happens sticker at the gangway, it will let me at least take a walk about the deck. Might even be happy to run a hammer drill or grinder for an hour or so to give one of your crew a break.
Consider a Hotel chain investment partner and convert to mixed use: shopping, tourism, hotel, restaurant, bar, weddings, etc and choose a good location to dock to attract business. It doesn’t have to be completely restored to get it going.
i bought a 5 unit town house i renovating it its overwhelming i couldnt imagine a project this size i like it i want one of my own im looking at buying a 300ft ferry its in better shape than the aurora
This is a fantastic project and you are doing great work! I suppose that the biggest challenge will ultimately be the hull itself. To make her seaworthy again, it must probably be needed to do substantial work in drydock at some point? And just a thought: As this is all about preserving history, have you ever thought about re-christening the ship back to her original name, "Wappen von Hamburg"? After all, "Aurora" apparently is a pretty recent name for her with no particular history to it.
Plumb that sink with cross link polyethylene pipe. It’s compatible with iron and copper plumbing but has a 50 years design life. But properly fitted is virtually indestructible. In U.K. we have PolyPipe Hep2o and JG Guest. I prefer PolyPipe.
I personally think you are completely bonkers taking on this project. Do I want you to fail. Of course not. I wish you every success and hope you achieve your dream for Aurora whatever that might be.
I have watched all the videos. I have some questions: I read you live on the boat. True? Where’s the power come from ? You have a bathroom on there? Where do you pump the waste to? I love the intensity and time for each project but it seems that by the time you get through the list it will be time to treat the rails again! I also like the attitude of just fix it with what you have. I think you need a team of dozens! What is the plan for below the water line? Have you checked the bilge? Having owned it since 2008 it seems crazy that there are parts you have not checked yet! I enjoy seeing the progress in each video. Looking forward to more.

This is a crazy project... And I just have to ask something that has me baffled... How exactly is it you are picking and choosing which jobs to do and in what order? There is so much to do, and here you are doing a tile backsplash? How is that a priority? I am really curious on the logistics here.
Wow, the difference between the stainless steel upper, and the definitely-not stainless steel lower parts of that sink. If there was ever a graphic example of how resilient stainless is ... this is it.
I just came across this project and can't get enough of it. I love everything historic. I'm a California resident and not far from Stockton. Is this open to the public at this point? What is the "pantheon" (sp) project you refer to in your videos? Thanks.
I dont know how the electrical is routed on this ship if it comes off the gen sets of the ship or battery banks but are you running all new wiring from the gensets to the galley or tying into the old wiring? The plumbing alone would be a night mare I guess that is routed from bellow deck from fresh water tanks and the sewer tanks . Are you going to try and save some of the plumbing and wiring of the ship? Or you going to replace all of it ? This restoration would be over whelming to say the least. I dont know how you scrape up the millions to restore it. You have my respect

Well the entire deck of warships is made of griddy tar

What happened to the kitchen project? Is that still happening or ongoing?
Tell Mr Moostashio to put a shirt on.

Perhaps along the side you just need to make a passage and do not put anything there.
Impressive work you are doing!! Is it standard practice to use concrete in boats??
That is quite a task, but I am certain it will look fantastic when it's completed. Unbelievable how neglected she has been allowed to get.
