    I am not a bass angler and don't know if this works, but this jig head is at least 5 years old. You can watch youtube videos from UK with people explaining how to rig it. These guys just renamed it and introduced it as their discovery. I never heard them say anything about where they got the idea.

      @@donpreller484 I love the Hover Rig, but if you want to see a rig spiral down or change direction completely get you a Ozark Rig by Core Tackle. First time I flip a craw on an Ozark Rig by a lay down I watched it spiral down then changed direction twice before a 3 lb bass tore it up.

    I think that Tim from Tactical Bassin summarized this hook rig best: it is a “spiral bait” hook. I have had my most success just letting it fall. It glides and spirals like nothing else when you have the right bait on it. And I also catch fish just popping it off the bottom back to the boat. If you actually want to mid-stroll the bait the traditional Japanese way of rigging with a hook and nail weight is the way to go.

    Awesome video footage Rich! I bought some over the winter as well and can’t wait to use them this season! How deep were you fishing and it looked like you were popping it off the bottom, can you describe your presentation that day? Thanks!

    I've been stuffing tube jig heads in other plastics for years.

  • @MJ_Bass
    @MJ_Bass 9 місяців тому

    It's interesting I bought it thinking it was a mid-strolling type bait and tried it with some shad imitators and the basstrix flash trix, and didn't really like it. For that application I much prefer a regular ball head jig.
    I will have to try it as a neko type bait. I've heard Matt Stefan say he fishes it as somewhat of a tube replacement. Seems like maybe it works better letting it fall all the way to the bottom.

    I feel the original hover rig with a hover hook and the nail weight even works better(the Japanese way). It has much more random darting action than the core tackle hover jig. In other words you will get more trigger bites.

    • @Itz1Adam12
      @Itz1Adam12 9 місяців тому

      You did. But once you rig it, you need to let it fall on slack line in the water to see the fall. I talked with Stefan to double check this. The deal with the fall is that you want the bait to spiral. I've gotten bites where it doesn't, but if you rig it and situate it where it spirals on the fall you'll be very happy with the results. Thanks for the video dude! Love your content! ❤️

    I'm going to say this the Core tackle quote and quote "HOVER RIG" jig is not a Hover Rig, it's more of a Mid Strolling Rig, that thing doesn't even hover at all, it sink down so fast. Sound like you never fish the true "Hover Rig" yet. Do you even know the definition of the word "HOVER" 🤣😂

    • @skidemn
      @skidemn 9 місяців тому

      It sounds like you don’t know how to fish a hover rig. There isn’t a bait on the market that “hovers” without working the bait. That said, I’ve replaced using the Ryugi hover hook and nail weight with this because I didn’t like how the weight would hit the hook and poke out or bulge the bait in odd directions when used in thinner baits. It glides off randomly with most baits I’ve tried, exactly how it should. Flicking the tip of the rod keeps it popping and gliding its way back, which has been amazing for schooling fish chasing bait.

      @@leepao6302 I wasn’t saying Rich didn’t know how to fish a hover rig. I was saying you seem to have unrealistic expectations if you expect it to hover. Even the most neutrally buoyant or floating soft plastic bait will still sink out fairly quickly if you don’t work it, but even then it will do exactly what the rig is designed to do, glide and hunt as it falls.
      That said, almost every bait I’ve tried will have a hunting action when using properly tip action, even something heavily salted, like a Senko. The great thing about this rig is you can use whatever you want on it for your particular situation. I love it over the top of brush with flat baits as they tend to glide much longer distances and get bit well. You can also use little minnow type baits like a Basstrix and drop it into holes in grass cover, and it will have a tighter fall like a tube, but more random. In any case, Rich didn’t name it and the rig does what it is supposed to do, and well.
