- In the heart of downtown WInnipeg is an historic district whose history stretches back 6,000 years ago to a time when The Forks was the gathering place for peoples who made this area a trading center when the pyramids of Eqypt were being built. This Prairie Public Classic feature was first aired in 1991.
I can't believe this video is damn near 30 years old... I frequent The Forks often and love it. This video is one of the better overviews of the history of it that I've found. Thanks for sharing this Prairie Public!

explores and somewhat whitewashes the whites history but the real history is much older than depicted in this video:
"As early as 4000 B.C, long before European explorers arrived here, this was a traditional native peoples' stopping place. First Nations' groups camped in this area, using it as a place to gather provisions and trade among other tribes. The Forks was a rest stop on seasonal migration routes from northern forests to southern plains; and a key transcontinental trade link."
