    Great video. I know what you mean with those solvent boils, I believe it is common with PPG 2021 clear and having that build up on the edge of the panels if you put on the coats too fast. Least what I heard from painters who spray PPG 2021 often.
    I have seen a couple painters who like to put 2 wet coats and then the last coat they add reducer to allow the clear to "flow". I also hear some guys saying that adding reducer can cause the clear to dieback. I am not sure if I believe that entirely.
    What I see some guys in the restoration/custom world do to get that true dead flat finish is start with 800g with an acrylic block and work their way up to 2000 grit, then finish with 3000 on the Trizact. Another trick I learned is in between sandpapers they will guide coat the whole car to refine the previous scratch. Also using the guide coat from the beginning to knock the clear really flat.
    Always learning, anyway, hope all is well Gunman.

    Check to make sure your accelerator pumps in the Carby are working , check your idle jet mixture settings and if it has an automatic choke, make sure it's working properly.
    If the car is stalling when you apply the pedal it's either flooding or starving for fuel.
    Hope that helps.

    As a painter myself we are never quite happy with what we've done alway striving for perfection but to others the job looks amazing . The reflection on the Torana looks near perfect 👍.

    Wow Gunny! Looks awesome! Thank you for the explanation of solvent pop. I finally have an explanation of what happened on the trunk lid on my 71 Malibu. I don't know weber carbs but on most a hesitation when acceleration is often caused by "accelerator pumps" not working. They squirt a little extra gas in when you step on the gas. It could be low fuel level in the bowl too but like I say I don't know webers. Hope you sort it out soon. Happy New Year to you, your family and mates!

    It looks great, everything you have done to that car and the way you have approached it is spot on
    Getting a extra fine orange peel but with more coats is perfect for flat & polish
    Great work 👍👍👍
    I know you’re a busy man but if you can find the time Ive just started a new channel called the humble paint sprayer if you wanted to take a look, I’ve just put a old car I’ve owned for a long time and hopefully will find time to get it restored and painted
    👍👍👍

    Happy New year to you and your family Gunny, I've followed you for years like your straight up approach to things. Regarding your carb, I've probably rebuilt hundreds of carbs in my 60 years, kinda of an expert at them as when I was younger that's all we had🤣. My opinion Start your car and lightly rev the throttle a few times. Then turn the engine off. Take the air cleaner off and open the choke plate. Move the linkage to full throttle as if you were pressing the gas for acceleration. Watch for two streams of fuel coming from the float bowl side of the carb. You may need to repeat the start and rev portion if you have a mechanical fuel pump or an electric fuel pump that is only on during crank and oil pressure. Do this until you see the streams and compare them to each other. Do they both look weak and uneven or is one less than the other. There is the possibility that it is not the accel pump. However form what you describe above that is exactly what it sounds like. The discharge nozzles are very small. About 0.028-0.035 so they can get clogged very easy. Try to see the discharge nozzle streams and get back to me. Also how long have you let it sit after you installed the carb? Modern day gas sucks and contains a lot of water at least here in the U.S it does. If you want my email let me know.

    Most definitely the stall is caused by a lean out condition when u start off. i put a 4 barrel on my straight six, same problem,to much air not enough fuel.Rejetting the carb fixed mine.

  • @alanjones99
    @alanjones99 5 місяців тому +1

    The carby issue will be jetting. Not enough full or way to much. As its flows more air motors need more fuel to go with it. Looking killa 👊👌

    • @joz1751
      @joz1751 5 місяців тому

      wtf is a carburetor ??
      Lol, jks
      if the jetting is right id check your vaccumm source/routing for your carb. a dense air filter may help also if it gasps on initial throttle..

    You’re going to need to change the air correctors, emulsion tubes and main jets in that 38/38 Weber. They can be difficult to set up but really deliver if you get it right.

    Mr Gunman, with the HEI distributor you need resistor plugs and leads. Same as WB six, check for resistance wire to the + on coil, need to remove it for full 12v wire

    Sounds like your carburator is dumping too much fuel. Back off on the spring screws that push on your accelerator pump. If that doesn't help, you may need to go down on your jet size

    Try adjusting the float level in the carbs it sounds like too much fuel is going in and flooding is there a fuel smell under the bonnet?

  • @sinformant
    @sinformant 5 місяців тому +1

    If it chokes out when you stomp on it, it sounds like maybe too much Carb and the accelerator pump is dumping too much fuel at once and choking it

    • @sheel2
      @sheel2 5 місяців тому +1

      Agreed, it can also be too much bore size on the carb at low rpm. You would be losing air velocity. You might be able to tune the throttle plate so that the secondary butterfly opens a bit later.
      Essentially you want to mimic the smaller carb at idle and low RPM, then benefit from the big carb at wide open throttle, high in the rev range.
      The engine probably isn't demanding that volume of air flow until over 2000 rpm. Just like a spray gun, restriction can be your friend when the situation calls for it!

  • @miceinoz1181
    @miceinoz1181 5 місяців тому

    For a vehicle like this I would also put 4 coats of clear, and at least 3 coats of base. I would want to have plenty of capacity to blend out scratches, even down to base so that I do not have to do a repair. Did you use a very hard clear? I use those blue sponge backed 3M discs wet (1500, 2000, 3000) and find them pretty good. I also use the 4000 and 5000 from SIA. Lots of work, but great polishing finish.

    • @TheGunmanChannel

      I used the Quartz liquid glass which is perfect, not too hard but not too soft.

    Lookin nice man. in 15+ years on resto im still sesrching for a better way to polish, i think once u break the ureathane rubbery part of paint as in scuffing it, it kills it. its never the same. An then the swirls an scratches that come back over time, even after yrying multiple drying techniques (1 week, in sunlight/shade etc).. im a big fan of flow coating but its still tricky to get it perfect an costly in materials an time wise..

    • @joz1751
      @joz1751 5 місяців тому

      i use to use the 1500, 2000, 3000, an i think 5. the pads are kinda useless but they only cut if the pad is pretty wet an pastey from the clear, soapy water might help but havent tried. they still leave 'pig tails' eventually, like years laterbit comes back like shrinkage almost
      if u start from 2000 on the pad it flattens off but once polished u can see the peel cos it hasnt 'cut' from using 1500..the 15 dry is good, even the 1200 3m.

    Gday, ive recently out the same carb on my 6 cylinder Cressida, and suffered frkm the same problems as you. You can try to advance the base ignition timing so when the accelerator is stabbed its less likely to stall, also havung a richer idle mixture can help the transition to open throttle. Have you gotnthe fast idle setup? Also make sure there are no vac leaks, cheers

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  5 місяців тому

      I set the timing to 6 degrees, as for the mixture, I can't get to one of the screws without pulling the whole carbie off. I'll have a tinker, hopefully I can get it because once it gets over that hole, she goes hard.

    Don't get me wrong, but when you pretend that you have no clue and go over to a paint shop and see what is going one there you nearly wanna puke. Most have an idea that people either way don't understand and won't know the difference.
