Supertramp were an English rock band formed in London, England in 1969. I had a few of their albums. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Dreamer" "Give A Little Bit", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
Best concert of my life....1977....Paris....fifth row, center. I was barely 18.
It's called Progressive Rock...at least it was in the early to mid-70s.
Really the studio version is produced so well that it must be heard - it's one of THOSE songs that you could sell speakers with!
Roger Hodgson’s prowess on the guitar is so under-appreciated!
the perfect in paris 1979👏👏👏👏👏
Cool to see your reaction! Supertramp was a fantastic band! Such great music!
bloody well right the music rock in roll progressive the best 👏👏👏👏👏
Roger Hodgeson and Rick Davies are one of the best songwriting duos ever.
I highly recommend "School." I can still remember the first time I heard this song in the mid-70's. "School" precedes and blends into "Bloody Well Right" on their Crime of the Century album.
Hey Harri I wanted you to have a chance to see a live Supertramp track! These dudes are badass muthas....lol. I know you have only reacted to a few tracks and I'll promise to bring more your way! Hope all the other patrons and subscribers enjoyed! Peace all!
The "Live in Paris" has always been my favorite album of theirs since my teenage years in 1979
The Entire live album (Paris) is outstanding.
Great play Harri I love super Tramp they have some great songs
Now that was very cool, never did it like that the 4 times I saw them.
Seen them 5 times, and it was different every time. Mr. Davies was great live when the leash was off.
Yes seen this live. Im so bloody old.
My favourite group of all time. While I like a lot of live versions of various bands' songs I have to admit that, because of Supertramp's superb album production values, I much prefer their studio LP versions although this was excellent. Harri, listen to the song again from the Crime of the Century version. The opening keyboard licks by Richard Davies are spine-tingling, the band is so tight and the music is crystal clear. Supertramp is hard to pigeonhole because they used so many instruments - a lot of saxophone, clarinet and harmonica besides amazing keyboards and just the right amount of guitar/bass plus decent drumming. The real specialness of Supertramp, the depth of their lyrics, can get lost because of their top level musicianship.
Got to agree with this. They never really gave a bad performance live, but their production in the studio was always so top notch they're definitely a band I think it's best to hear off the record first and then follow up with live later on if one's interested. Especially for some of the stuff from earlier albums like Crime of the Century, where the studio mix is almost ahead of its time good for the early-mid 70s, and the tech just wasn't quite there for matching that sound on stage as would be at least more true a decade later.
Excellent choice
I was lucky to see this tour in 79
All 4 of their big albums are must listeners
Crisis what crisis
Crime
Even in the quietest moments
Breakfast
Famous Last Words is another great album.
Man, I love the music you react to. I came to see the Pink Floyd, but I’m staying for stuff like this! Rock out!
Geez I loved this band, one of my favourite songs 🎵 is "Give a little bit "
If you haven't heard it yet Harri the studio cut of 'Goodbye Stranger' is marvellous. The BWR track you've reacted to above is from 'Crime of the Century' LP and while it has some great tracks on it the stereo and production values on it are out of this world too.
💜🎹💎🎸🥁🎼 Love it, you’re bloody well right !!
supertramp= super talented!
Oh, Darling and Child of Vision are good, too!
My favorite band in high school. Through a combination of good taste and good parenting, it was my daughter's favorite band in high school also. Saw them in 1983, just before the fission. Saw Hodgson with my (now adult) daughter just a couple of years ago.
@Greybeard Music Man ... another awesome request ... thanks again
Another great one Harri, you can't beat a great live performance
Two suggestions- 'Even in the Quietest Moments', and 'Give a Little Bit'
Throw Give a Little Bit on the list for the hat trick!
Faster-paced than studio version, the harmonies between Roger and Rick not on studio. They are more playful in the singing. There's some nice improvisation. The sax part is very different than the studio one, not better but a welcome change from original. Ending is not the same either. Fantastic. Wish I had been there. They are the best.
Fantastic British group . Really rate them as one of the best. Few of their albums are superb.Great musicians.
Supertramp.all.day.long.
I have loved this song since I heard it decades ago still one of my favs to this day by Supertramp👌☮️❤️
Just a great sound with many good songs. No other group quite like them.
Simply one of the world's best bands.
A music lover since late 60s (I was a little boy then dancing to my parents Neil Diamond songs and the like) - and Supertramp are in my favorite 10 bands and I'm Bloody Well Right!. Please explore further. Enjoy your channel.
Saxophone 🎷 super. Group song
To hear this right you should listen to the album version starting with ( School )which leads into this song
I usually prefer to listen to full-production studio versions of songs, but every so often I find one I enjoy, like Bowie's 'Modern Love' and The Band's 'The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down' from The Last Waltz.
I tend to like their studio versions- they are so wonderfully produced.
Dreamer
Supertramp is criminally underrated!
💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Thanks Harry! Haven't heard it in a long time.
Nice! Crime of the Century is a great album.
Hey Harri! Kudos to your patreon for the recommendation. The entire Crime of the Century LP is well worth reacting to - each of the seven or eight songs is pure diamonds to the ears! Cheers,
Crime of the Century was their best imo. I know most prefer Breakfast in America as their best. Both are amazing albums, but COTC is my favorite.
That was Rick Davies singing. The guitarist Roger Hodgson sings a lot of their songs as well.
Studio version is also amazing
"Jazz Rock" sounds good to me. It's the greatness of rock n' roll music when you can blend genres to make it your own. I read somewhere that Hendricks was bored with playing the music he felt was being demanded by his fans. He wanted to venture into jazz. It is sad that we weren't able to hear what he would have produced blending rock and jazz his way. Of course, there is fusion rock from the like of John Mclaughlin et al. Check him out; he put on a great concert. As always, thank you, sir, for your postings.
Such a great group!!!
Hi! Glad you love Rick Davies’ voice, I agree ❤️ This song was considered “Prog Rock” back in the 70’s however most of their songs off of their 1979 Breakfast in America album are now considered more rock/mainstream. They were on every radio station back then but prior to that you’d need to find an alternative or prog rock station to hear them. Thnx for the reaction!
It's absolutely the "heaviest"
Great review Harri!!
A lot to love in Supertramp's discography. I would suggest listening to studio releases first, they've taken a lot of liberties in this live version, as most artists do; it's cool to see them live, but it doesn't resemble the studio version very much. "School" from Crime of the Century is epic and will blow you away.
Don't forget "School "
It was a great concert. I’ve seen them 3 times. I saw them in Vancouver during this tour. They played a large indoor stadium and it could be rather echo-y in there, but these guys had an excellent sound system and you could hear everything quite clearly, no echoes, no distortion, perfect sound.
very underestimated band. I love them
Rock/Jazz fusion. It's like Steely Dan is Rock, Jazz, Funk fusion.
This tune is more progressive rock than anything else!
Thanks so much for this Greybeard Music Man, it's always great to hear live venues that we used to go to see ! Since I was in college in Macon, I used to catch some great concerts in Atlanta! Thanks so much Harri, I can tell you enjoyed it !
It is definitely my pleasure! I saw them live in '79 in St. Louis was such a great venue!
Yes, jazz-rock is definitely a thing. Miles Davis & Jimi Hendrix helped to invent it.
Exactly. There is “something called jazz-rock”, also known as fusion. I used to work in a record store where there was a section for it.
Love your work Harri! Keep up the great reactions❤️
Greybeard Music Man - brilliant pick sir!!! This version is my favorite. Better than the original for sure. Harri sir, A Bloody Well Reaction as always!!
So glad you enjoyed it my friend. I saw them in '79 St. Louis MO. Crime of the Century came out that year, and Harri had to see a live Supertramp venue. I'll request him to hear the studio cut next month.
@@greybeard2280 I was still living in St Louis in '79, but my bad that I somehow missed that concert. Great band, and love all their tunes.
Studio versions of the Logical Song, and Goodbye Stranger please!
Take The Long Way Home
Dreamer is a great song to react to.
Love your stuff, you know your music mate, just subscribed
Great choice of song. I'm surprised no-ones mention the lag in your response...your a couple of seconds behind
And two more words - ' Larry Carlton' please, my friend, check Larry out. You will love him.
Studio cut from Crime Of The Century ('74) is WAY better, with the intro being better timed and much bluesier.. You gotta remember, concert performances take liberties with established hits, because 98% of the audience knows how the studio recordings should sound and want some embellishment from the musicians to give it a personal feel. PLEASE hear that studio cut and see if I'm right.
I've had the extreme pleasure of seeing "The Tramp" LIVE 4 times. They are one of the most talented, brilliant, sophisticated, interesting awesome groups ever. Only Pink Floyd puts on a better live show.
Sounds different to the studio version. They have let themselves off the leash here Harri. Good
fusion = jazz/rock
Try “ Fool’s Overture”.
Crisis what crisis album great
The guitarist looks so much like Roger. I wonder if they're related?
It is good live but the studio version is Great.
Harri -- LOVE your reactions! Thank you for reacting to some great music. One artist (who hasn't been reacted to by anyone that I can find) is the late Stan Rogers. He was one of the best singer/songwriters of all time -- one who died tragically just as his career was taking off. Here is one of his best "story songs." I'd love to have you react to him and expose his music to another generation... than you! ua-cam.com/video/aZSi__A5w1Q/v-deo.html
Check out School or Cannonball
S U C H A tight B A N D !
Steely Dan invented JazzRock
Me...I don't care anyway!... great lyrics
Yes , jazzy melody
Yeah, I know it was a request, but you owe it to yourself to hear the original. I firmly believe it was much better, and this came out about 5 years prior to this concert, so I'm not sure if that was the original singer ... doesn't sound like it. Good reaction though, decent song version.
`````````it classic rock and rool i say never listen to bands lives unless your there listen to the music from the albam its much better
Well I'm not feeling this song at all
Studio version is much better. This doesn’t even sound like the same song!
Supertramp have done some great stuff. Sorry but you have things arse about face. You have taken DJing to a new lowest level. You don't break into songs to comment, you do it afterwards like you did repeating yourself. And the Video should be the band as the main and you as the PIP. 5/10 only because it was a great song.
Its Democrats sibling, always blaming others for their short comings.
