When I started learning the piano, I had the idea to play the chords with my left hand and the melody with my right hand, separating hands for separate concerns, so to speak. However, I soon realized that playing the chords with my left hand sounded muddy, and I became stuck. I then reduced the chords to the bass notes in the left hand and played the melody in the right. That worked at least. I discovered that a walking bass line is a nice option to get started with the standards of jazz.

I haven’t subscribed yet because I’ve been getting through some medical stuff but as soon as I heal from surgery I will be subscribing! Thank you for helping me finally start to improvise with the 6th diminished! Can’t rate you highly enough.
This is a nice introduction. However, it would deserve many more examples. As you show it, the length of the chords is determined by the length of notes in the melody, as the right hand plays them as one unit. 1.) If the melody is rather slow, how do I get a swinging rhythm below it? 2.) If the note extends the change of the chord, do I change the chord while holding down the pinky? These are just two challenges off the top of my head. I think there would be a lot more details to cover.
Soo. Full disclaimer I'm a beginner and perhaps I'm reaching too high, however my question 😂 for each quarter note of the melody you play the 7 chord of that note. If the melody note is C you play a C7? Is that the idea😂😂😂😂 I love your videos!!!
