    Our planet’s diverse, thriving ecosystems may seem like permanent fixtures, but they’re actually vulnerable to collapse. Jungles can become deserts, and reefs can become lifeless rocks. What makes one ecosystem strong and another weak in the face of change? Kim Preshoff details why the answer, to a large extent, is biodiversity.

    Biodiversity
    _____ecosystem______ diversity
    _____species______ diversity
    _____genetic______ diversity
    Why is the rainforest so biodiverse?
    The genetic variety within species.
    2 examples of interconnection in the rainforest are….
    Liana vines and tree tops, plants providing food for animals that carry their seeds
    Genetic Diversity allows species to cope with _____changes_____. Species that lack genetic diversity are ____more____ vulnerable to fluctuations or changes.
    Keystone species are ____vital____organisms that many other organisms depend on for survival____on earth_____.
    Why is the rainforest more likely to survive change than the ecosystem that corals live in?
    The forest can stay resilient and recover from change but organisms in the coral reefs have dependant relationships with each other
    hope this helped. keep your heads up kings and queens, we are almost out of this.

    Biodiversity is the variety of life on earth, which each individual brings to the ecosystem. Everyone contributes to the environment that each of us benefits from, therefore when one species goes extinct, it has an effect on us all. Every single one of us forms the basis of the ecosystem.

    We need to come together. We should be learning about precious resources and how to ensure that they continue to exist.
    The economy means nothing if the environment isn't being considered. Environment is the real value, economy is the illusion that has always been against nature.

  • @P.Gillett
    @P.Gillett 7 років тому +117

    I'll add a few other reasons:
    Food: Living in an environment with a diversity of species provides people with all kinds of different food. We would get very bored if we could only eat one kind of fruit all the time. And we probably wouldn't be that well nourished.
    Aesthetics: looking at nature and all of the beautiful animals makes peoples lives more enjoyable. Imagine we could only grow one kind of flower in our garden. Life would be boring.
    Medicine: a vast majority of the medicine we use to treat illness and cure disease originates in nature. Don't get confused, synthetic compounds are usually created to mimic naturally occurring compounds. And the vast diversity of animals and plants provides humans with nearly unlimited research tools.
    Time: when we lose a species, we lost something that took millions of years to evolve.
    Add your reasons.

      Our very survival, in the end. We are not a self-sustainng species, most species arent. We need what the earth gives us to survive. If we continue to threaten species, the loop will unravel and our own will be threatened

    • @P.Gillett
      @P.Gillett 2 роки тому +1

      @@sethvanpelt5707 True and as you mention that is true for the survival of other species. Just a very small number of examples, many trees rely on fungus mycelia to transport nutrients. Many animals rely on certain species of plants for food, and plants themselves rely on insects like bees to reproduce.

    • @superresistant8041
      @superresistant8041 2 роки тому

      It's not convincing. There can be much more or much less biodiversity without us noticing any difference for our survival or food/aesthetics/medicine...
      To me it is not demonstrated that we are threatened with less biodiversity or better off with more biodiversity.
      People often are changing the subject by pointing out the danger of "no biodiversity at all" but that's not the point.

    I discovered that some species are depending on one another, and that the loss of a keystone species can have an impact on the dependent species as well. This demonstrates the need of respecting the local wildlife. Biodiversity is the range of life that exists on Earth, and each species contributes to the environment in a unique way. Each of us contributes to the environment from which we all benefit, so when one species disappears, it affects us all. The ecology is built on the foundation of each and every one of us.

Before, watching this video, I perceived the issue of biodiversity, but I didn't know completely that biodiversity influences all the creatures living on earth, and evenly humans!! And, the most impressive part in this video is " Several species and organisms are intricately bound together, so if on species disappears, the ecosystem will not collapse immediately but it will be the beginning of weakening the foundation of the entire system. Moreover, learning that biodiversity is important for humans and all living things on Earth has also made us feel that we must strive for the preservation of biodiversity.

    Every single being has its purpose. Removing one element can cause change but it isn't really applicable to all, it depends with its complexity and density. It also depends on the relationship of a bigger group such as depending on it for survival. In conclusion, one should not be too greedy when "cutting down too many links".

    This video is very informative and entertaining to watch. I learned from this video that our ecosystems are vulnerable to collapse. Organisms need other organisms to live, organisms in biodiversity depend on each other or the species are interconnected that's why when one is removed it can have bad effects on the other organisms. But that's not true in every case, if biodiversity is rich and healthy, that one species gap won't cause it to unravel, the biodiversity will stay resilient and it can recover from change. Biodiversity can be stronger if there are plenty of organisms in it. For us to avoid damaging biodiversity, we should clean and protect our biodiversity. Biodiversity plays a huge role in human survival because it supplies our needs and keeps the planet working and helps the planet flow its necessities to distribute in the ecosystem for the life forms living on it. Humans do not and cannot live in isolation from this web. This video helped me realize that everything or everyone has their purpose. We cannot survive on our own. We still need to depend on other people just like in biodiversity, organisms depend on each other to survive. Artificial selection is the identification by humans of desirable traits in plants and animals, and the steps taken to enhance and perpetuate those traits in future generations. Artificial selection works the same way as natural selection, except that with natural selection it is nature, not human interference, that makes these decisions.

    In this, I learned that Biodiversity is build by ecosystem diversity, species diversity and genetic diversity, the Biodiversity can be more stronger if there is another animal system, with out coral, many sea animals can't survive because some times if a system lost, the net of the system is going to break and lastly, ecosystem diversity, species diversity and genetic diversity together make the biodiversity is very important to the survival in the Earth

    The trees, plants, all kinds of animals of all sizes and all kinds of microbes quite literally form the biological life support system. This biological life support system is an intricate web of biodiversity. Humans do not and cannot live in isolation from this web.
    I saw a program on terraforming Mars where some scientists discussed that to colonise a new planet permanently, we cannot just go there and live in isolation! We need to take our biological life support system with us. And that means we have to terraform the planet and then take all kinds of trees, plants, animals and microbes with us. They are our life support system.
    Right now, we Humans are hurting biodiversity in so many ways without the realisation that it's our life support system.

    This blog help me learn and understand the meaning of biodiversity and its importance. Biodiversity pertains to the variety of life and it is seen in the number of species in an ecosystem. with the help of this blog, l realize that no matter how small the organism is, somehow it has its purpose. Every organism may different from each other in terms of characteristics but they have their one similarities. That is to live and fulfill their own roles and purpose as a part of this world. Nowdays, we, humans, one of the factors that causes their extinction. I realize that we must take an action in order to protect our biodiversity. Now is the time to set things right.

      Biodiversity is very crucial for human survival, everything here on earth are interconnected thats why when one system is damage the other systems are affected, the sad thing here is that humans are the one destroying it.

    Biodiversity is a term used to describe the enormous variety of life on Earth. It can be used more specifically to refer to all of the species in one region or ecosystem. Biodiversity refers to every living thing, including plants, bacteria, animals, and humans.Biodiversity is the variability among living organisms from all sources, including terrestrial, marine, and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems.

    According to our books and to our modular learning kit, biodiversity refers to all the wildlife and plant life that is around us, all over the world. It refers to the plentitude of flora and fauna around the planet earth, microorganisms included. Biodiversity is incredibly essential to the planet, as it is what maintains the balance of ecological systems on the earth. Artificial selection is the intentional breeding of plants or animals. It means the same thing as selective breeding and is an ancient method of genetic engineering. Selective breeding is a technique used when breeding domesticated animals, such as dogs, pigeons or cattle. Your blog is great and you described it well. ❤️❤️👍

    Biodiversity is important in balancing our nature. Diversity among organisms is highly significant to promote symbiotic relationships and to have a balanced interactions in the differemt ecosystem that we lived.

    This video taught me that our ecosystems are vulnerable to collapsing. Because species are interdependent on one another or need one another to survive, when one is removed, it may have negative repercussions on the remaining species. This is true of all living things. That isn't always the case, though; in certain cases, a species gap won't cause the biodiversity to collapse; instead, it will remain resilient and be able to bounce back from change. If there are many different types of species, then biodiversity can be stronger. We should maintain and safeguard our biodiversity in order to prevent damage.
