Have put 13k miles on my 2020 model. Definitely a fun and spirited bike to ride. I love the retro look and the standard control positions, and always has plenty of power. It has a true overdrive 6th gear, which I think is great, others don't like that fact though. It has plenty of power for my needs -- it has much quicker acceleration than Harley Davidson's if you have experience in those bikes and want to compare.
My first bike was a 1973 Z1. Almost killed me when I got on it - so I knew I had to have it. The bike was bulletproof. Best memories on a bike. Sounds like they got the bugs worked out. Kawasaki rules!
I love the fact that you not only mentioned it; but led with the seat height and your inseam measurement. For me, seat height and fuel capacity are two of the most important considerations.
@@MotorcycleMonkey - My inseam (actual measurement) is also 29" and it looks like my feet were in the exact same position as yours when I sat on one at a dealer. Oh great, another bike I have to research and look at in person before I make my decision on what to buy. I'm building up my stable and it's time to add something sporty to my lineup and possibly even retro might be the answer. I started riding in 1973 with my first bike being a 1973 Kawasaki 350 two stroke, I have such fond memories of riding that red beauty and learning how to ride. He had to tell me everything, I knew nothing about motorcycles. I was able to limp it home and before long I was tearing up the streets! I've purchased another 8 bikes since but I'll never forget my first bike.
my first bike (owned not ridden )was a 1969 Kawasaki 500, buddy had a 350, anyway blew that up bought a 1975 500 next, crashed that into a car driven by a drunk, then bought a 1976KZ900...loved it. Now riding a 2018 Harley Davidson Road Glide Ultra..love it, but the years are catching up and my days of riding across the continent are over so put a deposit down on this 2022 retro, same colour, I m 6-3 so hoping I still fit as well as I remember lol.

I bought mine last year and first thing I did was get a custom paint job the same as this model except in plum colour. I then fitted the 4 into 4 exhausts and original style indicators and a few other retro pieces. Everywhere I go it gets attention fooling many that its the original
I'd love to see pictures of the bike. Are you on instagram or facebook? I'll follow and you can dm me a picture if you are willing. Either way, thanks for watching and ride safely.
Appreciate the mention of seat height. I noticed kawa sells a lower seat as an option. I feel like it does not look as good but if I can have my feet firmly planted on the ground (5'11) then I'll take that tradeoff.
I am interested in this bike but you look tall on it at your height and I am 6'4" so I would probably look ridiculous on it. I wonder if that side view camera is distorting the image because you don't tower over it while standing next to it.
Thanks very much! I really enjoyed this bike. My next one is a 2022 Harley Davidson Low Rider S. Should be fun as well. I appreciate you watching and ride safely.
@@MotorcycleMonkey you got it bro! I've been working on my 48 alot. I've noticed several z900rs vids this month Kawi must be sending out some checks!! (I bought a 2019 cafe version a few years ago but March 2022 seems to be a renewal in Z900rs vids :P)
An old term that just means the shift lever always returns to center after being moved up for an upshift or down for a downshift, as opposed to a lever that stays in different positions for different gears.
Thanks Hopeless. I actually called the rep for Kawasaki and confirmed the same thing. I learned something as well. Hope that helped, Michele. Both of you ride safely and thanks for watching.
I was thinking that if I wanted a cowl I could add it.. but on the cafe it’s on there for good. Upright riding more on the rs then the cafe.... That was what I was thinking. Now that I have been riding. I made the right choice. I love the look of my 2022 cafe . Black/silver brown seat❤️
I think the only differences between the cafe and standard model is the handlebar (standard has a wider and higher bar) and the cafe has the front cafe cowel, and the seats are different (cafe seat is lower). Other than that, identical bikes.
That’s what I said lol they actually make a Z900RS café version which is the one that I have. There’s a big difference between the RS and the RS café. Mainly the handlebars
The machine would look so much better with a tail panel under the seat . Manufacturers these days like to built motorcycles with ' floating saddle ' look ; which ruins the appearance in my opinion .
Dang. I usually mention that for folks. I'm 5'10". My inseam is only 29". Short legs and I'm ok on it. On my toes but still doable. Thanks for watching.
You are correct. I find most gloves are bulky because of my short, fat fingers. I felt like I lost control of the controls on the bike but...I now have a pair of gloves that I wear because they're perfect for my hands. I really like these gloves. Here's a short review of them if you care to check it out. ua-cam.com/video/5uuFCFsXBPI/v-deo.html
I remember when that Kawasaki Z1 900 first came out it was the king of the road, replacing that Honda CB 750 as the best bike around. Then a couple years later Honda came out with the Gold Wing. A motorcycle with an automobile engine in it. You could buy a new Gold Wing for $3K when they first came out, now they are like $25K new.
From the digging I've done on this it's anywhere from135mph to 150mph. From what I can tell I'd say it's closer to the top end but I didn't take it that fast. Conflicting information on the top speed. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
In the old days I ran Kawasaki So hard day after day year after Year their bullet proof . Must be Made out of titanium and that Goes for the trans I always use A 90 weight gear oil on the chain Because it penetrats and stays On good never use greese on a Chain because it won't penetrate The rollers on chain.👱⚡
I was really excited about this bike. I love the looks and the specs. Then I got to ride one. WAY TOO JERKY! The throttle control is completely jacked up. There is no smooth transition from no throttle to 1% throttle. Without an ECU remap, this bike is a non-starter for me. Too bad.
Would be good on this bike. I agree. I tend to like to ride without one now if I'm not traveling too far but it sure helps to have one when you need it.
I bought a new Suzuki GS 1000 back in 1979. It was a copy of the old Kawasaki Z1 900. I put 75,000 on the bike before the piston rings gave out. It broke down once and I never had a flat tire. That bike was a pet rock all the way.
I was a KZ1000 man, but I loved GS1000's too. I ran my KZ against a GS in the 1/4 mile. He got me the 1st race, I got him in the second. Fremont Dragstrip 1979. Lots of fun.
If you were to slide down the road your hands wouldn't come off at all well riding without gloves. In fact they would be ground down like cheese in a grater.
True statement. I now have a pair of gloves that I can stand to wear. I feel like I have control without restriction. Thanks for watching and I'll do my best to wear them at all times. If not, feel free to bash me. I think I can take it as long as you don't get too brutal. :)
She doesn't know much about bikes. The host was out of town for the segment. It's what I do...I talk until I'm told to shut up. :) Thanks for watching.
Really, this review is ok but really it is a statement of the bleeding obvious, having owned one for four years now. Not much information that isn't completely obvious to a test rider.
Hey there, I get what you're saying but that's the intention of these reviews. Not for techs and folks who know tons about these bikes already, but just looking for a surface review. I appreciate the feedback and ride safely.
I ride a 2000 Harley Road King Classic. Oldie but a goodie. I love all types/styles of bikes. If nothing else, over the last few years I've learned what I do and don't like about certain bikes. Mostly, I find something to love about all of them. Thanks for watching.
Good looking bike! I like the analog style gauge pods. Unrelated- people need to turn off the liberal media & stop with the fake masks and virtue signaling. Thanks for complying with the government tests. 😪
Am i mistaken but i think it looks like your riding a 250cc....Bike looks small and squat, mabye im wrong but id rather be on a Honda cb 1300.If i want a naked big bore ill take the Honda
That bike is way too tall for you bud. I am an inch taller and I got it lowered 2 inches. This thing is deceptively liter bike like. Not for beginners.
Agreed on both counts but I like it enough that I'd put it in my stable if I had money to do so...That's the issue with short legs like mine. Reviewing Adventure Sports are even higher so it's like I'm in a high chair with wheels. :) Thanks for watching.
This bike's engine comes from the 1995 zx9r ninja with 20+ years of tweaks and milder tune. I have the cafe version and I really enjoy it as a comfortable riding crotch-rocket.
I would agree not for beginners. I have the 2021 RS Café version. It’s a wonderful bike. However if you’re experienced, I am only 5 foot seven and I have no problem with the height. I cannot flat foot the motorcycle but again this is not a problem for me with over 40 years of experience riding
I know!!! I finally found a pair of gloves that I can stand to wear. I felt like the gloves were all too bulky and didn't allow me to have full control of my fingers because I have fat hands. I love the ones I have now.
A motorcycle reviewer riding without gloves and other safety clothing?? No way he can be taken as serious because he himself does not care for himself.
Way overpriced for what you don’t get. No cruise, no ride modes, no quickshifter, you basically pay for the styling. It’s heavy and underpowered by today’s standards. Yamaha has it all over Kawasaki these days.

Nice bike and great review. Thumb up.
Thanks so much!
@@MotorcycleMonkey Anytime. Drop by when have time. :)
Dual throttle control?
Has that rectified the snatchy throttle from the 2018+ models?
No glove riding gives me the shivers. Gear up man
Appreciate the mention of seat height. I noticed kawa sells a lower seat as an option. I feel like it does not look as good but if I can have my feet firmly planted on the ground (5'11) then I'll take that tradeoff.
I agree with you. Short legs can be a challenge for me when I want to ride some of the taller bikes.
I am interested in this bike but you look tall on it at your height and I am 6'4" so I would probably look ridiculous on it. I wonder if that side view camera is distorting the image because you don't tower over it while standing next to it.
Did I miss the horsepower number?
bikes on the news? damn my local news station needs to step tf up
Ha! Dave is the reason I'm on it with the bikes so he gets the credit. Thanks for watching.
What a beauty 😍
I'm a big fan of the Zed900! I almost bought a green one when I sold my KLR! Anyway, great vid!!!
Thanks very much! I really enjoyed this bike. My next one is a 2022 Harley Davidson Low Rider S. Should be fun as well. I appreciate you watching and ride safely.
@@MotorcycleMonkey you got it bro! I've been working on my 48 alot. I put road king suspension on it, upgraded my power commander, Barnett extra plate kevlar clutch, Andrews cams, Vance and Hines short shots exhaust, iridium plugs, 10mm screaming eagle plug wires, new front fairing and headlight, and a belt to chain conversion kit! LoL! I do the same thing with every bike I ever own! I can't stop! It's like a sickness! Thank God my wife is cool! The bike is a monster, lots more done to it too.
@@shaneomac823 You're doing more on your bike than I've ever done on mine. Wow. Send pictures if you can. Love it. And it's a good sickness!!! :)

Now that you've had it for a while, what are your thoughts on the bike? Stoked you got one?
way not protection glows? it is not cool to ride witout protection
I think you mean gloves, and yeah, everyone is constantly trying to tell Clint to wear gloves when he rides, he just doesn't listen :-)
True statement. :)
Clocks could have used a bit larger font, and spread out the markings. It's a very good looking machine.
Looks like a winner!!!
Very cool bike.
It is...Thanks for watching.
Great review!
Thanks very much. I appreciate you watching it. Ride safely.
Agree man. :) Can check my content.
i just joined the Z club!
oh my lord this thing is awesome
trying the vlog thing on my channel too
Awesome!!! Give me a link so I can check it out when you are ready. Thanks for watching and ride safely.
@@MotorcycleMonkey I think you can just click my picture bro
I've noticed several z900rs vids this month Kawi must be sending out some checks!! (I bought a 2019 cafe version a few years ago but March 2022 seems to be a renewal in Z900rs vids :P)
I truly wish I got a check but for me, it's getting to take the bike out and review it. :) Thanks for watching and ride safely.
great review!
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.
Gr8 vid. Ride safe, god bless u.
Thanks so much for watching. Ride safely and God Bless You as well.
No Gloves?
I know. I finally found a pair I like. I'm now wearing them. Thanks for caring and for watching.
What is the "return shift" for trasmission?
An old term that just means the shift lever always returns to center after being moved up for an upshift or down for a downshift, as opposed to a lever that stays in different positions for different gears.
Thanks Hopeless. I actually called the rep for Kawasaki and confirmed the same thing. I learned something as well. Hope that helped, Michele. Both of you ride safely and thanks for watching.
this is a quality motorcycle
the bike is great !
I just bought the cafe style now I’m second guessing. I thinking maybe just rs
Let me know why and what you think if you switch. Thanks for watching.
@@rod1521 Awesome!!! Enjoy the ride and be safe.
I think the only differences between the cafe and standard model is the handlebar (standard has a wider and higher bar) and the cafe has the front cafe cowel, and the seats are different (cafe seat is lower).
Other than that, identical bikes.
How tall are you?
I am subscribing
Thank you very much.
I'm interested in this bike!
If you can get your hands on one at dealer near you let me know what you think. Thanks for watching.
My 2021 z900rs is pleasant to cruise around on, yet very quick. Versatile!
Very nice
Café styled bike ?
That’s what I said lol they actually make a Z900RS café version which is the one that I have. There’s a big difference between the RS and the RS café. Mainly the handlebars
The machine would look so much better with a tail panel under the seat . Manufacturers these days like to built motorcycles with ' floating saddle ' look ; which ruins the appearance in my opinion .
I want one!
Motor vs. Engine: So General Motors and Ford Motor Company have been saying it wrong for over 100 years?
I get crap sometimes for it. I realize it can mean the same thing but just to rib the few folks who've harped on me about it. Thanks for watching.
The motors refers to all aspects of the car and under the bonnet is an engine
@@lukecowell7516 Great information. You're the first person to actually refer to the difference....Thank you.
This is the old school new school Bad Boy BULLY.
That's actually a great description of this bike. Well done.
How tall are ya mate?
Dang. I usually mention that for folks. I'm 5'10". My inseam is only 29". Short legs and I'm ok on it. On my toes but still doable. Thanks for watching.
@@MotorcycleMonkey You did say it. In the beginning.
It’s not a cafe?
Thing is definitely a sleeper
Totally. I agree. Thanks for watching.
That is not a café style bike at all. You should try the RS café and you would definitely see the difference
Ummm…Are you not wearing gloves ?
You are correct. I find most gloves are bulky because of my short, fat fingers. I felt like I lost control of the controls on the bike but...I now have a pair of gloves that I wear because they're perfect for my hands. I really like these gloves. Here's a short review of them if you care to check it out. ua-cam.com/video/5uuFCFsXBPI/v-deo.html
No sport mode on a z900 rs
I remember when that Kawasaki Z1 900 first came out it was the king of the road, replacing that Honda CB 750 as the best bike around. Then a couple years later Honda came out with the Gold Wing. A motorcycle with an automobile engine in it. You could buy a new Gold Wing for $3K when they first came out, now they are like $25K new.
I was just talking about the price of bikes with some friends. I remember when Gold Wings were super inexpensive.
Is it me or it looks green under sunlight ?
I do see a tinge of green in the light.
Watch the same people get upset when you constantly refer to it as an Enginecycle. ;)
Ha! No doubt. I try to make everyone happy. Thanks for watching.
@@MotorcycleMonkey Unintentionally, this'll come across negatively. Good luck with that! Call me cynical.👍😁
Top speed?
From the digging I've done on this it's anywhere from135mph to 150mph. From what I can tell I'd say it's closer to the top end but I didn't take it that fast. Conflicting information on the top speed. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Top speed is electronically limited to 145 mph. I own the café version 2021
Is it a motorbike or an enginebike?
Good point. I'll tell the few complaining to pipe down. :) Thanks for watching.
In the old days I ran Kawasaki
So hard day after day year after
Year their bullet proof . Must be
Made out of titanium and that
Goes for the trans I always use
A 90 weight gear oil on the chain
Because it penetrats and stays
On good never use greese on a
Chain because it won't penetrate
The rollers on chain.👱⚡
got to gat one 😀
nice motorcycle,,you make it look small,,like a 500cc size...
Gloves
I was really excited about this bike. I love the looks and the specs. Then I got to ride one. WAY TOO JERKY! The throttle control is completely jacked up. There is no smooth transition from no throttle to 1% throttle. Without an ECU remap, this bike is a non-starter for me. Too bad.
So get it flashed. Easy.
I'd get a clear fairing. 👍
Stops to tell random lady about the bike. She was quite tolerant of this
She was. Liz is very nice and acts interested. She's a great Lady. I babble on about it either way. Thanks for watching.
Lmao this tv interview is bizarre. This lady does not give an crap and dude is just rattling on.
She doesn't know much about bikes. The host was out of town for the segment. It's what I do...I talk until I'm told to shut up. :) Thanks for watching.
You took it out on the road without all your gear (gloves).
Why would anyone be surprised that a 900cc bike is quick? 😁🤣😂
I really hate racing everyone wants to race me the g force is so hard you feel internal organs moving around
I appreciate the feedback and ride safely.
zed not zee! 😉
Center-stand, heated grips[✓•✓]
QVC bike review 😅
Nice but cost to much
You please the motor vs. engine guys... AND THEN DECIDE TO RIDE WITHOUT GLOVES!
This will be my next bike. The end.
Nice bike but too expensive
908 was cool but now it's 945 unheard of......they sold you a kz 1000 lol
Basically
Ha. Fun bike for sure.
Quick? What are you a Harley rider?
I ride a 2000 Harley Road King Classic. Oldie but a goodie. I love all types/styles of bikes. If nothing else, over the last few years I've learned what I do and don't like about certain bikes. Mostly, I find something to love about all of them. Thanks for watching.
by one and a year after you are a motor mecanic . with all the problems
Have had zero problems with mine. Haven't heard of anyone having problems either.
Kawasaki makes reliable motorcycles.
Good looking bike! I like the analog style gauge pods.
Unrelated- people need to turn off the liberal media & stop with the fake masks and virtue signaling. Thanks for complying with the government tests. 😪
Z'd
Nice bike but why is that mask wearing individual wearing a shirt sporting the Navy SEAL trident at 4:25?
I'll ask him about that. He was in the navy. Thinking maybe a support shirt?
@@MotorcycleMonkey just curious after watching Don Shipley videos where phony SEALS are the target.
Am i mistaken but i think it looks like your riding a 250cc....Bike looks small and squat, mabye im wrong but id rather be on a Honda cb 1300.If i want a naked big bore ill take the Honda
It looks this way because I'm fat.
@Serious Andy: Good to know, so will the Kawasaki dealer lower the bike on request? How was yours lowered?
@@69FOSTER I purchased lowering links from T REX racing and had the dealer lower it for me before I picked the bike up.
Jesus... riding without gloves?
Shirley, you can't be serious...name the movie.
@@MotorcycleMonkey Airplane 🤣
Way overpriced for what you don’t get. No cruise, no ride modes, no quickshifter, you basically pay for the styling. It’s heavy and underpowered by today’s standards. Yamaha has it all over Kawasaki these days.
Yeah. The XSR900 is loaded with technology and the price is not bad either.
