This is a camera that really caught my attention, even during the pandemic it has a relatively low price, high quality, stylish and powerful. But it's still expensive for me...
I have this camera for training purposes and want to buy a directional XLR microphone for it hat will 1. fit in the microphone clasp attached to the handle and 2. Be able to record monologue from a person about 2,5 feet in front of the camera. What microphone do you recommend?
Is there anywhere we can download some sample footage? I'm thinking of upgrading from an XA10, and what to know how much better the 1080p footage really is. :)

I bought the Canon XA40. When recording short clips I can down load it without a problem to my pc, When recording longer clips like 30 minutes or more, I get the message "can't play. Choose something else to play. This item is in a format we don't support. Oxc1010103" The recording plays on the camera itself when I watch it on playback. Why doesn't it download to pc? Please help! PS. I connected camera to pc via USB cable.

What's the HDMI output specs. Internal is 8bit Prosumer? In what context are you claiming Pro Model, as Broadcast companies only accept 10bit these days? And I take it this is yet another new model without C-Log?

I would like to broadcast with OBS and blackmagic HDMI to thunderbolt converter. Please give the instructions for settings for hdmi output terminal. Earlier we used to do this with XA35 but XA 40 is not working any clue ?
The usual reason a signal can't be received or seen is that the output signal from the camera is not compatible with the receiving device. Perhaps double-check that the external device is actually compatible? Once this is confirmed, please ensure that the HDMII output in the menu is selected for HDMI Max resolution. The output signal from HDMI is YCbCr 4:2:2/8-bit, make the external device accept this.
To eliminate any problem with the camera, we suggest a standard HDMI-HDMI connection is made. If the signal is present and an image is seen, this will confirm the issue is either with the connector or the external device.

I just bought an XA40. Love it. Im a professional videographer. I do have a question though.... How many times should i need to turn the focus ring to go from 1.3m to infinity in manual focus mode? When zoomed in tight, it takes me up to 28 turns of the focus ring to go from 1.3m to infinity. Is that normal for this camera?
This will sound like a dumb question but how do you get the media from the camera to the computer?
Hi Paul - does changing the focus ring's responsiveness (in the camera setup menu) work for you?
@@juscapella6649 You buy an SD to USB adapter for your computer and plug the SD card from the Camera into the adapter its like the Nintendo Game cards, Some cameras also just plug right into your PC with a mini HD to USB cable like your phone. I know I am making it sound complicated but its literally as simple as plugging in a SD card reader into your PC USB port and sticking the SD card from the camera into it then you just find it by typing in "this PC" on Windows or find the devices and drivers tab and it will show up next to your local PC hard drive

Use the sd card. You pop out the card. And plug card in. To an adapter. That fits into your computers USB port.

Is there a way to use a laptop as a monitor for the XA40? I can plug the camera into monitors, but I have a situation in which I need to use a laptop to convert from pre-recorded videos to live footage. Even when I connect mini HDMI to HDMI on the laptop, I still can't get the live feed on the laptop.

That all depends on your location and how the light and audio behaves in that location.

This should get you there:
MENU > CAMERA SETUP > RECORDING SETUP > MP4 RESOLUTION > (SELECT OPTION)
You can then choose MP4/35Mbps or 17Mbps in either 50P or 25P.

I have the same question. I like to buy one of the two.
I went with the XA40 and it’s an awesome camcorder. Video quality is excellent and since it shoots in 4K I’m sure it’s a little better than the XA11, but it probably isn’t that noticeable. I couldn’t tell the difference in the videos I found online and the XA11 had great reviews as well if you are looking to save a little money. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. Hope this helps.
Does XA40 have wifi direct?
Hi Swaran - the XA40 doesn't have wireless. The XF605 does offer IP connectivity, including wireless, and you can find out more about it here: www.canon.co.uk/video-cameras/xf605/specifications/
