    Bobby Heenan said Andre hated Iron Sheik because he would rough the enhancement guys up bad by dropping them on their heads and Andre kept warning him to be easy on them but would ignore him. As for Randy Savage, Andre apparently disliked how he treated Elizabeth.

    The reason Andre didn't like Sheik is because some of the jobbers in the New York area were had full time jobs and the made money on the side wrestling. Sheik was told not to be stiff with the talent but he hurt them on purpose anyway. Andre found out and taught him a lesson. If you don't believe me look up Bobby heenan talking about the situation

      @@spudhandle There is some truth to this. Sheiky baby was a body guard for the Shah of Iran. I cant say for sure that he would have beaten Andre in 30 seconds, but Sheiky baby was a loyal professional. He followed the script. He stood in front of Andre like a true professional and gave Andre his body and took the beat down for the fans. If it was a real shoot, Sheik would not try to hip toss Andre or bear hug Andre. That is kayfabe. Sheik could have danced around Andre and chopped him down at the knees just like the Japanese Wrestlers who got fed up with Andre.

      I know Andre couldn't cut a promo wasn't a great athlete and got over only because of his size. He was horrible and boring to watch even going back to the 70s. Not only that but he was so greedy and had so little talent he chose to keep the disease he had instead of having it corrected just so he could make money and die before he was 50. I also don't think he had kids so it was all selfishness.

    They made the rope-stepping thing part of the rivalry/ story arch when they had matches. The idea that it was a dispute, made it a more interesting angle. If he stepped _under,_ that falls apart..

    • @greense65
      @greense65 7 місяців тому

      We hear a lot of these stories about Andre "hating" Studd, and in the quest for some reason why, the top-rope stepping comes up a lot. I'm skeptical:
      1. As you point out, this was a part of the story--an element of drawing heat for Studd in a rivalry of big men. Andre understood the business, and this rope stepping and Studd's claims to be "the real giant" drew crowds to their matches.
      2. Andre had a prickly personality, and if he was not particularly warm to Studd, maybe others exaggerated this to "hated Studd".
      Bundy said there was nothing to these rumors.

    Andre hated The Iron Sheik because 'Sheik' used to take liberties and even sometimes hurt local wrestlers that were brought in for TV squash matches. Andre was truly one of the boys and was VERY offended that Sheik would behave in that manner. So, Andre decided to personally put some manners on him by beating the living SHIT out of The Sheik in a match at (I believe) the Meadowlands. Watch that match. Andre TORTURED him!

His opponent would back down because they couldn't even reach his hand. I never saw Studd do this to Andre. I speculate it was because Studd's arm reach was greater than Andre's. Maeda, a Karl Gotch trained shooter, gave him all the smoke and kicked his legs out from under him and while Andre was lying helpless on his back was going to cripple him by breaking a limb...or two when Kantaro Hoshino one of the few people Maeda would listen too interceded and prevented him from seriously injuring Andre further

    First time I’ve heard of this. Gotta love old wrestlers stories which bears little resemblance to the truth. And Jake Robert and Ax are near the top of the list. No other wrestler has ever even hinted that Studd got beaten up by Andre and I doubt he could based on Andre’s physical deterioration by the mid 80s. Bundy stated that Studd kissed Andre’s ass and Don Muraco (who is always a straight shooter and was there in the locker room the whole time) said it was news to him that Andre didn’t like Studd.
    If Andre hated Studd that much then there is no way he would’ve agreed to let Studd cut his hair for an angle. And Studd never stopped entering over the top rope during his entire WWF run. You figure he would’ve stopped if Andre gave him a beat down over it. Andre was in no condition to beat on anybody, he could barely keep his balance by 1985. He backed down from a shoot fight in the ring with a Japanese wrestler who was literally half his size in the mid 80’s. And there’s the infamous confrontation with Bad News Brown where Andre also backed down.

    Depending on when the heat between the two started, the ropes thing seems kind of childish. Studd is a heel; he should be stepping over the top rope as a big middle finger to babyface Andre. That logic still works with the dynamics switched between them; babyface Studd is sticking it to heel-Andre. Now I don't think it's a good idea to insult Andre by claiming that you're going to replace him as the one true Giant. I'm no doctor, but if the Lymphoma hadn't ended his life the growth hormones would have done the trick.
