Albert Ledsma and D.J.Streetsweepa...As for fiberglass pools that crack...we have experienced this from other brands unfortunately. This is one of the reasons we decided to begin manufacturing ourselves...in essence we wanted to produce the pool shell we've always wanted to install. We are a fiberglass pool manufacturer which had years of installation experience BEFORE we began making pools. We design them specifically to be long lasting fun for families, and to provide fast and efficient installation by the installer. We also back them up with a structural warranty and a surface warranty. I'll close with this...if you're happy with the pool currently in your backyard, then all is good! Enjoy the summer with family and friends.
You know the crazy thing, if someone googles this topic, they can find answers like 5000, 9000... this video is amazingly important to understanding the real cost.
Thanks for watching Sights and Sounds! You are SOOOO right. It's unfortunate that prices like that are published without any other supporting information. In addition, many of those shells are the lowest quality (materials, craftsmanship, etc.) and could result in significant frustration and heartache for the homeowner down the road.
I wish you make a video showing several different finished projects (pool size, location, time, etc) and provide the cost. Saying a base cost is anywhere from 20 to 45 thousand is not very useful. Imagine planning to buy a "base" Honda Civic and a dealer tells you "it depends" or anywhere from 20 to 45 thousand.
Hi again Jamie! We hear ya! However, the car analogy doesn't quite work in this situation. A better analogy would be building a home. The "it depends" takes into account all the decisions during the design/build process of a home...each of which will have an impact on the final cost. I.E. A house at 2,000 sq ft has a starting price of $___. But the final price depends on flooring material choice, cabinet style, tile vs other for showers, paint vs wallpaper, etc., etc., etc. Hopefully that helps better explain the "it depends"....As for the lack of examples...YOU'RE RIGHT! But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it, I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already when I first saw her. Besides, I am quiet happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wants to live some other life without me in it, so I said, okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness. My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally can't take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. What are some good resources to help design everything I need to fit in my yard and get in a small pool?
This was really helpful contrary to most of the comments. Lots of good things to consider. Maybe this won’t get me the best idea of what the cost would be for what I’m envisioning, this goes over a lot of the costs people don’t consider.
Thank you Jordan Baker. Glad we could help! Thanks for watching! You may find even more answers with our other videos...we created a series called Two Minutes in the Pool, where we tackle one question at a time in a fun little format. Check it out.
Pool contractors are sales people, they organize subs, they generally don’t do anything other than file for permits. They gotta eat so they need to make a profit on managing those subs.
There should be a guide somewhere that can break it down like: Pool size, square ft for pavers, concrete, historical cost of materials in your area...blah blah blah. its tedious but it can definitely be done. When you schedule an estimate, all that person is doing is sizing up your place and giving you figures based on what he has observed and the numbers he has on his database. Some kid with basic coding skills is gonna do this one day, its an easy algorithm, but for now scheduling a one on one with a pool company is just a foot in the door technique and its not gonna change.
Living in Florida and having two different cement companies within 10 miles of my home without a fence yet I was expecting $60,000. This was my first search I didn’t know if $60,000 was reasonable. I think I got my answer.

What if I already own a nice average size pool in Phoenix, AZ. But all I want to do is to 1) get rid of that glamorous curvy shape and make it rectangular 2) make it 15 feet longer 3) make it 2-3 feet deeper. How does each step differentiates in cost comparing to building it from scratch?
You have to rip out the old pool and the patio around it pay for the pool and broken up patio to be disposed of then reexcavate and back fill replumb the pool and bring it up to the new pool code put a new patio in . So if the new pool cost say 40k for a virgin yard add 5 to 10k for the removal of the old one and probably have to reapply for a pool permit . It's expensive that's why alot of people just fill in a broken pool instead of fixing or digging out and replacing a pool .
When you take into consideration the amount of labor and materials that go into a concrete pool vs fiberglass it makes absolutely no sense why they would cost the same.
I just buy above ground 22'x52" pools for about 400 when on sale. So I have had 3 since living in my home the last 10yrs. That is roughly around 1200 for 3 pools. I'm still ahead!
My condo is thinking about putting in a new concrete pool for $239,000, which includes concrete patio around pool. Pool size estimates 15 feet long x 10 feet. The pool could be 20 feet long. Its only about 3 feet in the low end to about 9 feet in yje dark end. It includes new pump, skimmers. Inlet, auto water leveling, pool signage, piping and re land scaping
Sounds like quite a project! Hard to weigh in on the price with an opinion without knowing what all is involved (demo, bathrooms, shade structures, etc.)
My wife and I are looking to begin construction on our home this year and I just received a quote for a pool installation, and when it was all said and done - their quote was between $60,000 to $80,000. So needless to say, we are not going with a pool during construction. Gonna have to wait a few years for that want.
Understandable. Hope the home construction process goes smoothly for you and your wife. When you're ready for a pool please feel free to use our content as a resource to have all your questions answered.
Florida and other places where it's warm year round has different commodity/demand statistics is all he's saying. It's like buying a convertible in warm weather v winter or in this example in Florida or driving north when it's cold in order to score a noticeable price difference. Florida on the other hand has the extra expenses of the shelter... so it's all relative and each type/material and lot carry individual challenges to be considered. I've had two friends in different areas of Maryland (one fiberglass the other highest tier hand crafted) and both popped up repeatedly. But once those issues were figured out, they have had no other issues and are their favorite "room" of the houses. *Maryland however uses aerial imagery to tax property higher that has more hardscape and less green/grass space.
In Loudoun va if you use the elephant cover, do you need same fence? Our neighbors on one side have a fence and we are looking to add pool to that side of yard for aesthetic reasons. But, I'm also curious if their fence (friends of ours and new addition to their yard) can be used in conjunction with our design to avoid "competitive" design? We aren't interested in adding a fence to the perimeter of our lot. Looking more for a pond pool type... don't want to take up whole yard, ease as we get older and being a swimmer before I could walk, with a husband who was a lifeguard and EMT we are considering hazards that are less known to many. Thanks a bunch. You have helped me narrow down what choices are best for us and if we ever move help increase and not deter value. Much appreciated!
Typically pool installation projects are cheaper in the off-season. Builders are willing to knock a few bucks off in order to keep the calendar full year-round. Good luck with your project.

Companies will charge you based on how much your properties is worth. So a guy that has a 500k home will be charged 60k for a pool while a guy with a 150k home value will pay 20k for the same pool.
Why are pool companies completely ripping people off with pool price now. Just two years ago you could build a nice small 10-12k gallon pool with jacuzzi, patio and lanai for 50-60k.. now just to even talk with a pool place it’s basic pool starting cost is 60-70k with nothing else. Concrete hasn’t changed that drastically. I know people are going to comment oh that was two years ago.. I could understand if it’s been 10-15 years cost would be way different. Florida location
How do I estimate how many cubic yards of concrete I need for a swimming pool? I understand how to convert square feet to cubic yards but I am confused with the math behind the construction of a swimming pool. If someone could provide me with the formula. That would help me a lot. Another way I ask my question is as follows. For example, a pool is 45 feet in length, 15 feet in width and the concrete is 0.6 inches in depth. The pool’s shallow end is 4 feet, and the deep end gradually declines to 12 feet deep. (Ignore the steps and possible ledges in the pool, i got that figured out). Thank you to anyone that responds.
Is there a standard of what the size of a pool should be in relation to the size of the lot? What I mean is if you have a 7500sqft lot @ 150 x 50, what is the maximum size the pool should be? In* other words, I wouldn’t be able to get a pool that’s 2000sqft on a 7500sqft lot
Hi 90daystochange! There really isn't a guide for that specifically. Often the pool size is determined by owner preference, landscape design and setbacks (which vary by locale). Here's an article we have that helps folks decide what size pool they should have installed. bit.ly/2AVW2Rk
I wanna see the breakdown of what makes them $39K baseline. Concrete and 4 dudes working for $20-25K an hour and maybe $2K in rebar...WTF? How does it get to 40K plus. What's your cost?
most of that is the concrete, and the cost of the pool itself.! And labor/equipment is a lot tbh. Theres 6 guys working at least a week if theyre good from start to finish usually, so 40 hours x 6 men equals 240 man hours, nd at $18.50 an hour then thats $4440............ plus the heavy equipment and fuel for them and the truck to get it there to build it! I got a quote on a 12x24 and it was $23k..........just the pool shell was $8900 and then labor and fuel/equipment/concrete stuff is EASILY $11k for them. So theyre doing it for 3k profit AT MOST
I want a 14 x 28 fiberglass Rectangle Pool 8ft deep end with a diving board, basic water slide, and a small basketball hoop. How much do you think it would cost. With one basic entrance and 2 side ladders. With basic concrete and not too large probably smaller than the one in The Picture
so, take out a second mortgage? let's remember : these pool projects are done in 5 to 7 days... I fail to see where $40,000 could be consumed on a "base model" give me a break!
I called 3 companies today, for a 15x39 it was between 30 and 42k. Pending 2hich pool manufacturer you got and all were installed with 4 feet of concrete.
@@RiverPools 2 of the companies used Latham pools and I don't remember the 3rd. I tried to find the huge pool distributor off the interstate in Tennessee. I just couldn't remember if it was off I65 or I40.
Square cubic standard materials standard shapes will cost you $21 so 10 ft by 10 ft by 4 feet deep that’s will cost $10k any above that will be company profit that you can negotiate
Not true. Take your figure times by three or four here in Southern California. Same price for off season. I am taking about concrete pools. A simple medium size pool is about $100,000 here. Had five contractors come out to give me an estimate and they all were $95,000 to 110,000 and that was only for a six foot deep pool, pump, stone around the pool and coping. Patio and landscaping was extra. Most pools here are concrete. Salt water system is a bit more expensive. You also have to have a 5 foot outward self locking gates and the whole backyard has to have a 6 foot fence surrounding the whole yard. A pool has a ton of code requirements dealing with the plumbing and electric and child safety even if you have no children or your neighbors have no kids.. I was shocked on the price. I was figuring around $50,000 to 60,000 for a pool.

River Pools I appreciate your reply, however it is false that there isn’t a certified dealer in ohio. Dreamscapes is who your company referred us to...we think their prices are a bit high still.
So sorry Holly. You are correct. Dreamscapes is one of our certified dealers. I'm working remotely today and did a quick scan of the list and overlooked them. As for pricing we leave that to the discretion of our dealers as material, equipment and labor costs can vary by region.
I had a question about pool blowers do you guys use some math formula to know we're and how there going to blow I have pool were it's perfect and some were there useless
If the proper materials are used this should never be a problem. The industry has advanced significantly over the years and River Pools and Spas, in particular, goes to great lengths to provide superior quality pools and peace of mind to the homeowner.
How do you know when to walk away from a particular company or trade person as a customer, ask them how much? and the answer is "it depends", just walk away.
It's not a pizza hut . It's construction work . Do you know the depth of the water table on your lot ? How about soil compaosition ? Do you know if there's underground utilities were you want to put a pool in ? How expensive is a permit for the pool how long does the application process take ? Is your lot level ? Does it need a retainer wall built ? So it's not like calling in an order for a Hawaiian pizza and breadsticks .

This video was so helpful and answered every single question I could have possibly had, and quick thank you sir
I live in California. I bought my 2nd house and doesnt have a pool. My first home I do have a pool. But now I'm looking to install a pool on my 2nd home.
What is your point, other than bragging that u have 2 houses in California that is going to be going down in value over the next 10years 🤣

AMERICA! 🇺🇸
Can you send me the link to one of these pools please
We actually speed up in the winter. Because everyone wants one before the good old Australian summer comes.
This guy is so calming I feel as though this guy should be my therapist

That is quite expensive. 60,000. Will buy quite am elaborate pool in California
You can also purchase an above ground pool for next to nothing.
Went though the same experience, ended up pulling a permit as an owner builder and hiring subs myself for half the cost.
Problem in Miami is that there is no off season. We go to the beach on Christmas
Gotta admit...we might be a little peanut butter and jealous over that one 😐Christmas in Virginia could be 80 and sunny orrrrrr 19 and snowing.
I was told by the pool builder if I wait for off season he would knock off a few dollars.
Typically pool installation projects are cheaper in the off-season. Builders are willing to knock a few bucks off in order to keep the calendar full year-round. Good luck with your project.
We are considering putting a pool in our backyard,in ground
You'll love it! 🤠

North east pa you can get an amazing pool installed for 15000 to 20000 with great perks light led multi color lighting.
My parents are from North East! My mom is now 86 but she was the Grape Queen in 1950!
Companies will charge you based on how much your properties is worth. So a guy that has a 500k home will be charged 60k for a pool while a guy with a 150k home value will pay 20k for the same pool.
why?
Boga hahahaha
they figure you got it living in a huge house
I wish that was true.
I feel like this is so true! The price always doubles when they show up for the estimate🙄
Is it really necessary to have so much concrete decking around a pool? Seems that really eats into the cost too
Best option is to act as your own general contractor, save 30-50%
Ugh I hate how pools are so expensive! I have a HUGEEEEE backyard, but we can’t get a pool because pools are too expensive!
By an above ground Intex from walmart they are under $2000
I do everything myself one man construction crew whatever i lack in knowledge i make up in persistence.
Is this with a pool cage or without ?
Not anymore. Our vinyl pool is super expensive. Prices have shot up!
Hi, have try building a pool using waterproofing paint only instead of tiles? Thanks
We would not recommend paint on any type of pool. It simply won't last nor look as nice as tile. Great question!
Engineering, Plumbing, Filtration system, Permits, Excavation, tiling or surfaces
most of that is the concrete, and the cost of the pool itself.!

Do you do West Virginia near the Maryland border? Also do you do lap pools?
so, take out a second mortgage? let's remember : these pool projects are done in 5 to 7 days... I fail to see where $40,000 could be consumed on a "base model" give me a break!
Pools take about 6-10 weeks to complete
On 30k of material and Pools will take at least 6weeks likely longer concrete Pools about 2 months depending on your area
I paid $25000 down in February on a $70,000 quote. It's the 4th of July and the pool still isn't finished
Will never have one . But was intresting to hear
When u say 20K to 45K is that just the pool and lining or filtration and all the of the pool equipment included?
All contractors are thieves
thats everything totally done
I live in California. What would an average cost me?
I called 3 companies today, for a 15x39 it was between 30 and 42k. Pending 2hich pool manufacturer you got and all were installed with 4 feet of concrete.
What type of pools did you receive quotes on?
@@RiverPools 2 of the companies used Latham pools and I don't remember the 3rd. I tried to find the huge pool distributor off the interstate in Tennessee. I just couldn't remember if it was off I65 or I40.
Square cubic standard materials standard shapes will cost you $21 so 10 ft by 10 ft by 4 feet deep that’s will cost $10k any above that will be company profit that you can negotiate
Search That’s the material, but then you have labor.
He blinked 54 times.

Dude you my friend are a savage👏😓

That’s just sad that u actually counted that

Florida pools are not cheap, I was quoted $50,000.
I paid that here in Houston area in 2018.
We got a 40x30, mini pebble. 4 lights, rock slide, jacuzzi hot tub, a massive concrete patio, 2 phase pumps.
We love it
With Covid 19, I’ll be all unground and above ground pool prices have skyrocketed. Still, I’d like to have on in my Las Vegas, NV backyard. Perfect lot with walls and patio ready. Anyone have leads on a dealer here?

We want to install the pool ourselves. Who can you recommend to us in Lancaster ohio. You make it seem like pool installers are so willing to piece out the work. I have not found that to be true. We have a budget of 35,000 and that isn’t chump change, no one wants to work with us. We thought we were going to get river pools to work with us but that also has not been the case. 🤷🏼♀️
Hi Holly! Thanks for watching. Unfortunately we don't have a certified dealer in Ohio just yet. But in cases like these we encourage folks to request our brand from their local pool installers. That helps us get connected with more communities and serve more families.

How do you know when to walk away from a particular company or trade person as a customer, ask them how much? and the answer is "it depends", just walk away.
Mark depends is a good answer. I Been working on swimming pools for 10 year's
Not one picture of an install and what it cost. So basically we learned absolutely nothing.
