Cozzi are you a 3d generalist? I'm in 2nd year at uni doing VFX I'm not quite sure what path to take. Because there are quite a few.
Nah im working as a FX TD with houdini doing all kids of simulations. If you like math+physics+Vfx its a great path to take! Animators, compositors and FX TDs are always in demand so id recomend one of those :)

Hey! absolutely, i didnt study vfx and alot of people i work with have different kinds of backgrounds be it engeneering or sience or just directly out of highschool. But ofcours there is also those that did study vfx and got in that way. Just have a cool reel and be nice :D

Dam this is so dope! to see someone go from editing call of duty montages, to now working on top A-list films is eye opening. Do you work for industrial lights and magic or a different studio ? because I know that they worked on player one and jurrasic world fallen kingdom.

that crazy, crangrats man. What uni did you study at and for how long? also for your intro to houdini course, would i just need the apprentice version. Right now I dont have the setup to do anything 3d related but when i do get a decent setup im definitely going to get into houdini as iv heard that its the tool every studio uses for all physics and simulation stuff, so im guessing would be something good to have under my belt.
I didnt really study vfx, started to work straight after high school. Houdini is deffently sought after for most studios these days so its absolutely good to know! For my cours you only need the free apprentice version, yes :)

Hey Cozzi your work is impressive, just a question, the rain sliding from the raptor skin is just rendered as particles or some specular shader with vop/vex pointcloud iteration?

It is renderd as meshed particles for all the fluids, and then we also created texture maps from the sliding rain on the dino. These maps where created using point clouds in vex indeed, and then baked out as textures with mantra.
The textures would then drive a few Aovs or render passes for stuff like specular and a color map for some extra tweaking in comp.
Same goes for the roof, there are multiple maps driving the textures of the roof rather then actual geometry (had lots of water geo at first but the director and sup wanted to tone it down so we went manly with maps and textures instead).
